In the name of God Amen the sixte daie of Aprill in the yeare of our Lord God one thowsand Five hundreth ninetie and eighte and in the Fourtith yeare of the Reigne of our Sovraigne Ladie Elisabeth by the grace of God of England France and Ireland, Queene, defender of the Faithe &c.
I Michaell Alexander of the parishe of St. Peter in the towne and porte of Sandwch in the Cowntie of Kente chandler being in good and perfecte remembrannce thanks bee geven unto Allmightie God do ordeine and make this my laste will and testamente in manner and forme followinge:
First I do yealde my soule into the handes of Allmightie God my creator with an assured confidence after this life to enioy his everlasting kingdome in heaven by and through the mediacon death and passion of Jesus Christe my mercifull reedeemer and my body to be buried in the southside of St. Peters church yard neere unto my brother Thomas Crispe

Item I do geve and bequeath unto my eldest sonne Sarles Alexander my howse wherein I do nowe dwell scituate in the Fishe markett in Sandwich afforesaid with the appurten[a]nces thereunto beelonginge to him and to his heires for ever when he shall accomplishe the age of Fower and twentie yeares allwayes provided that he pay unto my wife three poundes a yeare quarterlie out of the same howse during hir life

Item I do geve and bequeath to my second sonne Michaell Alexander my howse in St. Maries parishe in Sandwch afforesaid wherein Jacobbe Mahewe doth nowe dwell with the appurtennces thereunto belonginge to him and to his heires for ever when he shall accomplishe the age of Fower and twentie yeares allwayes provided that he pay unto my wife Fortie shillinges a yeare quarterlie out of the same howse during hir life

Item I do geve and bequeath to my youngest sonne John Alexander Fortie poundes in mony to bee paied unto him by my executor when he shall accomplishe the age of Fower and twentie yeares
And allso I do geve and bequeath unto my daughter Katerine Alexander twentie powndes in monie to be paid unto her my my executrix when she shall accomplishe the age of sixteene yeares

And further my will and meaninge is that if it shall happen that if any of my said sonnes doe die before they shall accomplishe their said sevrall ages of of Fower and twentie yeares that then the porcon or porcons of him or them so deceased shall remaine unto the survivor or survivors of them
And if it shall so happen that all my said sonnes do die before they shall accomplishe their said sevrall ages of Fower and twentie yeares Then my will is that all their said porcons shall remaine unto my daughter Caterine Alexander and to his heires for ever
And further my said will and meaninge is that if my said daughter Caterine do die before she shall accomplishe hir said age of sixteene yeares that then hir porcon shall remayne soly to my sonne John Alexander

Item I do geve and bequeath to my Brother John Alexander two dubletts, two pr of breeches, ij pr of wetherstocks and my best cloake to bee geven and delivred unto him by my executrixe within one moneth next after my decease

And further I will that all my legacies being paid and my funerall p'formed all the rest of my goodes whatsoevr unbequeathed I do geve solie to Jane Alexander my wife
And I Comit unto her educacon and bringing upp of all my children and the better for to maineteine that charge my will is that she shall receave all the rentes and proffitts of both my howses during the nonage of my children Allwayes provided that she shall from time to time maineteine and keepe both my said howses sufficientlie repaired And so leave then at the time when she shall surrender them unto my children

And further I do will and devise that when it shall please God that my said wife is determined to marie againe that then she shall procure two sufficiente men to bee bound unto my overseers for the trewe answeringe of my children their porcons at their sevrall ages unto them limited

And for the better execucon of the premisses I do ordeine and make Jane Alexander my wife my sole executrix of this my last will and testamente
and Richard Hawker and Peter Hawker my overseers of the same

Notes:
13th April 1598, was buried Mychaell Allaxanda, howsholder, at St. Peter, Sandwich, Kent.
Michael Alexander married Jane Hawker on 16th October 1592 at SS Cosmos & Damian, Challock, Kent.
Jane Hawker (and brothers Richard, Peter, Henry & Alexander; and Sisters Bennet & Mary) were all baptised at Challock 1560-72, children of Alexander Hawker & Jane (nee Searles), who married 26th July 1546 at SS Gregory & Martin, Wye, Kent;
Michael & Jane Alexander's children (all baptised at St. Peter, Sandwich): 18 Nov 1593 Searles; 6 Jul 1595 Katheryn, 13 Feb 1596 Mycahell & John (same date). Son John Allaxandar was buried at Sandwich on 21st July 1598.
James Fulcombe, Butcher of Hythe, married Jane Alexander, Widow, at St. Peter, Sandwich on 30th April 1600.
Son Searles Alexander, mercer, married Ann Fulcomb, virgin, both of Hithe, Kent on 4 May 1615 at St. Mary the Virgin, Woodnesborough, Kent, by speciall lycense.
Daughter Caterine Alexander married James Stiles at St. Leonard, Hythe, Kent, on 16th June 1617.
