Item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of the parish of Barham the sum of 10 pence. And likewise to the poor people of the parish of Elham the sum of 10 pence.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anne the sum of three score pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her, her - -------- or assigns when she shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years by my executor
Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Brett, Stephen Brett,
Nicholas Brett, and Edward Brett my sons to each of them the sum
of fifty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto them
or either of them when they shall attain to their said all respective
ages of one and twenty years by my executor.
And if either of my said four sons shall fortune to decease this life before the said age
of one and twenty years then my will and meaning is that the
survivors of them shall have the portion of him or them deceasing
equally shared among them.
The residue of all my goods and chattels ---------- my debts being paid, my legacies and funeral expenses discharged, I give and bequeath unto Mary my wellbeloved wife towards the education and bringing up of my children whom I make sole executrix of this my testament and last will.
This is the last will and testament of me the said Giles Brett made declared the day and year above said touching and -------- all and singular my lands and tenements with apportionments situated lying and being in Elham in the said county of Kent.
First I give and bequeath unto the said Mary my wife all my land called
Soleground --------- upon ------- hold the same----------- until Gyles
Brett my son shall attain his age of one and twenty towards his and
my other children�s bringing up.
And immediately after the said Gyles shall attain his age of one and twenty years, I give and
bequeath the said land called Soleground with apportionments unto
the said Gyles Brett my son his heirs and assigns forever.
Moreover my will and meaning is that the said Gyles Brett my son
and his heirs shall immediately after he shall accomplish his said
age of 21 years. Yearly and every year during the naturel life of the
said Mary my wife shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto
her and her assigns out of the said land called Soleground an
annuity --------- of six pounds of lawful money of England at two
feasts or terms in the year that is to say at the feast of St Michael
the archangel and the Annunciation of our blessed Lady Mary the
Virgin by equal portions the first payment -------- to begin and be
made at that feast of the first aforesaid which shall next happen
after the said Gyles shall attain his age aforesaid of 21 years.
And if the said Annuity or yearly ------ shall be behind or unpaid in part
or in all, then it shall be lawful for the said Mary and her assigns to
the said land called Soleground to enter and distrain the ------- and
keep until it shall be satisfied and paid.
Item I give and bequeath unto the said Mary my wife my
messuage, tenement and land--------------------- at------------------
in the said parish of Elham until Thomas my son shall attain his
full age of 21 years towards his education and bringing up
And immediately from and after the said Thomas shall accomplish his
age of 21 years for and during all the time and for --------- at the
said Mary shall live and continue a widow he keeping all the -------
------------. And immediately from and after the death or marriage
of the said Mary ------------- the said messuge or tenement and
lands or herediments at -------------- unto my said son Thomas his
heirs and assigns forever.
Nevertheless my will is that Mary my wife shall well and trult paid unto the said Thomas
my son after he shall accomplish the age of 21 years out of the said messusges
tenements and lands the sum of four pounds by the year of lawful
money of England at two feasts or terms in the year. That is to say
at the feast of St Michael the archangel and the Annunciation of
our blessed Lady Mary the virgin by equal portions. The first
payment -------- to begin and be made in ------ that feast of the
feast aforesaid shall not happen after the said Thomas shall
accomplish his age of 21 years.
And if default of payment shall be
made then it shall be lawful for the said Thomas or his assigns to
enter the said messuage or tenement land or apportionment and
distrain And the difference to be held or kept until he shall be satisfied and paid
