In the Name of God Amen in the yere of our Lord [1542]
I Richard Coppyn of the pishe [parish] of Saynt Lawrence in the yle of thannet [Isle of Thanet] in the countie of Kent the xxijth [22nd] day of Marche being sicke in bodie and whole of mynd do ordeyn and make this my p’sent testament and last Will in manr [manner] and form folowing
First I bequeith my soule to Almightie God to our blessed Lady and all the holie compeny of heaven and my bodie to be buryed in the churchyard of Saynt Lawrence abovesaid

Item I bequeith to the high aulter for my tithes negligently forgotten viijd [8 pence]
Item I Will to be done at my forth fare for my saule [soul] and all xpen saules [Christian souls] in massys [masses] diriges and other good deads of charite xjs viijd [11 shillings 8 pence]
and at my moneths day [one month after burial] vjs viijd [6 shillings 8 pence]

All the Residew of my goods mouveable my debts paid and my Will fulfilled I give and bequeith to Margery my Wife
To see this day I ordeyned and make myn Executors Steven Thatcher and Richard Ascome and evry [every] of them to have for their labrs [labours] iijs iiijd

Theis beinge Witnes Edward Mynge Vicar Symon Grannt Benet Bene Cristofer Ventyman with others

This is the Last Will of me the abovesaid Richard Coppyn made the day and yeare above writen and in the xxxiiijth [34th] yeare of the Reigne our most noble and Souveregne Lord Kyng Henry the viijth of and upon all my Lands and tements [tenements] set lyinge and beinge wtin [within] the Ile abovesaid or els where wtin the Countie of Kent the wch [which] I have had or in tyme to come may have

I Will it shall remayne to Margery my Wife for time of her lif kepying sufficient reparacons [repairs] and payinge the Lord of the Fee [i.e. the Lord of the Manor of St. Lawrence]

And after her decease I will if it be a man childe that Margery my Wif goith withall that all my said lands and tements shall remayne unto hym and he to pay out of he said lands & tements. to my daughter Johan wtin two years next after he comyth to the said landes iijli [£3] of lawful money of England
And if it be a mayde that Margery my wife goeth wtall then I will that the said landes and tenemts. shalbe equally devyded by even porcons [portions] betwen theym and the one to be the others heire
And if they bothe die wtout heires of their bodies lawfully begotten Then I will that myn Executores their heires or Assignes shall sell xij Acres of land lyinge at the East syde of Herston wch was my Fathers Thoms. Coppyn to the most valew that they may

And therof I Will the shall have preist singyng [priest singing] for my Soule and all xpen saules [Christian souls] an [one] yeare in the Churche above said and he to have for his paynes vjli xiijs iiijd [£6 13 shillings and 4 pence]
Item to the Repacons of the said churche xs
And all the Residue of the money of the said land I will is shalbe devyded betwen my Uncle Symon Grannts children by equall porcons

And all the Residue of my lands and tenemts. I Will yt shall remayne to my two Sisters Margery & Johan to be devyded by equall porcons betwen them and the one to be the others herie
And if they die wtout heires them I will it shall remayne to my Uncle Symon Grannts sonnes to be devyded by equall porcons betwen them for ever and the one to be the others heire
