And I give and bequeath to my brother John Slater and Francis William Cobb of Margate in the Isle of Thanet in the said County of Kent, Banker their executors administrators and assigns the sum of two hundred pounds stock three per centum consolidate of bank annuities in trust to receive the interest and dividends thereof as the same shall become due and payable and to distribute bread and oats to the value of such interest and dividends yearly on Christmas Eve among at the most deserving and meritorious poor resident in Upstreet aforesaid. And I do hereby direct that upon the decease of the survivor of my said Trustees the said capital sum of two hundred pounds stock three per centum consolidate of bank annuities shall be assigned and transferred by the Executors or administrators of the surviving trustee so as that the same may be vested in and at the disposal of the churchwardens for the Parish of Chislet aforesaid for the time being who are thenceforward to receive the interest and dividends thereof and to apply the same in manner aforesaid and I direct that the several legacies aforesaid shall be paid clear of legacy duty which shall be paid by my Executors out of the residue of my personal estate.
And I give and bequeath to my niece Frances Denne the sum of two hundred
pounds sterling and to my nieces Frances Slater and Mary Slater the daughters of my late brother
Edward Slater deceased the sum of five hundred pounds sterling apiece.
And to my ten nephews Edward, William, Gilbert, John ? Frederick, Francis, Thomas, Richard and Alfred Slater the sons of my
said late brother Edward Slater the sum of one hundred pounds sterling apiece.
And I give and bequeath to my nephew John Harrison Slater the son of my said brother John Slater and to his sister
Mary Ann Armstrong wife of Thomas Armstrong Esquire the sum of one hundred pounds sterling
apiece.
And I give and bequeath to my nephew Henry Denne son of my sister Frances Denne my
Margate Pier Bonds and my share in the joint stock of the Margate Pier and ? Company.
And I give and
devise unto and to the use of my said brother John Slater his heirs and assigns for ever all and every my
undivided parts or shares and part or share of and in the several pieces or parcels of land late in the
occupation of ? Rowe and now of Daniel ? situate in the Parish Saint John the Baptist in the Isle of
Thanet aforesaid of which I am seized or which I am entitled to dispose of and all other my real estate
in the said Parish of Saint John the Baptist with the appertuances.
And I give and bequeath my wearing
apparel of all sorts, rings, jewels, trinkets and ornaments of person to my said sister Frances Denne ?
And I give and bequeath my household goods and furniture, plate, linen, china, glass ? liquors and
books unto and equally between my said brother John Slater and my said sister Frances Denne.
And I give and bequeath to my said brother John Slater and the said Frances William Cobb my Executors
hereinafter named one hundred pounds sterling apiece as an acknowledgement of their trouble in the
execution of this my will.
And I give and bequeath to Mary Elizabeth Hilton wife of the Reverend John
Hilton one hundred pounds sterling and to her four sons John Hilton, Thomas Hilton, Henry Hilton and
Arthur Hilton and to her daughter Eleanor Jane Hilton nineteen guineas apiece.
And I give and
bequeath to my three nephews George, Henry and William the sons of my said sister Frances Denne
the sum of two hundred pounds sterling apiece.
And as to all my messuages or tenements and all other
my lands hereditaments parts or shares of hereditaments and real estate whatsoever and wheresoever
with the appertuances I give and devise one full and equal undivided moiety or half part thereof unto
and to the use of my said brother John Slater his heirs and assigns for ever.
And I give and devise the
other and remaining full and equal undivided moiety or half part thereof unto my said sister Frances
Denne and her assigns during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease
then unto and to the use of her daughter my niece the said Frances Denne her heirs and assigns for ever.
And as to all other my money, money in the public stocks or funds, securities for money and all other
my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever not by me hereinbefore disposed of after and subject to
the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary charges and the several legacies or sums of
money by me hereinbefore bequeathed or directed to be paid and also subject to such pecuniary and
other gifts and bequests as shall be expressed in any codicil or testamentary memorandum hereafter to
be made by me, I give and bequeath one full and equal half part thereof unto my said brother John
Slater for his own absolute use and benefit.
And I give and bequeath the interest dividends and annual
produce of the other full and equal half part thereof unto my said sister Frances Denne and her assigns
during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease then I give and bequeath
such last mentioned full and equal half part of all my said money, money in the public stocks or funds,
securities for money and personal estate unto her daughter my said niece Frances Denne for her own
absolute use and benefit and I nominate and appoint my said brother John Slater and the said Frances
William Cobb Executors of this my last Will and Testament and hereby revoking all former wills by
me at any time heretobefore made I publish and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament. In
witness whereof I the said Mary Denne the Testatrix have to each sheet of this my last Will and
Testament in three sheets of paper contained set my hand this twenty fourth day of October in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six. Mary Denne signed published and declared by
the Testatrix Mary Denne as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at her
request and in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as
witnesses.

It is my wish that the underwritten may be considered as a codicil to my will in which I had left one
hundred pounds to my nephew John Slater (since deceased) son of my late brother Edward Slater
which sum I now desire may be paid to his mother Mrs Elizabeth Slater. Mary Denne witness
John Slater, Margate, Frances Denne Grove Hill, Upstreet
Appeared personally John Slater of Margate in the County of Kent Esquire and made oath that he is one of the subscribed witness to the codicil thereunto annexed to the last Will and Testament of Mary Denne late of Upstreet in the Parish of Chislet in the same County widow deceased the said codicil bearing date the ninth day of October 1847 and he further made oath that on the said ninth day of October 1847 the said deceased duly executed the said codicil by signing her name at the foot or end thereof in the presence of this Deponent and of Frances Denne Spinster the other witness thereto both of whom were present at the same time and this deponent and the said Frances Denne then attested and subscribed the said codicil in the presence of the said deceased and of each other. John Slater on the twenty third day of May 1853 the said John Slater was duly sworn to the ? hereof in virtue of the annexed commission Joseph Wallis Commissioner.
Proved at London with a codicil the 28th May 1853 before the Judge by the oaths of John Slater Esquire the brother and Francis William Cobb Esquire the Executors to whom administration was granted having been first sworn by commission duly to administer.
