Will of John Buttery

of Woolwich, Kent

I do hereby give and bequeath unto my executors and trustees hereinafter named all that my leasehold messuage and premises known as the �Gun Tavern� in New Road Woolwich aforesaid and all other my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever of which I may die possessed upon trust as soon as conveniently may be after my decease to sell and dispose of the same either by public auction or private contract for the best price or prices that can be obtained for the same the receipts of my said executors and trustees for the purchase monies to be a sufficient discharge to any purchaser

And after payment of all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expences I direct that my said executors and trustees shall invest one third part of the surplus arising from such sale or sales as aforesaid in their own names in the three pounds per centum Consolidated Bank annuities and shall pay the interest and dividends thereof unto my Wife Hannah Buttery for and during the term of her natural life

and after the decease of my said Wife I direct that the said one third part of the said surplus and the stocks funds and securities upon which the same shall be so invested shall be divided in equal portions between and amongst my daughter Jane the Wife of John Higgs of Rotherhithe in the County of Surrey Lighterman and my son John Thomas Buttery for their own absolute use and benefit absolutely

And I direct my said executors and trustees shall pay and divide the remaining two third parts of the said surplus arising from any sales as aforesaid unto and equally between my said daughter and son

And I direct that my share and interest taken by my said daughter under this my Will shall be so taken by her free from and independent of the debts controul and engagements of her present or any future husband

and I hereby nominate constitute and appoint John Hammond of Powis Street Woolwich aforesaid aforesaid Victualler Thomas Hancock of Land Street Woolwich aforesaid Beer Shop Keeper and my said son John Thomas Buttery Executors and Trustees of this my Will

And hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time made I the said John Buttery the Testator have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of November in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven _ John Buttery
