In the name of God Amen
I Thomas Allay otherwise Cooke of Cranbrooke in the County of Kent Yeoman being weak of Body but
of sound and perfect mind Memory and Understanding, praised be God therefore, do make and publish
this my Last Will and Testament in Writing in manner and forme following (that is to say)
First and Principally I recomend my Soul unto the Hands of Almighty God my Creator and my Body I
commit to the Earth to be decently and frugally buried at the discretion of my Executors
herein after named hoping thro� the merits of ... redeemer Jesus Christ to be made partaker .... happiness
And as touching the Worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me I give and dispose of the same
in manner and form following (that is to say)
I give and devise all that my Messuage or Tenement with the Lands Hereditaments Rents .... and Appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or appertaining commonly called or known by the name of Pattenden situate lying and being in the several parishes of Cranbrooke? and Goudhurst in the said County of Kent ..... there Containing by Estimation sixteen acres more or less and now in my own Occupation unto my three daughters Anne the Wife of John Jarvis of Goudhurst? Hannah Allay and Elizabeth Allay otherwise Cooke and to their heirs and assigns for ever equally to be divided between them share and share alike to take as Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants
I also give and bequeath unto my said three daughters all and singular my household Goods Stock Husbandry Tackling Money and Securities for Money and all other my Goods Chattels Rights and Credits whatsoever and wheresoever after payment of my just Debts Funeral Expences and the Probate of this my Will equally to be divided between them share and share alike
Except only a Guinea a piece which I give to my Executors as a small acknowledgement for their trouble over and above all their
reasonable Charges and Expences
and do hereby constitute and appoint my Friends Mr. John Hammond of Goudhurst and Mr. Thomas Simmons of Stapleherst
joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty third day of August one thousand
seven hundred and sixty nine

the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses in the presence of the said
Testator and of each other

This Will was proved at London on the tenth of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred and seventy seven before the Worshipfull William Quachonn? Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the
Right Worshipfull Sir George Hay Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the
Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of John Hammond one of the
Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and
Credits of the deceased was granted having been first sworn duly to administer
(Power reserved of making the like Grant to Thomas Simmons the other Executor named in the said Will when he shall apply for the same.) Exd.

Ann Allay otp & John Jarvis of Goudhurst were married by licence 29 Oct 1767 at Cranbrook.
