All my Prize Money Wages Sum and Sums of Money Lands Tenements Goods Chattells and Estate
whatsoever as shall be anyways due owing or belonging unto me at the time of my Decease I do
hereby Give Devise and bequeath unto my Mother Mrs. Mary Collard of the Parish of Deal in the Count of Kent
whom I do make Nominate and appoint whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament
hereby revoking and making void all former and other Wills and Bequests by me at
any time heretofore made hereby ratifying and confirming this and no other for and as my Last Will and Testament
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Twenty first Day of July in the Year of
our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety three, And in the thirty third year of the Reign of
His Majesty King George the Third Over Great Britain etc.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Valentine Collard of Teddington in the County of Middlesex Esquire a Rear Admiral in Her Majesty’s Navy
Whereas James Forth of Kingston upon Thames in the County of Surrey Distiller made his Will dated the Twenty second day of June one thousand eight hundred and eighteen executed and attested by law then required for the passing of real estates and he thereby (after bequeathing a specific legacy to his wife Mary Forth) gave devised and bequeathed all the residue and remainder of his estates and effects real and personal of what nature or kind soever unto his Nephew William Harry Kempster now of Number Four Frederick Place Hannington Lane in the said County of Surrey and his friends John Maugham Connell and George Lamburn Greetham Upon trust to convert his personal estate into money and thereout to pay his legacies just debts and funeral and testamentary charges
And Upon trust to invest the surplus in the public funds and to pay the rents and profits of his real estates and the interest and dividends of such funded property to his said wife for her life and after her decease Upon trust as soon as his said Trustees conveniently could to sell his said real estates in the manner in his said Will mentioned and after payment of all incidental expences attending the sale Upon trust to add the surplus to his funded property and to divide the same into two equal parts one of which the said Testator gave and bequeathed unto my late wife his Niece Mary Ann Collard then Mary Ann Kempster her executors administrators and assigns for her own use and benefit and he directed his said Trustees to transfer and assign the same to her accordingly And the said Testator appointed his said Trustees Executors of his said Will
And Whereas the said James Forth departed this life on or about the 12th day of July one thousand
Eight hundred and twenty two and his said Will was soon afterwards duly proved by his said
Executors in the Prerogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury
And Whereas the said Trustees and Executors proceeded in the execution of the said Will and the
trusts thereof and invested the net surplus of the said Testators personal estate in the purchase of
three pounds per Centum Consolidated Bank Annuities in their names and they have sold some parts
of his real estates and have added the proceeds of such sales after payment of the incidental charges to the other funded property
And Whereas the said Mary Forth the Widow of the said Testator departed this life on or about the
fourth day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty five
And Whereas James Williamson of Grays Inn Gentleman has been appointed a Trustee under the
said Will of the said James Forth in the place of the said John Maugham Connell
And Whereas the real and personal estates late of the said James Forth to one moiety of which my
said late Wife became entitled under his said Will as aforesaid now consist of the following
particulars (videlicet) [that is to say] the sum of one thousand six hundred and ninety two pounds
fifteen shillings and three pence (in the) three pounds per Centum Consolidated Bank Annuities standing in the Bank books in the
names of the said William Harry Kempster George Lanburn Gratham and James Williamson,
A Messuage or dwelling house with the Yards Gardens Stable Meadows and Premises with the
appurtenances Situate near the River Thames at Kingston upon Thames aforesaid called Down Hall
on lease to John Skyram? a Malthouse Cinder Oven Sheds and Yard Brewhouse Stable and Cottage
with the appurtenances situate in Norbiton Street Kingston upon Thames aforesaid on Lease to James Thompson,
A Messuage and Hill houses with requisite outbuildings Cottages Yards Gardens and appurtenances
situate at Bishops Hall Thames Street Kingston upon Thames aforesaid in Lease to Henry Frederick Nicholas and a George Taylor,
A Messuage or tenement and premises with the appurtenances situate in Thames Street aforesaid in lease to Thomas Jackson,
of a Malthouse of two floors with Malt kiln Cistern Cinder Oven Yards Sheds and Premises with the
appurtenances situate in the Back Lane Kingston upon Thames aforesaid on lease to Richard Galley
An allotment on Norbiton Common Kingston upon Thames aforesaid containing one acre two roods
and thirty nine perches or thereabouts which has lately been contracted to be sold to John Lindsey
A messuage or tenement known by the name of the Swan Inn with the Stocks Yard
Gardens outbuildings and appurtenances situate in Hampton Wick in the County of Middlesex on lease to Charles Rowlls
And a messuage or tenement Yard Garden and Premises situate in Heachen? Street Kingston upon
Thames aforesaid on lease to Mr. Papps
And Whereas my said Wife departed this life on the first day of December last [1844]
Now I the said Valentine Collard do by this my last Will
and Testament give devise dispose and bequeath the said moiety to which my said wife became
entitled as aforesaid of and in the said Capital Sum of one thousand six hundred and ninety two
pounds fifteen shillings and three pence (in the) three pounds per Centum Consolidated Bank
Annuities and of and in the said several messuages or tenements hereditaments and premises herein
before described with the appurtenances and the monies to arise on the sale thereof
and the stocks funds or securities in or upon which the same may be invested and all the rents
interest dividends and profits to arise and accrue thereon from the period of my decease and all other
the real and personal estates (if any) to which my said Wife became entitled under the said Will of her
said late Uncle and now vested in me or which I either by virtue of my marital rights or under the
Settlement made on my marriage with my said Wife or otherwise have any power to dispose of unto
the said William Harry Kempster the brother of my said late Wife his heirs executors administrators
and assigns according to the nature and tenure thereof respectively for his and their own absolute use and benefit
And I do direct the said Trustees of the said Will of the said James Forth to convey assure
transfer and assign the same to him and them accordingly
I also give devise and bequeath unto the said William Harry Kempster all my leasehold interest with the right of tenure of the existing lease of and in the messuage or dwellinghouse Garden Yard and Premises situate at Teddington aforesaid ow in my occupation together with the pew in Teddington Church To hold the same unto the said William Henry Kempster his executors administrators and assigns for his and their absolute use and benefit
I give devise and bequeath unto Mr. David Blantaine of twenty seven Bucklisbury [Bucklersbury] in the City of London Solicitor all my leasehold interest in a certain piece or parcel of Ground with the Buildings thereon situate on the North side of Wapping Street in the Parish of St. John Wapping in the County of Middlesex opposite a certain Dock on the South side of Wapping Street aforesaid called Gun Dock which said Premises are held for the residue of a term of three hundred and forty years commencing at Michaelmas one thousand seven hundred and seventy three To hold the same (subject to the existing underlease of the said premises to the said David Blantaine his executors administrators and assigns for his and their absolute use and benefit
And I give the Capital sum of one thousand pounds stock in the New three pounds five shillings per Centum Annuities to my Nephew Robert Lendrum? of Park Street Bristol Tailor the Son of my dear Sister Catherine Edwards Lendrum Widow for his absolute use and benefit together with the dividends to accrue thereon form the time of my decease
And I constitute and appoint William Harry Kemspter Robert Lendrum and James Williamson of
Grays Inn in the County of Middlesex Solicitor joint Executors of this my Will
Provided always and I hereby declare that my said Executors shall be chargeable only for such monies as they shall
respectively actually receive by virtue of this my Will notwithstanding their joining in receipts for
conformity and that any one or more of them shall not be answerable of accountable for the other or
others of them but each for his own acts receipts neglects or defaults only And that they or any or
either of them shall not be answerable or accountable for any Banker Broker or other person with
whom or in whose hands any monies may be deposited or lodged for the purpose of investment or
for safe custody nor for the insufficiency or deficiency of any security or securities in or upon which
any monies shall be invested nor for any other misfortune loss or damage which may happen in the
execution of this my will unless the same shall happen by or through their own wilful neglect or default respectively
And also that it shall be lawful for my said Executors by and out of the monies which shall come to their respective hands by virtue of this my will to retain to and reimburse himself and themselves respectively and also to allow to his and their Co Executors all loss costs charges damages and expenses with they shall respectively sustain charge expend disburse or be put unto in or about the execution of this my Will including such professional charges as the said James Williamson as a Solicitor shall make in the transaction of any business arising under or in the execution of this my Will

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me Valentine Collard of Teddington in the County of Middlesex Esquire Rear Admiral in Her Majesty’s Navy which all bears date the Second day of January one thousand eight hundred and forty five
I give and bequeath to Sarah Sudbury of Teddington aforesaid Spinster the sum of one hundred pounds Stock in the three per Cent Reduced Bank Annuities
I give and bequeath to my Servant Mary Bailey in the event of her being in my service at the time of
my death the sum of Four hundred pounds in the three per cent Consolidated Bank Annuities
Also all my linen together with the bed bedding and furniture in the bed room which she
and her fellow servant now occupy in my house
I give and bequeath unto to my Brother in law William Harry Kempster over and above what I have given to him by my said Will all the residue of my household furniture also all my plate China and books together with the whole contents of my Wine Cellar
I give and bequeath to Catherine Woodward Dallaway and to her Sister Elizabeth Dallaway of
Vicarage Square Stratford the sum of two hundred pounds (that is to say) one
hundred pounds each Stock in the three per Cent reduced Bank Annuities
I give and bequeath unto my Sister Mary Innes the Sum of Twenty pounds
I give and bequeath to Christopher West a Commander in the Royal Navy now of Teddington aforesaid the sum of two hundred pounds Stock in the three per Cent reduced Bank Annuities together with the Watch I now wear
I give and bequeath unto my Servant Sarah Woodward should she be in my service at the time of my
death the sum of Twenty pounds
I give and bequeath unto James Williamson one of my Executors in my said Will named the sum of
one hundred pounds in the new three pounds five shillings per Cent Annuities
And I give and bequeath all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever whether real or personal (except what I shall have given by my said Will and by this my Codicil) unto my Nephew Robert Lendrum in my said Will named his heirs executors and administrators for his and their own use and benefit
And in case I should in my life time sell or dispose of any of the different funded properties out of which I have given Stock legacies so that there shall be not at my death remain sufficient thereof to answer the legacies given thereout my Will is that such legacies or such part thereof as shall remain unsatisfied shall in that event be chargeable upon and provided for out of the residue of my personal estate

Valentine was buried at St. Mary with St. Alban, Teddington on 25th March 1846, aged 73,
and is given as Rear Admiral of the Blue, with a note: committed suicide.
There is a memorial inscription within St. Mary’s church & an obituary in The Gentleman’s Magazine, 1846.
