Will of John Cooke

of Cranbrook, Kent

First I give and bequeath to Mary Cooke the widow of my late son John Cooke deceased the sum of �500 of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my Executrix hereinafter named within three months next after my decease

Also I give and bequeath to my sister Mary Steers the sum of �20 of like lawful money to buy her mourning

And all the rest residue and remainder of my Estates and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever the same shall ----- in or consist of at the time of my decease I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my dear wife Elizabeth Cooke her Executors Administrators and Assigns to and for her and their proper use and Benefit

And lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my said wife Elizabeth Cooke sole Executrix of this my will hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament

In witness whereof I the said John Cooke the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and year first above written J Cooke
Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Cooke the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto in the presence of the said Testator and of each other and at his request

This Will was proved at London the 4th day of July 1782 before the Worshipful John F-her Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Elizabeth Cooke Widow the Relict of the deceased and sole Executrix named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to administer
