In the name of God Amen this seaven and Twentyth day of December in the 23th yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God of England, Scotland, Frannce and Ireland, king defender of the Faith &c,
I Robert Clayton of Milsted in the County of Kent, Clerke, being weake in body but of sound and perfect memory (Praysed bee god) doe make and declare this my Testament conteyning therein my last will in manner and forme followinge That is to say
First and above all thinges I Commend my Sowle into the handes of Allmighty God my Creator and blessed Redeemer, steadfastly beleevinge to have Remission and fogivenesse of all my sinnes through the alonne merritts of my Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the Earth to bee decently interred after the manner of christian burial

Item I give and bequeath unto the Poore People of this Parish of Milsted �5
Item I doe give and remitt unto my Nephew Thomas Walton Cittizen of London �50 which hee oweth mee, withowt specialtye And whereas hee the said Thomas Walton oweth mee �100 more by two severall bonds or obligacons, I doe will and bequeath one of the sayd bonds with the moneys thereuppon due to me to John Walton brother of the said Thomas And the other bond or Obligacon with the money thereuppon due, I will and bequeath unto my Syster Heald yf shee bee livinge and yf not then to her Children equally to bee devided amongst them And my will ys that my Executor hereafter named shall deliver upp the sayd bonds and make them Lees of Attorney or otherwise enable them to Renewe the sayd moneys and to Recover ytt

And whereas my Cozen William Hewett did heretofore owe mee the somme of �40 to my Executors for the use of my daughter, they shall deliver upp and relecye unto him such securitys as I have of him for yt

Item I give unto my Sister Wheatland All my howshowldstuffe (except sixe Joynd stooles and a Forme at my Cozen Tildens) and �5 in money
Item I give unto Mr Lane, Minister of Bredgar, All my books and �10 in money
Item I give to Mr Houghton, minister of Bicknor, my best gowne
Item I give unto my Cozen Dawlyng minister of Frensted 50 shillings and him I desire to preach att my burial
Item I give unto Mrs Toke of Milstead a 22s peece of gowld and 5 shillings in Silver
And to her daughter Anne a 22s peece of gold

Item I give unto my loving Cozen Mr Richard Tilden the sixe Joynd stooles and the Forme aforemencioned and to my Cozen his wife a 22s peece of gold and 5 shillings in Silver
Item I give to William, Richard and John Tilden, the sonnes of the sayd Mr Richard Tilden, to each of them a 22s peece of gold
Item I give unto Mrs Anne Toke and Elizabeth Tilden his daughters, to each of them a 22s peece of gold

Item I give unto my Cozen Mrs Lambe �5 towards putting forth one of her Children Apprentice
Item I give unto the widdowe Summens 20 shillings
Item I give unto Elizabeth Haslewood the wife of George Haslewood 20 shillings
Item I give unto John Gardener 10 shillings
Item I give unto Elizabeth Spencer 10 shillings
Item I give unto my Cozen Tildens Manservant John Dawstone 10 shillings
Item I give unto his two Maydservantes Ursula Wood and Bennet Rayner 10 shillings a peece

Item all the residue of my goodes and Chattells whatsoever (my debts and Legacyes being payd and Funeralls dischardged) I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Clayton

And I doe make and ordaine my three loveing freindes and Cozens Mr Richard Tilden, Mr James Tonge Th�elder of Baxon and Mr Richard Dawling Executors of this my last will and Testament earnestly intreating and desiring them to bee carefull in the Education of my daughter whom I Chardg and Enioyne to bee wholly governed and directed by them during her minoritye and especially that she doe not offer to marry before she shall atteyne her full age of one and Twenty yeares without the Consents and good liking of my Executors or of twoe of them att the least
And yf my daughter shall presume to marry before that age without their Consents and appprobacion that then shee shall have noe benefit of this my will or of any part of the Legacye and Porcion before given her
And that then and allsoe, in case she shall happen to dye before that time unmarryed (after my debts and other Legacyes aforementioned shalbee payd, my daughters Education and my Executors chardges and expences deducted and dischardged) I will and bequeath all the Remaynder of my goodes and estate unto the Children of my late Sister Walton, the Children of my sayd Sister Heald and the Children of my Cozen Jane Hawett, wife of the aforesaid William Hawett or soe many of them as shall then bee livinge, equally to bee devided amongst them

In wittnesse whereof, I the sayd Robert Clayton have hereunto sett my hand and Seale by subscribinge my name to the two first sheetes and my name and my Seale affixed to this third and last sheete of this my will dated the day and yeare above written 1647 Robert Clayton.

Thomas Bourne, William Rucke.
