In the name of God Amen the Eight and xx [28] day of November in the third yeare of the Rayne of our Sofarant [sovereign] lord kinge James (1605)
I Stephen Ambros of the parish of Chilham in the Countie of Kent Husban[d]man being of good and parfet Remembarance thankes be to God do make this my Last will and testement in manner and Forme Folowing
First I will and quaid? my soulle to the Allmyghty God my maker and to Jesus Christ my saviour and Redemer and my body to the earth

Item I will and bequeith unto Richard Fox my brother xxs [20 shillings] and att other Raminges? betwene us? to be payd by Kratren my wyfe be Fore the feast of St Mychell night coming

Item I geve to Thomas Potte? my brother xls [40s] to be payd as afore
Item I geve to Stepen Pott my godson too owes [two cows] Imediatly after my deses [decease]
Item I geve to Crittes Cottenes on[e] [c]owe & to An Clarke on Cowe? Imediatly after my deses

Item I will and bequeith unto Catren my wyfe my fine horse beast and the wheat behinde the stabell that now sowen and my wheat that is in the same and barly and hallfe the otes with my Father and all my horse meat and the profit of the house and Lands wher she now is paying the Farme and thos Legaces above willed untill the Feast of St Mychell night coming

more over I will unto my wyfe my too kyne and my cow bud and the Residu of my shepe un willed and all my Howsehould stofe [stuff]
provided all wayes and my will is that if it should Forten [fortune] my wyffe should be with child that then my will is that the same child that she goeth with shall have vl [£5] of good and Lafull mony of Ingland when he or she shall com to the age of twentie yeres to be payd by Catren my wyfe out of the parcion to her affore willed

Item I will and bequeith unto Richard Ambros my brother my mare cowllt [colt] which I bought of my Father Imediatly Affter my deses
Item I will and be quay [bequeath] to Richard Ambros my father my part of the wheat in Shermans Lands

Item my will is that if Karten my wyfe to mari [marry] again that she shall enter into bonde with too suficient suerties an mont [one month] she so for her mari to Richard Ambros my brother for the performans of this (my will) whome I do make my sole (executor) of this my last will and testament ... have sett my hand

Item my will is that if it forten my wyfe to marrye agayne that she shall enter into bond with too suficient suerties on month be fore her mariag unto Richard Ambros my brother for the pformance of this vl [£5] afore sayd whome I do make my sole ex[ecu]tor of this my last will & testament or elles she to Lose the benefit of and my executor to take it to the use of my child other wyse to the use of his owne children and to se me lafully buried have here to sett my hand

Probatum fuit: 26th February 1605-06.

Notes:
The burial register for St. Mary, Chilham, Kent, reads: Stephen Ambrose was buryed the first daye of December [1605].
His baptism is: 28th August 1575. Stephen, s. of Richard Ambrose at All Saints, Biddenden, Kent.
Stephen Ambrose of Chilham and Catherine Harman, same parish, virgin, were married at St. Martin, Canterbury on 19th July 1602, by Licence.
Catherine Ambrose, widow of Chilham, married Robert Maxted of Chilham on 22nd September 1606 at St. Mary, Chilham, Kent.
