In the Name of God Amen
I John Bates of Bapchild in the County of Kent Labourer being in an indifferent state of bodily health but of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding (praised be Almighty God for the same) Do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say)

I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charlotte the wife of Thomas Court a chest of draws to be delivered to her by my Executor hereinafter named within one month next after my decease

I give and bequeath the use and possession of all and every my goods chattles plate linen and china (except the said chest of draws so by me before given and bequeathed to my said daughter Charlotte) and the interest proceed and dividends of all and every my Rights credits debts ready money securities for money and monies in the publick Stocks or funds (from and after payment of all my just debts funeral expences the charges of proving this my last Will and Testament and other incident charges and expences) unto my loving wife Elizabeth for and during the term of her natural Life

And from and immediately after her decease Then I give and bequeath all and every my said goods chattles plate linen and china (except as aforesaid) and all and every my said rights credits debts ready money securities for money monies in the publick stocks or funds and personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind sort or quality soever the same shall be and consist unto my three Children namely the said Charlotte the wife of Thomas Court, George Bates and Ann the wife of Edward Hodge their Executors and administrators equally share and share alike to be paid assigned transferred and delivered to them respectively by my said Executor within six months next after the decease of my said wife

I hereby make name institute and appoint my good friend Robert Busbridge of Minster in the Isle of Sheppey in the said County Grazier sole Executor of this my said last Will and Testament
And I hereby revoke disannul and make void all former and other Will and Wills and other Testamentary Dispositions by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament

In witness whereof I the said John Bates the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in one sheet of paper set and affixed my hand and seal this twenty seventh day of March in the thirty seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c. and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Bates the Testator to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us the witnesses hereunder written

Robert Busbridge the sole Executor named in this Will was duly sworn as usual
And that the goods chattels and credits do not amount in value to the sum of one hundred pounds
