This is the last Will and testament of me John Cook of the parish of Hemphill in the County of Kent Yeoman made the seventh day of May in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and eight and in [the] forty eight year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of great Britain & Ireland King Defender of the faith

First I dissolve and make void all former will and Testament by me made of this my last Will and Testament
I do constitute and appoint my Son John Cook of Lambeth in the County of Surrey Innkeeper and my good friend Edward Rigden of the parish of Hernhill aforesaid yeoman Executors
and I do give and bequeath to the said Edward Rigden the Sum of five pounds of lawful money as valued in Great Britain to be paid to him as soon after my decease as convenient may be

also I give and bequeath the use of my Silver watch and of the Chain and Seal thereto unto Elizabeth my Wife during her life and after her decease I give and bequeath the use thereof unto my daughter Mary Cook during her life and after the several deceases of my said wife and daughter I give and bequeath the said watch Chain and Seal unto my Grandson John Cook Son of my Son Thomas Cook for his own use and benefit

Also I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Cook the bed she sleeps on and the bedstead and all the furniture thereunto belonging with Blankets and two pair of my best sheets and two Chairs and the Chest marked with my name for her own use and benefit

Also I give all my apparel both Linen and Woollen unto my four sons William John Thomas and Sampson equally to be divided between them

Also I give and bequeath the use of all the residue of my household Goods and furniture unto my said Wife Elizabeth during her life and after her decease the same to be sold and the produce thereof to sink into the residuum of my personal Estate or otherwise the same to be equally divided amongst my Residuary Legatees hereafter named

Also I give and bequeath into my said Son John Cook and the said Edward Rigden their Executors and administrators all and every the monies in the funds and now standing in my name or in the name of me and my said wife and all other my monies security for money and personal Estate and Effects of every sort and kind subject to the payment of my just debts Legacies and funeral Charges the Costs of proving this my last will and Testament and other incidental Expenses

In Trust to receive and pay the yearly Interest dividends and profits thereof unto my said Wife Elizabeth or her assigns during her life for her own use and benefit and after her decease In Trust to pay assign and transfer all the said Trust monies personal Estate and Effects unto and equally between my eight Children Sarah the wife of William Wait, Elizabeth the wife of Edward Pay, Mary Cook, William Cook, John Cook, Lucy Cook, Thomas Cook and Sampson Cook their respective Executors and administrators share and share alike to whom I give and bequeath the same and it is my desire that the Settlement and Division in manner aforesaid of my said property may take place in three calendar months next after the decease of my said Wife

and lastly I hereby declare that it shall be lawful for my said Executors and their administrators to reimburse themselves their reasonable Costs and Expenses out of my said personal Estate and that they shall respectively not be answerable for more monies or Effects than they shall receive or possess under this my will and not one for the other but each of them for their own account acts receipts neglects and defaults only

In Witness whereof I the said Testator John Cook to the first sheet of this my last will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper have set my hand and to the last sheet thereof my hand and Seal the day and year first above written

Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Testator John Cook as and for his last Will and testament in the presence of us who at this request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto set our hands as witnesses

Proved at London 24th November 1812 before the Worshipful Samuel Rush Mayrick? Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the Oaths of John Cook the Son and Edward Rigden the Executors to whom administration was granted they having been first sworn duly to administer

John Cook married Elizabeth Sampson by Banns on 13 Sep 1762 at Boughton-under-Blean, Kent.
Their children (It should be noted that many of their children�s christenings cannot be found):
Sarah the wife of William Wait christening not found. Married 20th June 1786 at Lysted.
Elizabeth the wife of Edward Pay (possible c. 1779 Patrixbourne). Married 14th June 1789 at Holy Cross, Canterbury
Mary Cook (possible c. 1779 Patrixbourne)
William Cook c. 20 Dec 1767 Boughton-under-Blean
John Cook c. 15 April 1770 Hernhill
Lucy Cook c. 9 May 1773 Hernhill
