Will of John A’Dene

of Harrietsham, Kent

Item: to William Turbet and Marion his wife my daughter £20.
The rest of my estate to Joan my wife and Nicholas Wilmot.

Witnesses: Thomas Tassell, Thomas Fren...., Henry Mynot, Vicar and Alys Spencer

Richard At Wode, Laurence Baker of Hollingbourne, William Symon, John Stede and Robert Hadd of Harrietsham, Nicholas Elston and John Elston to be my feofees and overseers.
All of my lands in Harrietsham, Lenham and Hollingbourne.

My feoffees shall suffer Nicholas Wilmot and Agnes his wife to have and occupy a piece of land called Yimpton, Cant Woode, Rede Hamm and Hame Grove during the term of Joanna, my wife’s life and a year and a day after her decease the land shall go to William Turbot and his wife Marion and the heirs lawfully begotten off their bodies. If they be without heirs then to the right heirs of John A’Dene.

Nicholas Wilmot and his wife Agnes to have all my other lands in Harrietsham, Lenham and Hollingbourne. After their decease the lands called Baldwin’s croft, Colyn’s croft and Alys’s croft to Robert Wilmote the son of Nicholas and Agnes and his heirs lawfully begotten.

All my other lands to go to John A’Dene alias Wilmote and his heirs lawfully begotten.

If it happen that neither of the two sons of Nicholas have heirs lawfully begotten then all my lands to be divided between Agnes and Elizabeth the two daughters of Nicholas and Agnes Wilmote.

I will that Robert Wilmote pay after the decease of Nicholas and Agnes Wilmote 5 marks to Agnes Wilmote.
Also I will that he pay Johan Turbot 6 shillings and 8 pence.
John A’Dene alias Wilmote after the death of Nicholas and Agnes to pay to Agnes Turbot 6 shillings and 8 pence.
He also to pay Elizabeth Wilmote 5 marks after the death of Nicholas and Agnes

Nicholas and Agnes to pay my wife Johane 26 shillings and 8 pence yearly.
My wife to have the East chamber next to the hall door during her widowhood.
Nicholas and Agnes also to keep for her a cow, a hog and 6 hens and a cock, fore and food during her widowhood.

Johane and Nicholas shall at my burying have 6 priests, at my months mind 7 priests and at my years mind 3 priests and for 5 years after my decease, to say prayers for my soul, my fader’s and moder’s souls and for all christian souls.
