And I commit by body to the Earth from whence it was taken desiring my Executors after herein named to see my body decently buried ? I do make and ordain Ralph Philpot my father (in law?) and Katherine my loving wife the sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament and after my funeral expenses shall be discharged and all my just and lawful debts shall be paid
I give the remainder of all my stock goods
and chattels (not herein particularly disposed of) unto my said wife and my two daughters Catherine
and Elizabeth to be equally divided between them in case my said wife be not now with child and if my
said wife shall be now with child of a daughter then I give unto such daughter the sum of three hundred
pounds to be paid to her at her age of twenty and one years or her day of marriage which shall first
happen by my said Executors.
And if my said wife shall be with child of a son then I give unto that son
my land in Ash Marsh containing by estimation one and thirty acres to him and to his heirs for ever.
Also I do give devise and bequeath unto such son my two pieces of meadow ground lying and being in
the said Parish of Holy Cross, Westgate containing by estimation nine(?) acres now in my own
occupation and are called or known by the name of ? to him and to his heirs for ever.
Also I do give
devise and bequeath unto my son my mansion house and messuage wherein I now dwell with all the
buildings and appertuances to the same appertaining situate being in the said Parish of Holy Cross
Westgate to him and to his heirs for ever.
And if I shall have a son as aforesaid then I give unto my said
daughter Catherine the sum of two(?) hundred pounds to be raised out of the profits and rents of my
said messuage and lands and to be paid to her at the age of eighteen years or day of marriage which
shall first happen and moreover ? aforesaid then I give to my said daughter Elizabeth the like sum of
two hundred pounds of lawful money of England to be paid out of the profits and rents of my said
messuage and lands and to be paid to her at the age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which
shall first happen.
But if I shall have a son then I give and devise and bequeath to the said Catherine
and Elizabeth my daughters all my said messuage and lands with the appertuances in Holy Cross
Westgate ? and between the same unto the said Catherine and Elizabeth and their assigns ? ? and
Katherine my wife and after the decease of the said Katherine my wife then the said last mentioned
messuage and lands with the appertuances I give and devise unto the said Elizabeth and to her heirs and
assigns for ever.
Also after the decease of my said wife I then give devise and bequeath my said
marshland in Ash unto the said Catherine my daughter and to her heirs and assigns for ever.
Item I give unto the poor people of the Parish of Holy Cross of Westgate the sum of twenty shillings.
And I do hereby revoke all other wills by me formerly made and do constitute this to be my last Will and
Testament. In witness whereof I have to these two sheets of paper set my hand and seal this six and
twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred fifty and two. William
