Will of William Briggs

In the Name of God Amen. I William Briggs of the Parish of Boughton Malherb in the County of
Kent Husbandman : Being sick of Body but of perfect & sound Memory, Thanks be given to God for
it; Therefore calling to mind the Mortallity of my Body & knowing that it is appointed for all Men
once to Dye : Doe Make and ordain this My Last Will and Testament; That is to say Principally; And
first of all I recommend My Soul into the hands of God that gave it And my Body I recomend to the
earth to be buried in decent Christian Buriall Att the Discretion of my Executors Not Doubting but att
the general Resurrection I shall Receive the same again by the Mighty power of God; And as touching
such worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased Allmighty God to Bless me with in this Life : I give
Devise and dispose of in Manner and form as followeth
Item I give unto Eldest Son William Briggs the sum of five shilling of good & lawfull Mony of
England to be paid to him in six Months after my Decease by my Executors her after named
Item I give unto my Daughter Jane Briggs wife of John Town of Staplehurst in the County
aforesaid five shillings of good and Lawfull mony of England to be paid in six months after my decease
Item And all the Rest of my goods I give unto my Son Robert Briggs and Jane my Loving Wife
after my depts and funeral Expenses are Discharged Whome I make full and sole Executors of this
My Last will and Testament
In witness hereof I have sett my hand & seal this fourteenth day of January in the year of our Lord God 1723/4
