Will of Michael Deane

of London and Kent

I give to my dear wife Ann Deane all my household goods, plate, linen, furniture whatsoever and all her jewels, rings, watch and other ornaments for her person for her own use.

I give to my loving Brother Thomas Deane the sum of Fifty pounds
I also give to my said Brother Thomas Deane that Estate which came to me by my honoured father William Deane called Padley or the Malt House which is now in the occupation of Thomas Clarke which estate is in the County of Kent.

I give to my niece Mary Fletcher the Smiths House Forge and plot of ground in Hodsell Street in the County of Kent.

I give to the Reverend Mr Charles Bulkley the Sum of Twenty Pounds.
I give to the Reverend Mr Webb? Ten Pounds.
I give to the poor of Mr Bulkleys Congregation twenty Pounds.
I give to my cousin Lucretia Bridge Ten Guinees in money and also four pounds a year to be paid every half year.
I give to Doctor Michael Scott my Topaz Ring.
I give to Jane the daughter of my niece and nephew Fletcher who is now at my house the Sum of one hundred pounds when she arrives at the age of twenty one years.

The remainder of my Real and Personal Estate I give to my loving wife Ann Deane subject nevertheless to the following conditions that is to say after the death of my loving wife Ann Deane I give to the children of my brother-in-law Benjamin Fletcher and Abia Fletcher ( nee Deane) his late wife the sum of five hundred pounds to be equally divided share and share alike if such child or children living if not I give the said five hundred pounds to my brother Thomas Deane and his heirs forever.
I also give after my loving wife's decease to the children of my niece Mary Fletcher and Joseph Fletcher her husband the Sum of five hundred pounds share and share alike.
I also give after the decease of my loving wife to my Brother (-in-law) John Chandler and Mary his wife and the Survivor of them the sum of five hundred pounds to possess and enjoy during each of their lives and after their decease to each of their children as are at least unprovided for solely at their own discretion
I give to Mr William Stoad twenty pounds for the use of the fund of which he is Treasurer.
I give to Mr John Dunn of Ironmongers Lane twenty pounds for the Widows Fund of which he is Treasurer

That whereas I sold my estate at Barhurst in the County of Sussex which was given me by my Honoured father Mr William Deane for Seven hundred pounds which Seven hundred pounds I give to my loving Brother and his heirs for ever after the decease of my loving wife and request my said loving Brother to be joint Executor with my loving wife Ann Deane the Leasehold Estate in Long Lane Southwark London and the Estate in Malden Essex if not my wifes already I give her them both. Witness my hand the 16 of March 1763 Michael Deane Contained in this paper 1 2 3 written with my own hand at full length

I give to my partner Mr Martin Tomkins the sum of Twenty pounds
It is my further request to my loving wife Ann Deane that the remainder of my Estate undisposed of and what she shall leave at her decease be divided betwixt my Brother Thos Deane and his heirs and my brother-in-law John Chandler and his heirs share and share alike but in case my wife shall give more than an equal part to my Brother (in Law) John Chandler his heirs and Executors then the five hundred pounds already given him by this my will shall be borrowed and paid to my Brother Thos Deane and his heirs or Executors. Which Day approved personally Edward Bull of the Parish of St Michael Bassishaw, London, Blackwell Hall factor and James Hackett of the Parish of St Stephen, Coleman Street London Broker and being severally sworn on the Lady Evangelist to swear and depose the truth deposed as follows to wit that they and each of those deponents are very well acquainted with Michael Deane late of Basinghall Street London deceased and also with his manner and character of handwriting having often seen him write and subscribe his name and they are each of those deponents to having now lawfully viewed and perused the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting the last will and Testament and Codecils or Testamentary Codecils of him the said Deceased the will beginning At my Dwelling House in Basinghall Street London March 16 in the year 1763 I Michael Deane of London Blackwell Hall factor do make and ordaine my last will and Testament and subscribed --- Michael Deane --- the first Codecil on the Testamentary Schedule beginning --- It is my further request and ending --- London March 14 1765 and subscribed --- Michl Deane --- deposed that the whole series of the said paper writings together with the several Subscriptions thereto are severally wrote and subscribed by and with the proper handwriting of him the said deceased all which they severally and jointly depose to be true

This Will was proved at London with the two Codecils on the tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty five before the worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Law and Surogate of the Right worshipful George Day also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commincary of the prorogative Court of Canterbury lawfully Constituted by the oath of Thomas Deane the Brother of the said deceased and one of the Executors named in the said will to whom Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased was granted he having been first sworn duly to administer --- power reserved of making the life Grant to Anne Deane Widow the relict of the said deceased and other Executor named in the said will when she shall apply for the same.

This Will was proved at London with two Codecils on the nineteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty six before the Worshipful Francis Simpson Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right worshipful George Day also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Canninsary of the Prorogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Ann Deane Widow the Relict of the said deceased and the other Executor named in the said will to whom Administration of the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Dec�d was granted She having been first sworn duly to administer.
