First I give and devise unto my kind and loveing Wife Mary All that my Mill Millhouse Lands and premisses scituate and being in Patrixbourne aforesaid which I hold by Lease for the terme of Fower score and nineteene yeares to be accompted from the Feast day of St. Mikaell Tharchangell [St. Michael the Archangel] now last past of William Wanstall of Patrixbourne aforesaid To be had and holden to the said Mary my wife for and during so many yeares of the said terme as shee shall live under the Rents and revenants in the said Lease contained
And from adn after the death of my said Wife I give and devise the same for and during all the then
residue and remainder of the said Terme unto Michael Bigge sonne of my Sister Mary Bigge and unto
Nicholas Brithered [Brighthead?] my grandchild sonne of my daughter Sarah now wife of John Britchered
(sic) and to the executors and assignes of the said Michael Bigge and Nicholas Brithered equallie to be divided
And if either of them shall be minded to sell his interest in the premisses My will is that the
other of them shall purchase the same giveing as much as any other Bona fide will give for the same
Provided alwaies and my will and minde is that if my said Wife shall marrie (she) shall before their intermarriage enter into on obligacon unto the said William Wanstall of the penall sume of one hundred and fifty pounds with one or more sureties to be approved by the said William Wanstall Condiconed that such person as shee intendeth then to marrie in case shee die before the said (marriage?) shall leave hereof the time of his death in as good (if not better) in estate as the said Mary shalbe left at the time of my decease
And if the said Mary shall intermarry before such securitie given as aforesaid Then my devise of the said
Mill Millhouse Lands & premisses to the said Mary shall be void, And then I give the same acdly
[accordingly] to the said Michael Bigge and Nicholas Brithered their Executors and assignes during all the
then remainder of the Terme aforesaid
And this I doe provide out of Love to my said Wife because I would have her be well advised before shee marrie againe after
my decease that shee may not bee wronged in her second marriage
Item I give to my sonne in Lawe John Hornsby and to Elizabeth his Wife my daughter one shilling a peece in money to be paied them when they shall demand the same by my Executrix
Item I give to my sonne in Lawe John Brithered and to my daughter Sarah his Wife before named the
like sume one shilling a peece in money to be paied unto them upon demand
And the reason I have given them now more by this my Will is because I have allready given them
Competent porcons according to my abillity
Item I give unto my Cosen Abraham Smith twelve pence and to my Cosen Walter Bigge twelve pence
All the rest and residue of my goods and Chattells I give to my loveing Wife Mary whome I do noiate
[nominate] Constitute and appoint to be sole Executrix of this my last will and testament
And I doe desire my loveing friend and Landlord William Wanstall to be overseer of this my Will in the ordering and
mannagement of the said Lease during her Life
In Witnes whereof I the said Nicholas Baker to this my last will & testament conteyned in two sheetes of
paper and this parte of a sheete I have to either sheete sette my marke and to the Toppe hereof fixed my

Notes:
Nicholas Baker died and was buried on 17th July 1665 at St. Mary, Patrixbourne.
His christening has not been found � there is a possibility of Selling (10 miles as the crow flies) in 1582, s. of George.
Nicholas Baker, Miller and Widower of Patrixbourne, married Mary Barber aged 36, of the Precincts of
Canterbury Cathedral on 27th February 1662 at St. Mary Magdalene, Canterbury.
His previous marriage is not currently found.
None of the children mentioned in the above Will are found being baptised.
Daughter Sara Baker married John Brightread (Brighthead?) 27th May 1645 at St. Mary, Bishopsbourne.
