Will of John Dyne

of Lydd, Kent

I bequeath unto Robert Dyne my brother the moiety or half part of my boat called Michael and the other moiety or half part thereof I give unto Thomas Dyne my son together with wind ropes, culls? and all other things unto the same appertaining and belonging. And also I give and bequeath unto the said Thomas Dyne my son the moiety or half part of my boat called John together with two manford of shot net and 2 manford of flewes, 2 sprat nets, one box of small hooks and the cabin standing at the Ness.

Item I give and bequeath to my brother Robert Dyne my middle cabin from Denge at the Ness.
Item I will the rest of my cabins to John Dyne, William Dyne and Adrian Dyne my sons to be divided among them and if it fortune any of them to die before they come to lawfull age without issue of their body lawfully begotten then I will the longest lived to enjoy the parts of him or them being dead.

Item I give unto the said John Dyne my son manford of float nets? one manford of shot nets and 2 sprat nets and one --d hayffes?
I give unto William Dyne my son one manford of shot net and 1 manford of flewes.
Then I will unto any one of my aforementioned sons one pair of sheets and 2 pewter plates.

Then I will unto Marion Dyne my daughter 4 pounds in money to be delivered unto her at the day of her marriage and one feather bed, a transon?, 2 pairs of sheets, a coverlet, 2 pillows, a blanket, half a dozen pewter ? and a cow.

Item I will that if it fortune any of my said sons or daughter to depart this world before they come to lawful age and without issue of their bodies lawfully begotten then I will that the longest lives shall inherit and have all and singular such bequests as if unto them or any of them in this present will given and bequeathed.

I bequeath unto John Mityn 4 s.
Item I will unto Margaret Nycolls my wife's mother 2s 8d.
Item I will to Thomas Byttes 8d.
Item I will to Bartholomew Dyne 2s.
Item I will to any godson that I have 6d.
Item I will unto John Dyne my brother 20s.
I will to Adrian Dyne son of Robert Dyne a sprat net.
I will to Robert Campany 6s 8d.
I will unto Gregory Impett 3s 4p.
I will unto John Roffe 3s 4p.

The residue of my goods not given now bequeathed my debts being paid and my legacies performed I do give them unto Alice Dyne my wife whom I make and ordain to be my sole executrix of this my present testament and last will, and I will that Robert Dyne my brother thereof shall be my supervisor to see the same duly performed and fulfilled.

And as concerning my land and tenements with appurtenances lying and being within the town and parishes of Lydd and Brookland in the said county of Kent. This is the last will of me the before mentioned John Dyne the elder made and declared the day and year first above written.

First I will that Alice my wife shall have all my said lands and tenements in Lydd and Brookland aforesaid with appurtenances for term of 18 years next immediately following after my decease and after the said term of 18 years be fully expired and ended I will all my said lands and tenements with appurtenances shall wholly remain unto my four sons before named to be divided amongst them by indifferent distribution and if it shall fortune any of my said sons to depart out of this world before they come to lawfull age and without issue of their body lawfully begotten. Then I will that the survivors shall have and inherit the parts and portions of him or them so departed to be had to him or them and to heirs of his or their bodies lawfully begotten for ever, but and if it shall fortune all my before named four sons to depart out of this world before they come unto lawfull age and without issue of their body lawfully begotten then I will that all and singular my lands and tenements with appurtenances shall remain unto Marion my daughter and unto heirs of her body lawfully begotten for ever, and for lack of such issue lawfully begotten of her body I will all my said lands and tenements with appurtenances shall remain unto my brothers Robert Dyne and John Dyne the younger to be had to them and to heirs of their bodies lawfully begotten for ever.
