In the Name of God Amen I Robert Chaplin in the Parish of Stroud in the County of Kent being in bodily Health and of sound and disposing Mind and Memory and considering the Perils and Dangers of the Seas and other Uncertainties of this transitory Life (do for avoiding controversies after my decease) make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following (That is to say) First I recommend my Soul to God that gave it, and my Body I commit to the Earth or Seas as it shall please God to Order and as for and concerning all my worldly Estate I give bequeath and dispose thereof as followeth. That is to say

I give and bequeath to my Brother Thomas Chaplin all such Wages, sum and sums of Money, Lands, Tenements, Goods, Chattels and Estate whatsoever as shall be any ways due owing or belonging unto me at the time of my decease I do give and bequeath the same unto the aforesaid Thomas Chaplin.

And I do hereby nominate and appoint the said Thomas Chaplin Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills, Testaments and Deeds of Gifts, by me at any time heretofore made. And I do ordain and ratify these Presents, to stand and be for, and as my only last Will and Testament.

In Witness whereof to this my said Will I have set my Hand & Seal the fourth Day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand and Seven Hundred and Ninety three And in the Thirty Third Year of the Reign of his Majesty King George the Third over Great Britain &c.

The above preprinted form Will was addressed to Mr Thomas Chaplin, Shoemaker, Maidstone, Kent and franked Portsmouth.

Dear Brother
I nowe sent you as made upon the preceding page My last Will & Testament which Entitles you to a sole right and power over all my Goods and effects or whatever Wages may be due me as sailor on Board the Kent East India Man bound for Bengal by the Honourable East India Company.

Thomas Chaplin the Brother of the deceased and the sole Executor within named was duly sworn as usual & the Effects of the deceased do not amount in value to the Sum of Twenty pounds.

Testator? Robert Chaplin was late a Seaman belonging to the East India Merchant Ship Kent and died at Calcutta in November 1793.

This Will was proved on the 20th day of Nov�r in the year of our Lord 1794 before the Wor�ful Thomas Champion Crespigny Dr of Laws Sur�te by the Oath of Thos Chaplin the brother of the dece�d & the sole Ex�or to whom Adm�on was granted being Sworn duly to adm�er.
