In dei noie Amen [In the name of God Amen] the ij day of Marche in the yere of owr Lorde God a [1582/83]
I John Asten of Sandherst of hole mynde and good Remembrannce beyng make my testament in thys maner followyth
Fyrst I comend my sowle to Almygyttye God, to owr Ladye Saynte Marye And to all the cmpenye [company] of hevyn, my bodye to be buryed in Saynt Nycholas Cherche yarde of Sandherst a foresayde

Item I bequethe to the hye Aultre [high altar] there for my tythys forgotten and neglygetly [negligently] wyth holden iiijd
Item I bequethe to the beame lyght iiijd
Item to all the lygst [lights] of owr Ladye of pyttye [pity] ijd
Item I bequethe to the lyght of Sant Anthonye ijd
Item I bequethe to evrye of my god Chyldren iiijd
Item I wyll there be dystrubute(d) the daye of my burying for the helthe of my sowle and all xpen [Christian] sowles xs
Item I bequethe for lyke cause at my monythis [month's] mynd xiijs iiijd
And at my yeres mynde for lyke cause xs

Item I bequethe to evrye Genett, Julyan and Agnes my dowghters xxs to be payde at the daye of there mariyage, And yf anye of my sayde dowghters dye before the tyme of her mariage that then her part of monaye so dysceasyde [deceased] shall Remayne to here other systers or syster then lyvyng

The Resydue of all my goods above not bequthyd [bequeathed] my detts and funerall expesye [expences] fyrst payde
I geve and bequethe to Joane my wyffe whiche Johane of this my present testament I ordayne and make my sole executryx

And ovrseer of the same I ordayne John Knotte and he to have for hys labore in helpyng my sayde wyffe as he taketh payne

This ys the last wyll of me the forsayde John Asten mayd the daye and yeyer a bowe [above] sayde

Fyrst I wyll that Robart Duncke my feoffe of a pece of land callyd Chekerchin make estate to my brother Rychard Asten of the forsayde pece of Land called Checkerhin wyth the appurtenncs [appurtenances] to have to hym and to hys heyres for ever
Under codycyon [condition] that the same Rychard paye or cause to be payde to Johane my Wyffe my Executryx vijli [£7] of Lawfull englyshe monaye whereof I wyll my sayde executryx paye unto Benet Asten my mother v nobles

and to an honest prest to syng for my sowle by the space of one quartr of a yere v nobles
And the Resydue of the same monaye I bequeythe to my sayde executrix to the pformacys [performance] of thys my Last wyll and testament
To thys wytenesith [these witnesses]
