In the name of God Amen The twelveth day of March in the three & thirtieth yeare of the reigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith etc. Anno Dom. 1680
I Edward Dale of Woodnesborough al[ia]s Winsborough in the County of Kent Yeoman being aged and crasy in body but of sound & p[er]fect minde and memory (thankes bee given to Allmighty God for the same) considering the transitorinesse of this prsent life and the uncertaine hour of certain death doe make and declare this my Last will and testam[en]t in manner following
First I comend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker hopeing assuredly through the meritts and mediacon [mediation] of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to live with him Eternally after this my mortall life shall bee ended And my body to the earth decently to bee interred at the discrecon of my Executors hereafter named An as touching the disposicon of that estate wherewith it hath pleased God to blesse mee I give and dispose of the same as followeth

Imprimis I give & devise unto my grandchild Edward Dale eldest sonne of my late sonne John Dale dec[eas]ed the next Micha[elma]s after he my said grandsonne shall attaine the age of on and Twenty yeares and to his heires All that my Messuage or Tenement with the barnes, Stables, Dovehouse, Outhouses and Sixteene acres of Land more or lesse thereunto belonging with all and Singuler their and every of their appurten[a]nc[e]s Scituate lyeing & being in the Parish of Staple in the aforesaid Countie of Kent att or neer a place there called “Coolblowe”
And all that my peice or parcell of Land heretofore in diverse severall peices conteyning about Fifteene or Sixteene acres with the appurtenncs lyeing and being in the Parish of Woodnesborough als Winsborough aforesaid in feild there called Southfeild and now together in the tenure or occupacion of Jane Dale Widd[ow] mother of my said grandsonne Edward or of her assignes

Alsoe I give unto my said grandsonne Edward Dale & his heires All that my peice or parcell of Marshland conteyning by estimacon Tenn acres more or lesse with the appurtenncs lyeing and being in the parish of Ickham called by (the) name of Seaton or by what other name the same is called now in my owne occupacon
He my said grandchild and his heires paying unto the said Jane his mother when he or they shall come to enjoy the same Messuage Lands Pr[e]misses the Sume of Tenn pounds of Lawfull money of England a yeare for and dureing the terme of her naturall life att the Feast dayes of th’Annuntiaton of the blessed virgin Mary and St, Michaell th’Archangell by even & equall porcons [portions] the first payment thereof to beginn and to bee made att the Feast day of th’Annuntiaton of the blessed virgin Mary next after the said Edward shall come to enjoy the same

And he my said grandsonne Edward payeing then unto my grandsonne Edward Pordage sonne of Richard Pordage by my Daughter Elizabeth the Sume of Forty shillings of like money by the yeare for and during the terme of his naturall Life by halfe yearely payments att the Feast dayes aforesaid, the first payment thereof to begin & to bee made att that Feast daye of the Feast dayes aforesaid that shall first and next happen and come after ye death of the said Richard Pordage if my said grandsonne Edward Dale shall be then of the age of one and Twenty yeares
But is hee shall not be of the age of one and Twentie yeares at the time of the death of the said Richard Pordage Then the first paym[en]t thereof to begin and to bee made att the first of the said Feast dayes that shall first happen next after the said Edward shall come to the said age the said Richard being dead
And in the meane tyme untill my said grandsonne Edward shall attain the age of one and Twenty yeares I give all my aforesaid Messuage Lands and Premisses to my Executors hereafter named towards the payment of my debts and Legacies

Item I give unto my grandchild John Dale sonne of my said sonne John All my Fower acres and three roods of Land which I purchased of my brother John Dale, and one acre & three roods more or lesse which I purchased of John Nash with their appurtncs lyeing and being in the parish of Woodnesborough als Winsborough aforesaid, called Lynnwell banckes
Alsoe my five pieces or parcells of Land which I purchased of John Neame conteyning together by estimacon Six acres more or lesse with their appurtenncs lyeing and being in a feild called Barnsole Feild in the parish of Staple and Woodnesborough als Winsborough aforesaid or in one of the said parishes and to the heires and assignes of my said grandsonne John Dale he or them payeing unto Richard Dale and Robert Dale his younger brothers the sume of Forty shillings a peace [apiece] for the Terme of Twenty yeares, halfe yearely by even and equall porcons att the first and next feast day of St. Michaell th’archangell after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto my Sonne Edward Dale for and during the Terme of his naturall life All my right Title Estate and interest which I have of in or unto All that Messuage or Tenem[en]t Barne Stable Outhouses and Fourteene or Fifteene acres more or lesse of arrable Land thereunto belonging and one Osier garden thereunto adjoyning conteyning by estimacon one acre more or lesse with their appurtenncs Scituate lying and being in the parish of Ickham aforesaid att or neere a place there called Seaton in his my said Sonnes occupaton

And after his decease to the heires of his body Lawfully to bee begotten and for want of such issue to my Sonnes Robert Dale, Richard Dale and Austin Dale equally to bee divided betweene then and to their heires and assignes for ever
they paying unto the wife of my said sonne Edward Dale for and during the terme of her naturall life the Sume of Fower pounds of Lawfull money of England by the yeare by halfe yearely payments (that is to say) at the feast daies of St. Michael thArchangell and the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary the first paymt thereof to begin and to be made att the first of the said Feast daies that shall first and next happen and come after the death of the said Edward Dale her Husband

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Richard Dale all my right title interest terme of years clayme and demand whatsoever which I have in all the houseing Maulthouse and Lands now or late of William Rigden with all and singuler their and every of their appurtenncs scituate lyeing and being in the parishes of St. Peters and St. Clements in the Towne and Port of Sandwich in the said County of Kent
Alsoe I give unto him my said sonne Richard the Sume of One hundred pounds of Lawfull money of England to bee paid unto him by my Executors within two yeares next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Austin Dale and to his heires All those my five or parcells of Land sometyme in three or Four pieces or parcells conteyning togeather by estimaconthirteene acres more or lesse called Buckland with the appurtenncs lying and being in the parish of Staple aforesaid whereof two acres and a half I purchased of Stephen Hatcher

And my Will and meaning is that my said sonne Austin Dale lett his nephew my aforesaid grandsonne Edward Dale have ye occupacon thereof with the Cooleblow aforesaid for and att the rent of Tenn pounds p[er] Annum

Item I give and bequeath unto my said Sonne Robert Dale and his heires All my messuage and Lands Scituate lying and being in the parish of Deale in the County aforesaid
Item I give unto my three Daughters Margarett, Anna and Jane tenn shillings a peice to bee paid them by my Executors

Item all the rest of my goods, chattells Household stuffe and Implem[en]ts of Household, Stock, Cropp and personal estate whatsoever not before given or bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Robert Dale and my aforesaid Daughter Sarah Dale who I make full and whole Executors of this my last Will and Testament

Provided alwaies and my Will and meaning is that if my Sonne Robert Dale shall pay unto the said Sarah his sister the sume of one hundred and Twenty pounds of Lawfull money of England that then shee my said Daughter shall accept of the same in Satisfaccon of her part to my personall estate and doe resigne upp her right of Executorshipp to her said Brother Robert and soe hee to be full and Sole Executor of this my Will

And my Will and meaning further is That if default shall happen to bee made in payment of the several yearely paymts of the former mencioned Sumes of money before by mee given out of my Messuage & Lands Tenements and Hereditaments aforesaid That then I give full power and authority to all and every the severall Legatees for yearely rents aforesaid to distreyne [distrain] for their severall dues out of the severall Messuages Lands and Tenements out of which the same is given and intended to bee paid out of as aforesaid And that when and soe often as the said yearely paymts shall be behind and unpaid

In Witnesse whereof I the said Edward Dale to this my last Will and Testament in Fower sheets of paper conteyned to the first three sheets thereof my hand have sett and to this Fourth sheet my hand & seale have sett dated the day and yeare first above written

Notes:
Crasy (crasie) - "Having the bodily health or constitution impaired; indisposed, ailing; diseased, sickly; broken down, frail, infirm."
Osier garden - Willow, osier - strong, neat & bendy, osier willow is used for basket weaving.
