Roger Coveney of Hunton, Yeoman, will dated 30 March 1586
My body to be buryed in the Church of Hunton
6s 8d to the reparacons of the church of Hunton aforesaid
20 shillings for the poor coming to my burial
6d to each of my godchildren
6s 8d to the poor mens boxe of Hunton

I give to Jane Coveney my wife ...

I give to Anne Chittenden my cozen one chest in my bedchamber standing nighe the dore

I give to the daughters of my brother Thomas Coveney �40 of good and lawfull money of England in manner & forme followinge to be paide (that is to saye)
To Elizabeth Coveney �10 at her age of 21
To Joane Coveney �10 at the like age
To Barbara Coveney �6 13s 4d
To Anne, the wife of George Andrewes �6 13s 4d to be paide to eche of them within twoe yeares after my decease
To Susan Coveney �6 13s 4d to be paid to her at the age of 21
I give to John Coveney, the sonne of my said brother Thomas, �15 towards his bringing upp in Learning
I give to William Coveney, James Coveney and Roger Coveney the other of my said brother Thomas sonnes, �15, that is to every of them �5 to be paid to them at their severall ages of 21 yeares

I give to every one of my own sisters 10 shillings to be paide to every of them within one halfe yeare after my decease
I give to Mary Coveney, the daughter of my brother Hughe, 10 shillings
I give to Mayfeild Marten and Alice Marten my servants to eche of them 20 shillings
I give to Agnes Coveney, my sister in lawe, 10 shillings
I give to every one of my syster Wilsams (Wilson) children twelve pence
I give to Anne Catlett the wiffe of John Catlet of Westfarlye 20 shillings
and to her sonne James Catlett 20 shillings
6s 8d to Jane Catlet my cozen

I give to Elizabeth Coveney, the wiffe of my cozen John Coveney of Hastinglye 20 shillings
I give to my cozen Roger Coveney, sonne of my brother Hughe deceased, and to his wiffe 40 shillings
I give to Richard Coveney, Edward Coveney and Thomas Coveney the Younger, my cozens other of the sonnes of my saide brother Hughe to eche of them 6s 8d
10 shillings to my boye, John Hoo
3s 4d to Roger Penye, my boye

I give to the saide Thomas Coveney my brother and my cozen John Coveney, the sonne of my said brother Hughe, my Lease interest and terme of yeares of all such landes, pastures and feeding as I have and holde of the President and schollers of Marye Magdalen Colledge in the universitye of Oxforde lying and being in Romney Marshe or ells where within the county of Kent, from the Feast of St Michaell next after my decease in forme following (that is to saye)

That the said Thomas for his part thereof, his executors and assignes, shall have enioye and possesse severally during the said Lease and terme of yeares all the landes of the said Lease in the parishes of Ivyechurche and Newe Romney nowe in the occupation of Mr Robert Durbane or of his assignes, and also of all the landes of the said Lease in Snargate nowe in the occupacion of me the foresaide Roger Coveney, upon condicion that he the said Thomas my brother shall well and faithfully yeld and paye to the said president and schollers the one halfe of the rente or farme reserved upon the said lease to be due yearely from and after the said Feast of St Michaell tharchangell next after my decease And in consideracion of this my present Legacye, I will that the said Thomas my brother shall bring upp or cause to be brought upp in Learning my cozen Roger Coveney, sonne of the said Thomas in the saide universitye of Oxford so soone as he shalbe readye to come thither therein to be instructed

And that my said cozen John Coveney, for his parte, his executors and assigns shall have enioye and possess severally during the said Lease or terme of yeares, all the other landes of the said Lease in the parishe of Olde Romney now in the occupation of me the said testator and the said John upon condicion that he shall well and faithfully yeald and paye to the said president and schollers the other halfe of the rent or farme reserved upon the said Lease to be due yearely from and after the said Feast of St Michaell the Archangell next after my decease, during the residue of all the terme of the said Lease at the two frastes limited for payment thereof
And in consideracion of this my present legacy, I will that the same John my cosen shall bring upp or cause to be brought upp Roger Coveney sonne of the same John in like sorte in the said universitye

Moreover I will that my said brother Thomas Coveney, his executors, administrators or assignes shall yealed and paye owte of his parte of the saide Lease unto Roger Coveney my cosen the sonne also of my brother Hughe �5 yearely from and after the said Feast of St Michaell the Archangell next after my decease during the said terme of yeares in the foresaide Lease specified and comprised at twoe the most principall Feasts of the yeare by even portions

Item my will is that my executor shall have and receive all the rentes and farmes of so muche of the saide Lease, landes as nowe are in the occupation of any tenant or farmer of mine as shall rise or growe to be due and payable after my decease unto the last day of September next following my deathe, and by all that time shall have the occupation of so much of the saide Lease, landes as nowe are in the proper occupation of me the saide testator

The residue of all my moveable goodes and cattels unbequeathed, I give and bequeathe unto my said brother Thomas Coveney whome I doe make and ordayne my executor to this my last will and testament that he therewith paye my debes and discharge and performe all my Legacies and bequeathes conteyned in this same Last Will and testament as my whole trust and confidence in him that he will faithfully doe, and the overplus to be to his owne use

This is the last Will of me the foresaid Roger Coveney made and declared the daye and yeare above written in my testament, of for and upon the disposicon of order and assignement of all my Landes, tenements, Rentes, services and hereditaments with all and singuler their appurtenances severally sett, lying and being within the parishes of Staplehurst, Marden, Huntington alias Hunton in the County of Kent

First I doe give to Jane my wiffe, my twoe messauages or tenements and all my landes in Hunton before said with all & singuler thappurtenances whiche I late boughte of William Ippenberye to have and to holde to the said Jane my wiffe and her assignes from the Feast of St Michaell the Archangell next after my decease, for during and by the terme of hernaturall life, she keeping necessarye reparacons to the same and from time to time paying all the Lordes rentes yearely going owte of the same.

Item I give to the same Jane my Wiffe one other tenement and all my other landes in Hunton with all and singuler their appurtenances whiche I late boughte of my brother Thomas Chittenden, To have and to holde to her and her assignes from the said Feast of St Michaell the Archangell for and during the terme of her naturall lyfe, keeping reparacons and paying the Lordes Rentes as is aforesaid

Item I will and assigne to the same Jane my Wiffe all those my landes and tenements with thappurtenances in Hunton aforesaid which I boughte of George Winter and John Winter his brother, to have and to holde� (etc� same conditions as already mentioned)

Item I will and assigne to the same Jane my Wiffe my other one tenement and all other my Landes with thappurtenances in Hunton which I boughte of Allexander Dirkyn, to have and to holde to her and her assignes from the said Feast of St Michaell the Archangell next after my decease during her naturall lyfe if she live so longe sole and unmarried, during whiche time my Will is that she kepe necessarye reparacons to the same and from time to time paye all the Lordes rentes going out of the same

Item I give to the same Jane my Wiffe one Annuall Rent or Annuitye of 4 markes of good and Lawfull money of England yearely going and yssuing, and to goe and yssue owte of an in all those of my landes and tenements sett lying and being in the parrishe of Staplehurst aforesaid, to be had, taken, levyed and perceived to the same Jane and her assignes so longe as she shall kepe her selfe my sole widowe, at twoe usuall Feastes or termes of the yeare to be paid Item I give to the said Jane my Wiffe one other annuitye or yearely Rent of �5 of good and Lawfull money of England yearely, going and to goe owte of and in all my Landes in Marden, now in the occupacon of me the said Roger Coveney, to be had, taken, levyed and perceived to the saide Jane (etc�)

Item I give to James Coveney the sonne of my saide brother Thomas Coveney all those my Landes and tenements in the parrishe of Staplehurst aforesaid with all and singuler their appurtenances To have and to holde to the same James Coveney and his heires from the Feast of St Michaell the Archangell next after my decease

Item I give to William Coveney, one other of the sonnes of my saide brother Thomas, all my landes in Marden, now in the occupacon of me the said Roger, with all and singuler the appurtenances, To have and to holde to the said William Coveney and his heires from the saide Feast of St Michaell the Archangell next after my decease

Item I give to John Coveney, one other sonne of my saide brother Thomas, all those my landes and tenements with theire appurtenances in Hunton aforesaid whiche I boughte of my brother Thomas Chittenden To have and to holde to him and his heires from and after the decease of the saide Jane my Wiffe

Item I give to Roger Coveney, the sonne of my cosen John Coveney of Hastingleigh, all those my landes and twoe tenements with all and singuler theire appurtenances in Hunton whiche I boughte of William Ippenberye To have and to holde to the same Roger Coveney and to his heires for ever from and after the decease of the saide Jane my Wiffe

Item I give to Roger Coveney, one other sonne of my said brother Thomas, all those my landes and tenements with all and singuler theire appurtenances in Hunton aforesaid whiche I late boughte of Alexander Dirkyn To have and to holde to the same Roger Coveney and his heires from and after the terme and time of the said Jane my Wiffe

Item I give to Robert Chittenden the sonne of Robert Chittenden my brother in Lawe, all those my landes and tenements with all and singuler theire appurtenances in Hunton beforesaide which I late boughte of George Winter and John Winter his brother To have and to holde to the saide Robert Chittenden the sonne and his heires from and after the decease of the saide Jane my Wiffe

Item I will that whereas by my deede indented I have lately graunted, solde, delivered and confirmed to Thomas Coveney of Snodland in the said County of Kent, yeoman, all those twoe peeces of lande and one litle parcel of Lande late being a garden called Riddendes with all thappurtenances conteyning in the whole by estimacon 26 acres of Landes more or lesse thereof to be had in the parrishe of Marden aforesaide To have and to holde to the same Thomas his heires and assignes for ever under and upon condicon of payment of �48 of good and lawfull money of England to be paide to me the saide testator, my heires, executors, administrators or assignes at certen place, dayes and houres limitted in the saide dede indented, of whiche somme of �48 there are paide 40 shillings, and �46 residue remaine yet to be paide : that my executor abovesaide, his executors or assignes shall receive the saide somme of �46 yet remaining to be paide And I will that �36 thereof shalbe applied towarde the performannce and fulfilling of my saide testament
And �10 residue of the saide �46 I give and bequeath to Dorothye Coveney my cosen, sister of the foresaide Thomas of Snodland when the last payment of the said �46 shalbe paide and received

Finally, I will that my saide Executor shall have and receive all the rentes and farmes of all my saide landes and tenements from my decease until the last daye of September then next following towards the performance and fulfilling of my saide testament and of this my last will

In witnes aswell of my saide testament as of this my present last will, I the said Roger the testator have hereunto sett my seale and marke and have caused the same to be redd and declared in the presence and hearing of these witnesses, that is to saye.
