In the name of God Amen I James Baker of Pedlinge in the parish of Saltwood in the County of Kent, Yeoman, being Sick and weak in body but of Sound and disposing Mind and memory (praised be Almighty God for the Same) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in maner and form following, hereby revoking and annulling by these prsents all and every Will and Wills by me heretofore made and declared either by Word or in Writing and desiring and appointing that this only be taken for my last Will and Testament
and first being heartily sorry for my Sins past Most humble desiring forgiveness of the Same I Comitt my Soul to Almighty God my creator trusting to be Saved through the Merits and Mediacon of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer and I my body I Comitt to the Earth to receive a Decent and Christian buriall at the discrecon of my Executrix hereinafter named And also the disposall of that temporall Estate both real and psonall [personal] which it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give devise bequeath and bestow the Same as followeth

Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my Eldest Son Edward Baker and to his heirs from and after he shall attain his aged of one and twenty Years All those my Seven Acres of Pastureland with the Appurten[an]ces lying and being in in the p[ar]ish of Standford in the said County and now or late in the tenure or Occupacon of Mary Swanton Widow or her Assignes

Item I give devise and bequeath unto my Second Son William Baker and his heirs when he shall attain the Age of four and twenty Years All those my Six Acres of Arrable land with the Apprutences lying and being at Pedlinge aforesaid

Item I give devise and bequeath all that my messuage or Tenement called Horne Downe and all that peice or parcell of land called Horne Downe Feild containing by estimacon four Acres be the Same more or less with the Appurtences and also all that peice or parcell of land Called Pond feild containg by estmation four Acres be the Same more or less with the Appurtences which said Messauge lands and prmisses last menconed are Scituate lying and being in Saltwood aforesaid unto my Youngest Son James Baker and his heirs from and after the death and decease of my loving wife Elizabeth the Same being Setlled on her for her life as her Joynture

Item I give and bequeath unto my Eldest Daughter Mary Baker the Sume of Fifty pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her by my Executrix hereinafter named at her age of one and twenty Yeares
Item I give and bequeath unto my Second Daughter Elizabeth Baker the Sume of Fifty pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her by my Executrix hereinafter named at her age of one and twenty Yeares
Item I give and bequeath unto my Youngest Daughter Susan Baker the Sume of Fifty pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her by my Executrix hereinafter named at her age of one and twenty Yeares

Item my Will and mind is that if either or any of my said three Daughters Shall dye and depart this life before She or they Shall attain to her or their Ages of one and twenty Years as aforesaid that then the part and Share of her or them so dying Shall be equally divided between and amongst the Survivors or Survivor of my said three Daughters who shall live to attain the age aforesaid

Item I give and devise unto my Said Eldest Son Edward Baker the Sume of twenty pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto him by my Executrix hereinafter named at his age of one and twenty Yeares
Item I give and devise unto my Youngest Son James Baker the Sume of twenty pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto him by my Executrix hereinafter named at his age of one and twenty Yeares
Item my Will and is that if my Said Sons Edward Baker and James Baker or either of them Shall dye and depart this life before the said legacies or Sumes of twenty pounds become payable then the part of him or them so dying Shall be divided between and amongst Such of my Said three Sons Edward, William and James who Shall live to Attain his or their Age or ages aforesaid

Item my will mind and desire is that my said loving Wife Elizabeth Shall be Guardian unto All and evry of my said Six Children during their Sevrall and respective Minorities and Shall have receive and take the rents Issues and profitts of all and Singuler my lands and tenements and the Interest of the moneys hereinbefore given and bequeathed unto them and evry or any of them for and towards their Maintenance and Educacon untill the Same Shal descend or become due and payable to them at the Severall and respective Ages aforesaid according as is hereinbefore menconed

Item as for all the rest residue and remainder of my ready money Goods Ch[att]ells Debts due and owing unto me upon Mortgages Bonds or otherwise and all other my personall Estate whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore bequeathed I give devise and bequeath the Same unto my Said loving Wife Elizabeth She paying my Debts Legacies funerall Expences Charge of proving this my Will and other incident Charges

And I doe hereby nominate and Appoint my Said loving wife Elizabeth whole and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof to this my last Will and Testament Contained in these two Sheets of paper together annexed I the said James Baker the Testator have to the first Sheet thereof Set my hand and to this last Sheet my hand and Seal have sett and putt dated the four and day of March in the Eighth Year of the reign of our Soveraign Lord George by the Grace of God now King of Great Britain &c. James Baker was buried at SS Peter & Paul, Saltwood, Kent on 31 Mar 1722.
Wife Elizabeth Baker was buried at St. Stephen, Lympne with West Hythe, Kent on 1 Dec 1729.
James Baker was bap. 30 Mar 1679, s. of William Baker and Alice (nee Jones) at Saltwood.
James Baker married Elizabeth Norrington (d. of Michael & Mary) on 5 Nov 1704 at Saltwood.
They had five known children, all bap. at Saltwood: Edward Baker 20 Mar 1705-76; William Baker Oct 1707–71; Mary Baker 13 Nov 1709; Elizabeth Baker 10 Aug 1712; Susanna Baker 6 May 1716 & James Baker 28 May 1719-58.
