blew gowne wch I geve unto Elisabeth Boteler my wife)
Item I geve unto my said sonne Richard twentie pounds of laufull mony of England and my young Bay gelding called Bay durrant wth saddle and
bridle thereunto belonging
Item I give unto Ursula Grene my sisters daughter Fortie shillings when he shall accomplishe the age of one and twentie yeres
Item I geve unto Danyell Pawson the sonne of Thomas Pawson my nister? twentie shillings of laufull mony of England
Item I give unto Sybbell Syms & Dorothy Webb my wyves Sisters to eache of them in token of my remembrance one angell of gold to make eche

Item I give to Martha Master the wife of Mr. Jeames Master sonne of the same Jeames Master my godsonne fyfetene shillings, to be converted
and ymployed for & to his use into a littell trencher sault wthin thre yeres after my death

Item I bequeth unto my god daughter Mary Johnson Daughter of Mathue of Dovor ten shillings to be paid her when she shall come to the age
of sixtene yeres
Allso I give unto the wyfe of Mr. Thomas Fynens of Huffeham gent an angell of gold
And allso unto my godsonne John Fynenes his sonne fyvetene shillings to be converted unto a trencher sault and to be delivered hym at
his age of nyne yeres
Item I give unto Elisabeth Lee my sister the wyfe or John Lee of Sandwch Jurat twentie shillings of laufull mony of England
Item I give unto her two sonnes Robart Lee and Thomas Lee to eche of them sixe shillings eight pence at their sevrall ages of one and

and to Amy her daughter the wyfe of John Page of Sandwch Grocer ten shillings wthin one yere after my death
Item I give unto my Sister Margaret Saltanstole the wyfe of John Saltanstole twentie shillings To be paid her wthin one yere after my death
And also I bequeth unto Sara Saltanstole her daughter thre shillings fower pence
And to Elisabeth Owene an other of her daughters other thre shillings fower pence
To be payd wth the porcon therfore geven to their mother wthin one yere after my decease
Item my mynd and will is that all the rest of my goods & cattell not bequeathed & plate shalbe wthin fowertene dayes next after my death Inventared {Inventoried] By Mr. Thomas Boys, Mr. Vincent Boys and Mr. Thomas Newson and by them appoynted to remayne together wthout sep[ar]acon or dimiscion, in & to to my now mansion howse by the space of fower yeres after my death to the uses and occupyed as before tyme end use and occupie by the same my said wyfe one Inventary therof, my sonne Richard Boteler an other
And the said Thomas Boys, Vincent Boys and Thomas Newson an other During and by all wch
fower yeres my will is that my said wyfe And Richard Boteler my sonne shall joyntly have hold and
occupie my said howse wth the Frame [farm] and land thereunto belonging And in the ende of the
said fower yeares I will that aswell the goods & cattell and plate before spesyfied, as also the
revenews of my whole lands together wth the increase comodytyes and pr[o]fitts that shall
grow & aryse by the tillege and occupying of my lands aforesaid (all chargs of house keping
and all other things thereinto belonging deducted & allowed) shalbe audited? and divided equally in
the parts by the said Thomas Boys, Vincent Boys and Thomas Newson or by two of them yf they shalbe then lyving
And yf their shall not be two of the said persons lyving then by such other as by my said wife and
sonne Richard shalbe appointed and thought mete, whereof one part to remayne unto my said sonne
Richard And two partes unto my said wyfe and William Boteler and John Boteler Two other my sonnes
Provided allwayes and my will is that my standing bedsted in the greate chamber wth the grene and redd say curtens and best coverlet thereunto belonging one of the great new chist in the same Chamber One Cipres [Cypress] wher I use to lye and the bedstedle their wth the truckell bed The great long table in the parlor and stooles belonging to the same and the Cubbord there wthall man[ne]r utensills & Brewing vesssells in my brewhouse shall stand and remayne unto my said mansion howse and to him unto whome I shall hereafter give the said house, wthout any p[ar]ticon or devision
Also I will that after thend & expiracon of the said fower yeres my said wyfe shall have her dwelling in my new builded house at Harnden by the space of fower other yeres from thence next ensewing together wth the orchard and garden thereunto belonging, My said sonne Richard Boteler enioying the one halfe of the fruyt yerely growing and coming in the said orchard and having his resonable use in the brewhouse for his necessary brewing
And I do by this pnts ordayne and appoint my said wyfe and Richard Boteler my sonne Joynt Executors of this my present testament and last will
And John Lee, Jurat of Sandwch my overseer to se(e) this my testament and last will truly pformed

This is the last will of me the said Henry Boteler made the day and yere abovesaid as touching the disposcon of all my lands & tenements whatsoever
First I will and geve unto my said sonne Richard Boteler all the lands & tenements wth
thappurtenanncs [the appurtenances] wch by dede of gyfte or Feoffement I lately had to me & my
heyres from his mother my first wyfe lying and being in the sevrall pishes of St. Clements in Sandwch and Eastry in the countie of Kent
And also one ten[emen]te and garden wth thappurtenanncs scituat and being in the pishe of St. Peters in Sandwch aforesaid in the occupacon of
Father Cowlaimre? & his assignes To be had & holden to the same Richard Boteler and to the heyres male of his bodye
laufully begotten for ever And for want of suche issue to remayne unto the heyres of me the said Henry Boteler for ever
Also I give unto the said Richard Boteler and to the heyre male of his bodye laufully coming my
mansion house at Hardenden in the said pishe of Eastry wth the Farme howse and Efifices owt houses
orchards & gardens & buyldings whatsoever thereunto belonging Together wth all the lands to the
same belonging lying and being in the sevrall pishes of Eastry & Norborne in the sayd countie of Kent
And yf my sayd Richard my sonne shall dye wthout yssue male of his bodye laufully begotten Then
I will the said mansion howse Edifes buyldings owt howses orchards gardens and lands unto
Willia Boteler my sonne and to the heire male of his bodye laufully coming
And yf it shall please God that both my said sonnes shall dye wthout yssue male of ther bodyes as is aforesaid
Then I will the said mansion house buyldings and other prmiss [premises] aforesaid unto John Boteler
my sonne and to the heire male of his bodye laufully coming, and yf it please God all my said sonnes
shall dye wthout yssue male as aforesaid, Then I will the said manrion house Buyldings lands & other
the said prmiss to remayne unto the next of kindred to me the said Henry Boteler for ever
Item I geve unto the said Richard Boteler my barne and dovehouse & other edifices wth all the lands thereunto belonging scituat lying and being in the pishe of Worde [Worth] in the occupacon of the wyddowe of Stephen Gibbs and her assignes To be had & holden unto the same Richard and the heyres male of his bodye laufully coming And for want of yssue male I will the same unto my sonne Willia Boteler and his heyres male And for want of yssue male of the said Willia as aforesaid I will the same Barne lands & other prmisses unto John Boteler & the heyres male of his bodye laufully coming And for want of such yssue male of the said John Boteler Then I will the said prmisses to remayne unto the next of kindred unto me the said Henry Boteler for ever
Provided alwayes and my will is that my said sonne Richard shall not receave any profytt or comodyty to his owne p[ro]per use by vertue of my gifts aforesaid of any of the lands & tents before willed hym untill thende and expiracon of fower yeres abovesaid next after my death
And also (by consent & agrement had betwene me & my sayd wyfe) my minde & will is that my said wyfe shall not [blank] and receave her dower or Joynter [Jointure] gyven her by me out of divers my lands & tenements in Sandwch , Eastry and Woodnesborough untill thend of the said fower yeres But shall p[er]mitt and suffer the same to come out as other my lands to be accompted & used during the said Fower yeres by the psons aforesaid thereunto appointed as before for division is lymitted
Item I give unto my sonne Willm Boteler and the heyres male of his bodye laufully coming my
mansion house called Powlton wth all the lands & rents belonging to the same scituate lying & being
in the pishe of Wodnesborough aforesaid now in the tenure and occupacon of John Ussher and others
Also I give unto the same Willm my new house wth thapptenncs scituat and being
in the pishe of St. Maryes in Sandwch nere unto Mr. Jeames Master his maulthouse And fowertene
acres of pasture ground lying & being in the pish of Wodnesborough onthe north side of the causey
[causeway?] there, whereof eight acres are in the occupson of the wyddowe of Jeoffery Osborne and
sixe acres in the occupacon of Jacob Loy? a stranger, To have and to hold to the said Willm Boteler and the heyres male of the same
Willm laufully coming And for want of suche yssue to remayne unto the heyres male of me the said Henry Boteler for ever
Item I give unto my sonne John Boteler and to the heyres male of his body laufully coming my
house & lands thereunto belonging wthall & singuler their apptenanncs scituat lying and being at
Hackling in the pishe of Worde now in the occupacon of John & Richard Penny
Also I give unto my sonne John Boteler my principall messuage or tente. wth thapptenanncs scituat in Stronde Streete in Sandwch aforesaid in the
pishe of St. Maryes in the occupacon of Thomas Aldey, Taylor & others
And also one other tente with thapptenncs situat in the said Strond streate & pishe of St. Maryes sometyme Johan Peirs
And also my fower littell Tents. wth thapptenncs scituat and being in the said pishe of St. Maryes in a certen strete leading up to the Bowling
Alley in the occupacon of Momers widowe and divers dutch peopell And also nyne acres of pasture ground lying on the South
syde of the causey? there in the pishe of Wodnesborough now in the occupacon of Willm Jacob,
To be had & holden to the same John Boteler and the heyres males of hos bodye laufully
coming And for want of suche yssue I will all the said prmisses unto my next heyres for ever
Item I will and give unto my said sonne Willm Boteler & his heyres male as beforesayd my Tents wth the apperteananncs scituat at Butchery Corner in the pishe of St. Maryes in Sandwch aforesaid now in the occupacon of my brother John Saltanstole condicionally not wthstanding that the said John Saltanstole (for the yerely rent he now payeth) shall hold and occupye the same so long as he will occupie ye same
Item I give unto my said sonne Richard Boteler two peces of pasture ground lying on the South syde of the Causey ther in the occupacon of Richard Pattmer contayneth ij acres and a halfe, And the other in the occupacon of Adrian Cok conteyneth by estimacon Fyve yards To have & to hold the said ij peces of pasture ground unto the said Richard & the heyres male of his bodye laufully coming And for want (of) such yssue, unto the next heyres of me the said Henry Boteler for ever

Canvas Sheets: A kind of unbleached cloth made of hemp or flax, used for hard wearing items such as shirts and aprons, it was not like the
modern cotton canvas of today but of a coarser woven natural coloured cloth which could be made in several different qualities and sometimes
trimmed.
