In the name of God Amen The x daye of August in the yer of our Lord God [1522] and in the xiiijth yer of the Reyng [Reign] of King Henry the viijth
I Thomas Baker Husbandman yn [in] the parisshe of Thanyngton [Thanington] Withowte of Cantbury [Canterbury] of holw mynde make my testament and Last Will under this forme
First I bequeith my Soule to Almyghty God and to our Ladie his motter [mother] and to allthe blessed Sayntes [Saints] of hevyn [heaven] My body to be buried yn the churche yarde of Saynt Nicholas yn Tahnyngton yn the south parte besides my first wife

Item I bequeith to the sayd churche of Saynte Nicholas for my tithes and oblations negligently forgotten iijs a iiijd [3 shillings and 4 pence]
Item to our Ladie light xxd
Item to the crosse light xxd
Item to Saynt Nicholas light xxd
Item I will have at the daye of my burieng [burying] dirige* and x masses and at my moneth mynde [months mind] dirige and x masses *a dirige is a Roman Catholic service for the dead.

And at my furth [fourth] fast I will that every household yn my parisshe shall have ijd and a half piny [penny] lese [i.e. 1� pence each household]
And at my twelve moneth mynde I will have xiijd bestowed, v in masses and the remainder in brede and drinke [bread and drink] among the poore people and so from yere to yere to the space of vij yeres And that summes to use out of the stock

Item I will that my Wife shalhave half my household stuffe and a litle tenement that I bought of Laurence Farebusse durying her life kepyng [keeping] the reparacons [keeping the said tenement in good repair] and rents the White rentt And after the decesse [decease] of her Corpse it shalbe orderd after the discretion of Thomas Byng and John Barbett for my Soule(s) helth [health]

And the other halfe of my household stuffe shalbe devided equally betwene my ij daughtrs excet a shippe chest and a brasse pott with a kowe? foote the which I bequeith to my Godson Richard Byng

Also I will that after the deth of my Wife my daugtrs [daughters] Johane Swift shalhave the great cheste duryng her life and after her Johane Baker

Also my Wife shalhave for her and her son Stephyn the space of vij yeres my dwelling place if she live so long payeing the White rent and kepyng reparations

Also my Wife shalhave the kepyng and the guydyng [guiding] of my daughter Johane Baker the space of half a yer ymmediatley [immediately] after my deth if she will or ells I will she shalbe with John Barbett and he to have the terme of ij kyne and xiijs & iijd [13 shillings and 4 pence] yn money yerly to kepe her the whiche money shall arise of the house and of the stock, that is to saye, vjs & viijd [6 shillings and 8 pence] outt of the stock
And also he to have vjs & viijd yerly for to araye her the whiche vjs & viijd shalbe oayed yerly by the assignment of Thomas Byng or els the said Thomas Byng to aray her of his owne coste and paysion

Also after the space of vij yeres I will that my dwelling place shalbe sold except my Wife be able and will kepe it long(er) if she so will I will that she shalhave it as long as she be able and will kepe it afore any other payeing the price thereof And yf she be not able and will not kepe it long(er) than vij yere or els Deith within vij yeres then I will my dwelling place shalbe sold after the best valew [value] by the discrecon of Thomas Byng and John Barbett and orderd under this forme

I will that a portion be kept to the behofe of my doughter Johane Baker after the discretion of Thomas Byng and John Barbett to help to make her or make her sister yn some hyasppitall [hospital]
And the remnant of the sale of this house I will shall go pare to the reparations of the churche to pouer [poor] maydens mariages

Item I bequeith to my godson Thomas Tomson viijd
And to my Wifes goson Thomas Byng iijs iiijd
And to Robert Redeson iijd
And to John Colbrand viijd
And to my wifes goddoughter Piers dougter vjd
And to Lamysthis? doughter vjd
And to Alice Byng vjs viijd
And to wyse godse Johannis Byng a vs iiijd
Stephen Barbett xxd and a paire of shetes
And to John Barbett xxd and a paire of shetes
Item to Willm Barbett xxd and a paire of shetes
Item to Willm Byng vjs viijd
And to Robert Byng vjs viijd
And to every of my god children besides thes afore named iiijd
Item to Saynt Gregories vjsviijd
Item to Sir Willm Taylor to pay a trentall [30] of masses xs
Item to the reparation of the churche xs

Item to Thomas Byng whome I make myne Executor xls [60 shillings]
Item to John Barbett the elder whom I make the Oversear of my Will and of the dispsicion of all my goodes xxs
And the residue of all my goodes to be at the disposicion of Thomas Byng and John Barbett the elder to be done and orderd for my soule

Theis beyng Witnesse Sir William Tailor Thomas Byng John Barbett the Lord Shepherd Barbett with other names
