In the name of God Amen
I Laurence Baker of the pish [parish] of Ould Rumney [Old Romney] in the County of Kent Yeoman being sicke in body but of a good and perfect memorie, thanks be given to God therefore, doe ordaine and make this my last will in writinge the twoe and twentyth day of august 1626 in manner and forme following
first and principally I bequeath and recommend my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker Redeemer and Continuall preser..r [preserver?] who of his infinite love and mercy in Christ Jesus my Saviour hath chosen mee unto eternall life and my body I comend to the earth to bee buried in Christian and decent buriall in the churchyard of ould Remnyey (sic)

Item I will my blacke gelding called Soloman gelding to James Thurland of Canterbury Esquire
Item I give to twenty of the (poore) of New romney and to twenty of the (poore) of Lyd [Lydd] forty shillings to accompanye mee to old Romney wch [which] money is to bee imployed for their dinner

Item I give to Mr. Sudell xjs to make him a mourning Ringe
Item I give to John Baker the sonne of Beniamin Baker five pound to bee paid wthin [within] fowre months after my decease unto the towne of Newe Romney and they to put it out to the child�s use
Item I give to William Morris fower pound to bee paid wthin one month after my decease

Item I give all the residue, my funerall expences and debts and Legacies being paid I give unto Robert Baker my Brother for ever Provided allwaies [always] and uppon Condicon that if my Brother shall wthin one month after my decease put my Cousin William Thurland of Ivichirch [Ivychuch] Jurat in good and sufficient bondes and security for the discharge of all such bonds pledges or any other things whatsoever wch he any way standeth bound or in custody formee otherwise if he shall Refuse to doe then I nominate and appoint my Cosen Thurland my full and whole Executor of this my last will and testament hee doing and performing what my said brother should have done

Notes:
Laurence Baker was buried on 15th August 1626 at St. Clement, Old Romney.
Laurence Baker had been christened there on 4th July 1571; and older Brother Robert Baker on 25th October 1559.
No parents are given at this early age. A Laurence Baker married Joane Barrow there on 15th February 1551.
