In the name of God Amen I Stephen Baker of the parish of Saltwood in the County of Kent, Yeoman, being Sick and weak of Body but of sound and perfect Mind and Memory (Thanks be Almighty God) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in maner and form following, revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Will and Wills heretofore by me made and declared either by Word or in Writing and desiring and appointing that this only be taken for my last Will and Testament
and first being heartily Sorry for my Sins past most humbly desireing Forgiveness of the same, I commit my Soul to Almighty God my Creator trusting to be saved through the Merits of Jesus Christ and my Body I commit to the Earth to be buried in such decent christian manner as my Executrix hereafter named shall seem meat(sic) and convenient and as to the Disposal of that temporal Estate (both real and personal) which it hath pleased God to bestow upon me

I give and bequeath unto my Sister Susan the Wife of John Partridge the Sum of One Shilling of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her by my Executrix hereinafter named within one Month next after my Decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my Brother Robert Baker the like Sum of one shilling of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto him by my Executrix hereinafter named within one Month next after my Decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Catherine my dear and welbeloved Wife all that my Messuage or Tenement and Garden lying and being in the Town and Port of Hyth(e) in the said County and Saltwood aforesaid or one of them and now or late in the Tenure or Occupation of Robert Lepper or his Assigns and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever and all other my real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever it lyes

Item my Will and Mind is that all my just Debts shall be duly paid and all the residue of my Household stuff, Plate, Money, Goods, Chattells and other personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever to be found (after my said Debts paid and my Funeral Expences and the Charge of proving this my last Will and Testament discharged) I give and bequeath the same unto my said dear Wife Catherine whom I make the sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said Stephen Baker have hereunto set and put my Hand and Seal dated the Fourteenth day of June in the Eighth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the Grace of God now King of Great (Britain) and so forth an(d) in the Year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty Four

Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Stephen Baker for and as his last Will and Testamt. [Testament] in the presence of us whose Names are hereunto subscribed as Witnesses and then attested by Us in the Presence of the said Testator

The before registered Will of Stephen Baker late of Saltwood in the Diocese of Canterbury deceased was proved the 10th Day of May 1735 before William Gostling, Clerk, Surrogate to the Worshipfull Richard Chicheley, Doctor of Laws, Commissary General of the City and Diocese of Canterbury lawfully deputed and Administration of the said deceased’s Goods so far as concern the said deceased and his Will was committed to Catherine Baker, Widow of the deceased and Executrix named in the said Will, she being first sworn duly to administer the same.

Stephen Baker was buried at St. Leonard, Hythe, Kent on 25 Apr 1735.
Stephen was the son of Robert and Anne Baker, baptised at Saltwood 20 Mar 1697/98.
Stephen Baker married Catherine Leper 19 Apr 1726 at SS Peter & Paul, Saltwood.
Catherine Baker, widow, married William Dawkins 1 Oct 1737 at Saltwood.
Sister Susan Baker (bapt. 1702) married John Partridge 3 Oct 1725, St. Leonard, Hythe.
