In nome dei Amen Primo die maij AO Regnie Elizabethe vicesimo quarto [1 May 1582]
I Henry Cock th'elder of Ashe nexte Sandwch in the Countye of Kent Yeoman Being sycke of bodye But of perfect memory (thankes be to God) do make my last will and Testament in maner and forme following, Viz.
Fyrst I comende my Soule to God And my bodye to be buryed in the Churcheyard of Ashe aforesaid

Item I geve to the poore mens boxe of Ashe a ijs
Item I geve and bequeathe to eyther of my two sonnes Henry and Jeames twenty and fyve poundes of lawfull money of England a pece to be paid when they shall come and accomplishe thier severall age or ages (of) twenty and one yeares And yf it shall happen any of them to decease before the age of xxj yeres Then my will is his p[ar]te or porcon so dying shall remayne to the survivour to be paid at his age of xxj yeres

Item I geve to Susan my daughter Sixetene poundes of Currant mony of England to be paid unto her when she shall come and accomplishe her age of xviij [18] yeres And yf yt shall happen my said daughter to dye before the said age of xviij yeres Then my will is that vli [£5]of her pte or porcon before to her willed shall remayne to Katheryne Mesdaye and the Residue to remayne to my two sonnes

Provided allwayes and my will and mynd is that if it shall happen my two sonnes to decease before they shall accomplishe ther age or ages of xxj yeres Then the ptes and porcons before willed and bequeathed unto them shall remayne to my daughter Susan

And yf all my foresaid thre children Henry, Jeames and Susan shall happen to decease without issue of ther bodyes laufully begotten before they shall accomplishe ther said age or adges before apointed and lymited by this my last will or Testament Then my will and entente is that all the said ptes and porcons shall remayne to Katheryne Mesdaie and the children of my thre brethren betwene them equally to be shifted and devyded

Item I geve to my sonne Henry the joyned bedstedle the fetherbede bolster and the coverlet whereon I now lye, a payre of good sheetts and the greatest brasse pot To be delyvered unto hym presentlye after my wyfes decease
Item I geve to Jeames my sonne my Cubbard and the littell brasse pot to be delyvered unto hym pressently after my wyfes decease
Item I geve to my daughter Susan iij pewter platters and iij pewter dishes and a payre of sheetts To be delyvered unto her presently after my wyfes decease

Item I geve to John Hilles my godsonne an ewe To be delyvered to hym at xvj yeres of age
Item I geve to the daughters of Edward Mesdaye my god daughters a weaning lambe
Item I geve to Henry Mesdaie my godsonne a weaning lambe
Item I geve to the youngest daughter of my brother William Cock ij weaning lambes to be delyvered unto her at her age of xvj yeres

Provided allwayes that my wyfe shall at (her) Cost and charges bring up my said children
And my will is if my wyfe be disposed to marry Then my will and mynd is that she shall with sufficient suretye before mariage seale and delyver to Thomas Gibbs gent[leman] and Jeames Castle or the Survivour of them a good obligacon wth condicon indorsed for the true payment of suche p[ar]tyculer porcons and sumes of money wch are before willed and bequeathed to my thre children and for the bringing of them up at her costs and charges untyll they shall accomplishe ther sevrall aged of xiiij yeres Or els to take no benefyt profytt or advantage by this my last will and Testament

The Residue of all my goods and Chattalls my debts and legacyes p’formed and my funerall expenses discharged geve to Alice my wyfe whome I make my sole executrix of this my last will and Testament
and Thomas Gibbs gent[leman] and Jeames Castle Overseers of the same to whome I geve iij bushells of seade wheate

In witnes that this is my last will or Testament I have caused the same to be written reade and declared and thereto have set my hand and Seale the day and yere first abovewritten in the presence of
Thomas Gibbs, Jeames Castell; Ethelbert Omer, Henrie Harflete, John Paramorr

13 May 1582: Henrye Cocke, howsholder, buryed, St. Nicholas, Ash-next-Sandwich.
Henry Cock married Alyce Cock 2 Aug 1568 at Ash-next-Sandwich.
Their known children (all baptised at Ash): 29 Apr 1571 Elyas (Bu. 19 Jun 1571); 28 Jun 1573 Susan; 18 Nov 1574 Henry; 20 Sep 1579 Mary; 29 Oct 1581 James (Bu. 12 Mar 1583).
Alyce Cocke, widow, was buried at Ash 13 Dec 1592.
