In the name of God Amen; The nyneteenth day of August Anno dini 1647 and in the three and twentieth yeare of the raigne of our Souraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith
I John Blaxland of the parrish of Minster in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Yeoman being in strength and perfect memory (God be praysed therefore) doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner & forme followeing
First I bequeath my Soule into the hands of almighty God my maker hopeing and assuredly trusting through the merrits of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to receave remission and pardon for all my sinnes and life everlasting And my body I comend unto the earth from whence it came to be buried in decent sort in the p[ar]ish Church or Chancell of Minster aforesaid

Item I give and bequeath unto the poore of the pish of Minster the Sume of five pounds to be distributed amongst them within halfe a yeare after my decease by and at the discretion of my executors hereafter named
Item I give and bequeath unto the poore of St. Nicholas Atwade the sume of forty shillings;
And to the poore of Manson [Manston] in the parrish of St. Laurence xxs [20s];
And to the poore of Acols [Acol] in the parrish of Birchington willow wood xxs
all of good & lawfull English money to be distributed by my executors w[i]thin half a yeare after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto John Blaxland the sume of five poundes to be payed him at such tyme as my sonne Stephen Blaxland shall attayne to th[e ]age of one and twentie yeares
And yf my sonne Stephen or myself shall renew the moyetie of my Lease of Alan Grange (houlding of the Deane and Chapter of Christ Church Canterbury) Then my will is that my sonne Stephen shall at his age of one and twenty yeares or within six moneths after pay unto my sonne John Blaxland the summe of two hundred poundes of good and lawfull money of England as aforesaid by my executors

Item I bequeath unto myne daughter Katherine the wife of Nicholas Chuny Clarke the sume of five poundes to be payed by my execut[or] when my sonne Stephen shall attaine to thage of one and twenty yeares
And my executor to pay her that sixteen pounds the yeare halfe yearly to be payed at our Lady [day] & Mich[aelm]as w[hi]ch is th[e] use of CC li [£200] in my hands for the provision or Jointure of my daughter Katherine and her Children

And yf my sonne Chuny lay downe fowre hundred pounds to this CC li wch maketh six hundred pounds and wch my executors consent & likeing doe purchase free lands or leases and make that lands or leases soe purchased over to my daughter Katherine and for her heyres forever according to advice of learned Councell in the lawe, That then my executor shall pay towards that purchase the said two hundred pounds

And my executors to require the articles of agreem[en]t sealed to him by me, of the sixteene pound the yeare to cease and she to receave the revenue of the purchase of DC li [£600] to her use and her husband dureing his n[atu]rall life and then to her and her heires forever according to our agreement verified in the articles
And yf Nicholas Chuney her husband depart this life before my daughter and noe purchase made as beforesaid then the CC li to be payd to my daughter Katherine his wife & her Childe or Children
But yf my daughter depart this life & have no Child Then the CC li to be payed by my Executors to my sonne Mr. Nicholas Chuney

Item I give and bequeath unto my wives sonne Raph Emptage the summe of twenty pounds to be payed him by my executors when my sonne Stephen shall attayne to thage of one & twenty yeares
Item I give and bequeath unto my brother Henry Blaxland five pounds And I forgive him the debt of Fyftie pounds wch I stand bound for him to the heyres of John Bradster late deceased wch my will is my executors shall pay
And I give and bequeath unto Paule Blaxland my brothers sonne at his age of one and twenty yeares the summe of twenty pounds
Alsoe I give to my brothers daughters now liveing ten poundes a peece at their age of twenty yeares All to be payed by my executors

Item I give and bequeath unto John Hilde the sonne of John Hilde of Deale my godson the summe of five pounds at his age of one and twenty yeares to be payed by my executors
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Frances Blaxland the sume of five hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be payed to her at her age of twenty yeares or at her day of marriage wch God shall please may happen first to be payed by my executors and twenty pounds a yeare till she is of age quarterly to be payed her

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Stephen Blaxland my tenem[en]t at Acole willow wood in the parrish of Birchington being a dwelling house, kitchen & barne wth all the lands thereunto belonging conteyning six Acres more or lesse wch I did purchase of Thomas Culmer to be myne after the death of the wife of Solomon Legitt
And I give my sonne Stephen one Acre of land wch I did purchase of William Loy of Acole lyeing in Acole aforesaid adjoyning to the lands late the wife of Legite to the South

Item I give and bequeath my moyetie of the Lease of Alen Grange [Alland Grange] unto my sonne Stephen, he paying to his mother Sibill Blaxland twenty pounds the yeare during her nrall life
Item yf it shall please God my sonne Stephen shall depart this life before he attayne to the age of one and twenty yeares That then my will is That my loveing wife Sibill Blaxland shall have my part of the Lease of Alen Grange dureing her naturall life, she paying my debts and legacies
And after the tyme that my sonne Stephen should have attayned to one and twenty yeares after that tyme to pay to my sonne John Blaxland Fourtie pounds the yeare half yearly and to kepe the lease renewed

And after the decease of my wife my will is that my sonne John Blaxland shall have my part or moyetie of my lease of Alin Grange my sonne John payeing five hundred pound to my daughter Frances and all other debts and legacies
But if my sonne John soe shall depart this pr[e]sent life and have noe sonne Then my will is that my daughter Frances Blaxland shall enjoy my moyetie of Alin Grange And yf the lease be renewable my will is yf it should soe come to my daughter Frances Blaxland that she shall pay to my Sonnes daughters a hundred pounds apeece at twenty yeares of their age or at their day of marriage wch shall first happen

Item I give and bequeath unto Sibill my loveing wife two beds furnished wch shee pleaseth to take and alsoe what lynnen, brasse and pewter she shall think fitt to take for her owne use; and alsoe what plate shee pleaseth desiring her after her decease to bestowe it betwixt my 2 children Stephen Blaxland and Frances Blaxland as shee shall think fitt

Item I give and bequeath unto Sibill Blaxland my loveing wife the sume of a hundred pounds to be payed to her by my Sonne Stephen Blaxland at his age of one and twenty yeares or within three moneths after besides the CC li wch by ye condicon of marriage I am bound to pay her
Alsoe my will is that my wife shall have to her owne use at Alin Grange wch chamber she shall please to make choyce of for her lodging Chamber dureing her life if my sonne Stephens right shall continue there soe long And alsoe my wives dyet that is to say meate & drinke and washing, as alsoe for her maid servant if Sibill my loveing wife desire to keepe one dureing her nrall life
Item I give & bequeath to my grandchilde Sibill Blaxland twenty pounds to be payed her at eighteene years old

Item I doe constitute ordaine & make Stephen Blaxland my sonne and Sibill Blaxland my loveing wife executors to this my last will & testament desireing they wilbe carefull to see this my last will & testamt in all things p[er]formed according to my true intent and meaning before herein expressed

In Witnes whereof I the said John Blaxland Sen [Senior] to this my last will and testamt my hand & seale have sett dated the day & yeare first above written; the three & twenty words were interlyned before this sealing hereof

A Codicill annexed to the last will & testamt of John Blaxland of Minster in the Isle of Thanett and County of Kent Yeoman being sick & weake in bodie but of good & pfect minde & memory (praised be God) doe make and declare this Codicill to be added to my said will beareing date the nynteenth day of August Anno dini 1649
Item wch I further give & bequeath in mannr & forme following (that is to say)

Imprimis I give and bequeath unto Stephen Blaxland my sonne three messuage or tenemts scituate lyeing & being in Minster aforesaid lately purchased of Thomas Brunt of Minster aforesd. and two acres & a rod of land lyeing at Acoll in the pish of Birchington & lately purchased of one William Loge of Acoll aforesaid dec[ease]d All wch sevrall tents. & lands are nowe in the sevrall occupacons of William East Burch Taylor, Thomas Brunt and the widdowe of William Log aforesaid to him & his heyres forever

Item Whereas I have given & bequeathed in my said last will hereunto annexed unto my sonne John Blaxland two hundred pounds of lawfull money of England wth provisoe thereupon that in Case I or my sonne Stephen Blaxland shall come the moyetie of my lease of Allin Grange houlden of the Deane & Chapter of Christ Church Canterbury to be payed unto him when my said sonne Stephen shall unto the full age of one and twenty yeares or within six moneths next after
Now my will and meaneing is that the said CC li [£200] given as aforesayd (in case the said lease shalbe renewed as is above specified) shalbe well & truly payed unto Sibill Blaxland my grandchild daughter of my sayd sonne John Blaxland when she shall attayne the age of one & twentyie yeares or day of marriage wch shall first happe, to be payed by my sonne Stephen Blaxland one of my executors menconed in the said will

Item I request my loveing brother in lawe John Tomlyn and my loveing friend John Humfrett to be overseers of this my last will desireing them to be ayding and assisting to my said executors

Note: John Blaxland, Yeoman, Widower, married Sibylla Emptage, widow of Ralph Emptage, both of St. Nicholas at Wade on 5th May 1632 at St. Nicholas at Wade.
