In the name of God Amen in the yere of our Lorde [1551] and in the xvth day of Apryll
I John Baker of Chilhame (sic) in the countye of Kente holle of mynde [whole of mind] and of good memorye, parysed be God, ordaigne and make this my testamente and laste will in maner and forme followynge
fyrstte I bequethe my Soull to allmyghtie God & our blessed Ladye the Vyrgin and to all the holye companye of heaven and my bodye to be buryed in the churche yard of Chilham (sic) besyds [besides] my father wher he lyethe

Item I bequethe to Agnes Baker my wiff the house wherein I now do dwell And after the decease of her I gyve yt to Willm Baker my Sonne and the heyres of his bodye Lawfully begotten and for Lacke of Hayres of his bodye Lawfully begotten and I gyve it to my sonne Robert Baker and to the hayres of his bodye Lawfully begotten and for Lacke of hayres of his bodye Lawfully begotten I wyll yt to Clement Baker my sonne and to his hayres

Item I will that Roberte Baker shall paye to Agnis Baker his mother for the terme of her lyffe yerelye a xxs [20 shillings] for the house that he now dwellethe in and the same Agnes to have the ij summes of the said house that she now occupyeth and frelye [freely] to come to the ost [oast] to drey [dry] her malte and frelye to drawe water at the wall [well] of the said house
Item I will that Agnes my wiff shalhave half the house that is to say the Lower pte [part] thereof for her occupyenge durynge her lyffe

Item I will that Agnes my wiff shalhave durynge her lyffe half of ye Landes that I have by Leave [Lease] of the Lord of Chilhame lyenge by the fotte waye Leddyinge [Leading] to Shotynden [Shottenden] and after her decease to remaigne to whome she Lysthe [listeth?] and thother half of the said Lands I wyll to Roberte Baker duryeng the yeres of the said Leave [Lease] and the farme to be paid equallie betwixte them

Item I give to Roberte my Sonn a xxs whiche he oweth me for a yeres farme of the house that he dwellethe in
Item I will that Roberte Baker shalhave all my horse and geldyngs ploughe withe al maner of harnes [harness] and tacklings belongynge thereto

Item I give to John Turner to John Baker to Peter Smith and to Ursula Baker to eiche [each] of them a xijd to be paid Imedyatly [immediately] after my decease and after the decease of Agnis my wiff I gyve to eich of them a spoone of sylver

Item I gyve to Clement Baker a xjs after my decease

The Resydewe [Residue] of all y goods and moveables unbequethed I give to Agnes my wyff whome I ordaigne and make myne executrix of this my Testamente and Laste will my debts and bequethes fulfylled and paid

Witnesses of this my Testamente Symond Allen Moyles Hall Leonard Sturges and John Smythe

Notes:
Parish Registers don�t start for St. Mary, Chilham until 1558.
Clement Baker mentioned in the Will married 18th May 1579 at St. Mary, Chilham to Elizabeth Frenchborne. However, he died and was buried there soon thereafter on 14th January 1590.
There is no mention of Robert Baker (marriage, having children or burial) in Chilham.
John Baker married (not in Chilham) and had numerous children there from 1566 onwards.
William Baker died and was buried at Chilham on 17th February 1561.
