In the name of God Amen the nyne and twentithe daye of November in the Seaventeenthe yeare of the raigne of or Sovraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland, kinge defender of the faythe &c. Annoq. din 1641.
I Thomas Attwood of the p[ar]ishe of Upper Hardres in the Countie of Kent Yeoman beinge weake in bodie but of p[er]fect mind and memorie (praysed be God therefore) doe make and ordayne this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge (that is to saye)
First I comend my soule into the hands of Almightie God my Creator hopeinge assuredlie to be saved by and through the meritts and passion of Jesus Christ my redeemer, and my bodie I will to be decentlie buried in the pishe Churche of Upper Hardres aforesaid att the discretion of my Executor hereafter menconed
and as concerninge my now estate wch as yett in marriage wch my Children & otherwise I have not distributed I will as followeth

Inprimis to the poore people of Upper Hardres aforesaid the some of fifteene shillings to be paid by my Executor wthin one moneth after my decease unto the Churchwardens of the same pishe and by them to be distributed to the said poore
It(em) I will unto my welbeloved wife duringe her life my best bed & bedstedle furnished and after her decease I will the same bed & bedstedle furnished to her sone John Dunkyn
Item I will to my said wife my black mare, two peauter [pewter] dishes, one smale Kettle, one Chest holdinge about six busshells, two payer of sheets and twelve yards of new Cloathe

Item I will to my daughter Johan the wife of William Stroud (to whom I have given in marriage heretofore a p[or]con) the some of five pounds to be paid unto her wthin six monethes after my decease
Item I will unto the two sones of my said daughter Johan, namelie Richard & Michaell the some of seaven pounds & tenn shillings apeece to be paid unto them att their sevrall ages of one and twentie yeares and yf either of the same two sones dye before the said age then I will the porcon of him soe dyeinge to the survivor of them

Item I will to my daughter Katherine the wife of Edward Kingesmill (to whome I have given in marriage a porcon heretofore) the some of five pounds to be paid unto her wthin six monethes after my decease
Item I will unto the sonne and two daughters of my said daughter Katherine namelie Thomas, Johan and Ellen the some of five pounds apeece to be paid unto them att their sevrall ages of one and twentie yeares and yf anie of the said sone and two daughters dye before the said age, then I will the pcon of them or anie of them soe dyeinge unto the Survivor of them the said sone & two Daughters

Item I will to my Daughter Elizabeth the wife of John Dunkyn (to whom I have given in marriage a porcon heretofore) the some of five pounds to be paid unto her wthin six monethes after my decease
Item I will unto the sone and two daughters of my said daughter Elizabeth namelie Thomas, Susan and Elizabeth the some of five pounds to be paid unto them att their sevrall ages of one and twentie yeares and yf anie of the said one sone and two daughters last menconed dye before the said age, then I will the pcon of them or anie of them soe dyeinge unto the survivor of them the said sone and two daughters last menconed

Item I will to my daughter Susan the Wife of Robert Spratt (to whome I have given a bigger porcon in marriage) the some of twentie shillings to be paid unto her wthin six monethes after my decease
Item I will unto the Thomas the sone of my said daughter Susann the some of fower pounds to be paid unto him att his age of one and twentie yeares

Item I will to the three sones and one daughter of my sone Edward namelie Thomas, Richard, Edmund & Marie the some of twentie shillings apeece to be paid unto them att their sevrall ages of one and twentie yeares
Item I will unto my mayd servant Elizabeth Cooke one Ewe sheepe
Item I will to my boy servant Moyses Pysinge one Ewe sheepe

all the reasidue of my goods Chattells Cattells readie monie and plate whatsoever unbequeathed after my debts legacies and funerall expences paid and discharged I will and bequeath unto my sone Edward Attwood whome I make and ordayne the full whole and sole Executor of this my last will and testament hereby charging him honestlie and truelie to p[er]forme the same

this is the last will and testament of me the said Thomas Attwood made and declared the daye and yeare above said
And as touchinge and concerninge suche lands as I have not alreadie settled upon my aforesaid sone Edward Attwood I will & bequeath as followeth (that is to saye)

All that my Messuage barne stable and lands whatsoever nowe in the occupacon of my said sone Edward scituate lyeinge and beinge in the pishe of Elmsted I will and bequeathe the same unto Richard and Edmond the two youngest sones of my said sone Edward and to their heires and assignes
It(em) my will and further meaninge is that my said sone Edward & his assignes shall have and enojye his and their use the rents yssues and p[ro]fitts of my said messuage barne stable and lands untill the said Richard and Edmond shall or might have attayned their sevrall ages of one and twentie yeares

In witnes whereof I the said Thomas Attwood to this my last will & testament written in three sheets of paper my hand and seale have sett the daye and yeare abovesaid

Notes:
Thomas Attwood of Bursted (the north part of Upper Hardres) was buried 1st December 1641 in SS Peter & Paul, Upper Hardres, Kent.
Thomas Atwood, Yeoman and Susanna Dunkin, Widow, both of Bishopsbourne, were married at Bishopsbourne 12th November 1615. The Bondsman was Jacobus Hurst, Vicar of Bishopsbourne.
Daughter Katherine Attwood married Edmund Kingsmill at Upper Hardres on 25th July 1625.
Daughter Elizabeth Attwood married John Dunkyn at Upper Hardres on 11th August 1627.
Daughter Susan Sainte, Widow of Great Hardres married Robert Spratt, Widower, Husbandman of Brabourne on 1st August 1638 at Upper Hardres, by Licence.
Richard Saint of Seasalter, yeoman, wdr & Susan Wood of Great Hardres, spr. about 25, d. of Thomas Wood, same place, yeom. who consents. At Seasalter. Joseph Tangett of Cant., barber, bonds. July 29, 1635 licence. Married 3 Aug 1635.
Son Edward Atwood, yeoman, Widower of Elmsted married Helen Cloake, 21, singlewoman of Elmstead at St. Andrew, Canterbury, Kent on 19th March 1635.
