In the name of God Amen the xiijth daye of June In the yeare of our Lorde God a Thousand Five hundred Three skore and Fowteene [1574]
I John Baker of Stelling in the countie of Kent, myllwryghte [millwright], being in whole mynde and pfette [perfect] Remembrannce but sicke and deceased [hopefully, diseased!] of bodie doe make this my laste will and Testamente in manner and forme following
First I Bequethe my Soule to Allmightie God my Redemer and Saviour throwe whose blud & pasyon [blood and passion] I truste to be saved my body to the earthe to be buried in xpistian [Christian] buryall where my Executor undernamed shall thinke good

Item I will to Ursula Forthington my daughter all my moveable goodes whereof I am nowe possessed
And for my charitie & goodwill to the poore of the said pishe [parish] of Stelling over and above Tenne poundes that I meane shall be distributed amongest them in suche order as I shall in these p�sente [present] hereafter appoynte I refer to the Discretion of Arthure Baker my sonne whome I make my sole Executor of this my p�sent last will & Testament

And as concerning the disposition of my howse or Tenement in Stelling and Waltham or elles [else] where wthin [within] the countie of Kent I John Baker afore named do give and will to the said Arthure my Sonne and to his heyres for ever All an singular those my Messuage or Tenement wth [with] ther apptenncs [their appurtenances] lands Tenements & hereditaments wth all and singuler ther apptenncs scituate lying ad being within the Countie of Kente upon thes consideracons and condicons hereafter declared & not otherwise / That is to say /

Upon Condicon that he the said Arthure my sonne his executors or assignes do pay or cause to be payed wthin twelve moneths after my decease unto the said Ursula my Daughter or to her assignes fourtene poundes of lawfull mony of Yngland [England]

And also that the said Arthure his Executors or Assignes doe paye or cause to be payed wthin twelve monethes after my decease unto Elizabeth Clark my Daughter or to her assiges Tihrteene poundes of lawful mony of Yngland

And also that the said Arthure his Executors or Assignes doe paye or cause to be payed wthin twelve monethes after my decease unto Ursula Baker my second said Daughter or to hir assiges Tenne poundes of lawful mony of Yngland

And in like manner wthin the tyme above lymytted that the said Arthure his executors or assignes do paye or cause to be payed to Mary Stote or hir assignes Eighte poundes of lawull mony of Yngland

And also I will that my said sonne Arthure shall paye to the handes of Mr. Richarde Hardres wthin one yeare after my decease Tenne poundes of lawfull mony of Yngland And he the said Master Hardres or his assignes to bestowe thereof of everye yeare at such tyme wthin the yeare as he shall thinke good in breade & drinke to the some of Twentie shillinges to be geven & distributed amongest the poore of the said pisshe of Stelling during such tyme & yeares as the said Tenne poundes last

And the said Master Richard Hardres of this my p�sente laste will & Testament I make myne Overseer To whome I will for his paynes in seing this my laste will & Testamente executed and p�formed (as that is in hym) sixe poundes of lawfull mony of Yngland to be payed unto the said Richarde Hardres or his assignes by my forenamed Executor his executors or assignes wthin twelve monethes after my decease

And my will and mynde is that my said Executor Arthure my sonne shall wthin one monethe after my decease be bounde with sufficient Suerties [Sureties] in the Sume of two hundred pounds of lawfull mony of Yngland to the said Richarde Hardres The condicen of wch bonde to be that he the said Arthure his heires Executors or Assignes shall directlie and truelie paye and contente my Juste Dettes & p�forme & satisffie these my legacyes Abive willed conteyning my laste will & Testamente

Provided and my will is that yf my said Sonne Arthure doe or shall refuse to be bounde & fynde Suerties in manner above lymytted or shall refuse to take on hym the execution of this my said will & Testament or do take upon hym thexecution [the execution] and chardge thereof And not in everye poynte and condicon according to my will & mynde as is above declared paye all my Juste Dettes and legacies Above willed Then my will and full mynde is not wthstanding any free gifte to my said Sonne Arthure aforesaid That mye said howse or Tenemente wth thapptenncs in Stelling aforesaid and all my lands in Stelling and Waltham abovesaid or elles where wthin the countie of Kente shall Remayne to Ursula & Elizabeth my daughters as to Arthure my sonne equally amongest them and ther heyres to be ptycyoned [partitioned] shifted and devydid [divided] meaninge to everye of them the said Ursula Elizabethe and Arthur ther partes and porcons of the said messuage and Tenement lands and Tenements Above said in fee symple

And I will that everye the said partes by good sureties under bonde to be taken of them by my said Overseer wthin one monethe after my deathe see my Dettes payd and this my laste will and testament & the contents thereof satisfied to whiche effecte the bondes shall extende And whiche of my said Daughter or sonnes that shall refuse to this effecte to fynde Sufficiente sureties and be bounde shall losse the Benefitte of this my will

Wytness that the said John Baker confessethe this will to be his laste wyll & Testamente to the which he hath sette his marke and Seale in the p�sence [presence] of
Thomas Rolf writer hereof William Clare & Stephen Hayslden

Probatum fuit: Septimo dei Augusti [7th August] anno dini [1574].

Son Arthure Baker married Mary Moones 9th July 1590 at St. Mary the Virgin, Brabourne, Kent.
Daughter Ursula Baker apparently married someone with the surname Forthington � but it is Wardington in the parish register of Bekesbourne, on 4th August 1569. His forename is spelt: Hewghe....
Marriage of Daughter Elizabeth Baker to a Clark(e) is not found.
