I George Ashenden of Ashford in the County of Kent Yeoman beinge of perfect remembrance praised be God therefore doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following

First I doe appoynt my Executor hereinafter named to pay unto Mary Ashenden daughter of my sonn Lenard Ashenden deceased the sume of fortie pounds of lawfull English money which was a legacy given to her by her Grandmother Halmanden

And also I appoint my Executor hereafter named to pay unto the foresaid Mary Ashenden; And to Elizabeth; And to Anne Ashenden the daughters of my sonne Lenard aforesaid deceased, the sum of three and fortie pounds of lawfull English money to every and each of them, which was given to them by my sonne George Ashenden deceased

Item I five unto the foresaid Mary Ashenden the sume of fortie and seaven pounds of lawfull English money
Item I give unto Elizabeth Ashenden And to Ann Ashenden the foresaid daughters of my sonne Lenard deceased To each of them the sum of Seaven and Fiftie pounds of lawfull English money to be paide unto them by my Executor hereafter named,
and all the foresaid Sumes when they shall accomplish their several age of eighteene yeares, or at their severall daies of mariage which shall first happen
And also the fore severall sumes to Mary Ashenden aforesaid when she shall accomplish and be at her age of eighteene yeares, or at her day of marriage

Also I appoynt my Executor heereafter named to pay unto the children of my sonne Abraham Ashenden : Agnes and George, the Sume of fowerscore and sixe pounds of lawfull English money to bee equally devided betweene them : which said sume of fowerscore and sixe pounds was given them by my sonne George Ashenden deceased
Item I give unto the said Agnes, And to George, the two Children of my sonne Abraham, to each of them Seaventeene pounds of lawfull English money, to be paid unto them, with the foresaid sume of fowerscore and sixe pounds, by my Executor heereafter named when they shall accomplish and be of their severall ages of eighteene yeares; or at the day of their marriage; which shall first happen

Item I give unto my daughter Agnes Colte the sume of Tenne pounds of lawfull money of England
Item I give unto Mary Colt twentie pounds of like English money
Item I give unto Abigall Colt twenty pounds of like English money
Item I give unto George Colt one other of my Grandchildren All that my Messuage with Thapptenances [the appurtenances] situat in Ashford aforesaid, to be holden unto him, at his age of Eighteene yeares, or at his day of marriage, which shall first happen : And then to his heires and assigns for ever

Item I give unto Robert Lewes my wives daughters sonne, the sume of Tenne pounds of like English money, to be paid to him by my Executor hereafter named when he shall accomplish and be of his age of one and twenty yeares :
And if he shall happen to depart this life before hee shall accomplish his age of one and twenty yeares, Then I will and give the said tenne pounds to George Ashenden, sonne of my sonne Abraham at his age aforesaid

Item I give unto my sonne Abraham Ashenden Twenty pounds of like English money, to be paid unto him by my Executor hereafter named within three monethes next after my decease :
And if it happen that any of the Children of my sonne Lenard, or of my sonne Abraham, or of my daughter Agnes Colt which are before menconed shall dep[ar]t this life before they shall accomplish their ages or times aforesaid : Then my will is that the Survivor or Survivors of them, that is the brother or sisters of the deceased, to have by equall porcons the legacies of the decease[d] among them :

Item I will and give unto my Executor heereafter named Tenne pounds of lawfull English money to be laid out upon clothing of Tenne the poorest widdowes of the towne of Ashford within three monethes after my decease
Item I give unto my sonne Abraham Ashenden, And to my sonne George Colt, and George Colt his sonne, All my Bills, and money thereuppon lent to the State, to be equally devided among them :

Lastly I doe hereby appoynt make and ordaine my sonne George Colt to be my sole Executor of this my last will and testament, to whome I give all the rest of my goods unbequeathed, whom I also appoint to pay all my debts and legacies and funerall expences, And within three monethes after my decease to give sufficient bond to my sonne Abraham for the p'formance of this my last will and testament :

And renouncing all other and former will or willes, I declare this to be my last will and testament, Sealed with my seale this Eighteenth day of January in the yeare of our Lord one thousand Sixe hundred Fiftie and two [1552/3]

The eight and Twentieth day of March 1654. There issued forth letters of Administracon [Administration] (from the Judges for probate of wills and granting Adm'on lawfully authorized) To Agnes Colt the relict and Executrix of George Colt, deceased, whilest he lived, the sole Executor of George Ashenden dec'ed To administer the goods, Chattell and debts of the said deceased, According to the tenor and effect of his said will (for that the said George Colt the sole Executor of the said dec'ed, dyed before he tooke upon him the execution of the said deceaseds will) She the said Agnes Colt being first sworne by vertue of a Commission to that effecte, well and truly to Administer the same :

George Ashenden was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Ashford, Kent on 24 Nov 1653.
George Ashenden was baptised 17 Sep 1587, s. of Leonarde Ashenden, at St. Mary Breadman, Canterbury, Kent.
George Ashenden, Saddler of Canterbury married Mary Fowsley, widow of Ashford, on 21 Apr 1613 at St. Mary, Ashford, by Licence.
They had six known children (all baptised at St. Mary, Ashford):
13 Feb 1613/14 Leonarde; 1 Oct 1615 (bu.: 16 Dec 1619) John; 9 Nov 1617 Agnes; 26 Sep 1619 George; 24 Jun 1621 William; 25 Apr 1624 Abraham.
