In the name of God Amen The five and twentieth daie of Aprill in the eleventh yeare of the raigne of or sovraigne King James by the grace of God of England France and Ireland Defendr of the faith &c. And of Scotland the 46th Anno dini 1613
I Jane Appleton of the parish of Easteree in the Countie of Kent widdow being sicke of bodie, but of good and perfect memorie (thankes bee given unto Almightie God) doe make and ordaine this my last will and testamt. in manner following (that is to say)
First I comend my soule into the handes of God my maker hoping assuredly through the merits of Jesus Christ my saviour to bee made p[ar]taker of lief everlasting, and my bodie to the earth whereof yt is made

Item I bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of Eastrie Fourtie shillings to bee distributed amongst them att the discretion of my Executour;
Item I bequeath to Marie my daughter the wief of Thomas Kingsford fourtie pounds to be paid wthin one yeare after my decease;

Item I bequeath to Bettris my daughter the wief of Nicholas Towne four pounds a yeare to bee paid to her or her assignes yearely every yeare by my executor during the n[atu]rall lief of the said Bettrice, upon the feast daies of the Natie [Nativity] of St. John the baptist, St. Michaell the archangell, the birth of our Lord Christ and th'annunciaton of the virgin Marie, by even porcons to bee paid, the first payment hereof to begin upon such of the said feast daies as shall next happen after my decease;

And I doe bequeath unto William Towne sonne of the said Bettris Fourtie pounds to bee paid unto him wthin three monethes after the decease of the said Bettris his mother;
Item I bequeath unto Jane Kingsforde the daughter of the said Thomas Kingsforde Five pounds to bee paid unto her when shee shalbee of the age of sixteene yeares;
Item I bequeath unto John Hilde my sonne Fourtie weathers and Tenn Ewes
Item I bequeath unto Thomas Hild my sonne Tenn pounds to be pd unto him whin one yeare after my decease,
Item I bequeath unto John Hild my sonne Twentie pounds to bee paid unto him within one yeare after my decease,

Item I bequeath unto my three daughters Margerie, Joane and Elizabeth three fether beds furnished with all things belonging unto the said bedds to bee equallie devided betweene them and unto everie of my said daughters six paire of sheets a peece indifferentlie to bee chosen all,

Item my mynd and will is, that all my pewter and brasse shalbe equally devided into fower porcons hereof and one parte hereof to Stephen? my sonne, one other pt hereof to Margerie my daughter, one other pt hereof to Joane my daughter and the Fowrth pt hereof to Elizabeth my daughter

Item I bequeath unto my foure daughters Jane, Margret, Joane and Elizabeth all the Cropp & Croppes of corne and graine wch shall beefore my decease bee growing upon the landes which belong unto my said Daughters;

Provided and my mynde & will is, that Edward Jenkin the husband of my daughter Jane shall not take anie pt of the said Croppe or Croppes, before he shall have discharged my executor of the some of twentie pounds wch shall have bene paid by one to the said Edward Jenkin for his wives Right in Certaine Lands Called Hobidwks?; And if the said Edward shall refuse to discharge my executors of the said xxli then I will the said Jane shall have noe pt of the said Cropps, but I will the pt which shee should have hadd by this my will unto my executors

Item my mind and will is that William Hild my sonne shall have and enjoy the lease of all the lands called Hardw(i)ks lying in Woodnesborow
And that the said Edward Jenkin and my said foure daughters Jane, Margerie, Joane and Elizabeth shall make such further assurance unto the said Willm Hilde and his heires executors & assignes of the said Land called Hardicke, as by the said Willm Hardicke, his heires or assignes shalbee required
Also my mind and will is that the said Willm Hild shall discharge and Release my said foure daughters against himselfe his heyres, executors and assignes and see farre forth as shalbe in his power Concerning their wardshipp and mariage in such manner as by their learned Councell shalbee advised and required
And that the said Willm Hild shall att his charges procure to bee purchased one p[ar]cell of arrable land Contayning by estimacon two acres of land lying in Woodnesborow now being the landes of Rogr Manwood, gent[leman] and adjoyning unto certaine of the lands purchased by Thomas Appleton my late husband, and that the said two acres of land soe to bee purchased shalbee purchased in the names of my foure daughters Jane, Margerie, Joane and Elizabeth to bee hadd and holden to them and their heires for evr

And yf my said sonne William or anie of my said foure daughters shall willinglie refuse to pforme anie clause wch they or anie of them ought by this my will to pforme, Then my will is that such of them as shall soe refuse shall onlie have xxs paid unto him or her soe refusing shall have noe other benefit of this my wyll

Item I bequeath unto Phillis Hilde my Sister Fourtie shillings to bee paid unto her wthin Twoe yeres after my decease, vizt., wthin one halfe yeare after my decease xs thereof, and so everie halfe yeare then following xs, untill the xls bee paid

Item I will & bequeath all the rest of my moveables, goods, chattles & houshould stuffe whatsowever unto the said William Hild my sonne, whom I make and ordaine to bee sole executor of this my last will and testamt desiring him to see any debts paid and legacies p[er]formed

This is the laste will and testament of mee the sayd Jane Apleton made the daie and year aforesd. concerning the disposing of my lands and Tenemts

Firste I will and bequeath my tenement and lands next adjoyning scituate and lying in Easterie or Word al[ia]s Worth were a place called ...... unto John Hild my sonne during the terme n'rall lyef And after his decease, I bequeath the said tenemt & landes unto William Hilde my sonne during his nrall lief, and after his decease to John Hild his sonne and to his heires for ever

Item I will and bequeath my Tenem[en]t sabiat? in Eastrie Streete unto Elizabeth Appleton my daughter and to her heires for ever
Alsoe my will and mynde is that my executor shall give and deliver unto the said Elizabeth my daughter sufficient thatch for the thatching of the said tenemnt to her bequeathed And shall also paie unto her vli [£5] toward the charges to finish the building thereof;

Also I will and bequeath unto my said sonne William Twoe pcells of land Contayning by estimacon five acres wch I purchased of John Goulder to bee hadd and holden to my said sonne William and his heires for ever,
Upon Condicon that my said sonne William and his heires doe permitt and suffer my sonne John Hild and his assignes to have occupie and enjoy all those seaven acres of land lying in Eastree nere the brookside here, Late purchased by mee and the said William Frend for and during the terme of the nrall lief of the sayd John Hyld my sonne

Thomas Appleton married Jane Hild 9th May 1588 at St. Mary the Virgin, Eastry, Kent.
