In the name of God Amen The Eleaveth day of February in the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Sixe hundred and Fifie
I John Elgar of Newington next Heth in the Countie of Kent Yeoman being ill in Body Yett of Perfecte remembrance (Thankes bee to God) doe make and Ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and Forme Followinge
First I bequeath my Soule into the Mercifull handes of Almightie God hopeing through the merritts of his onely Sonne Jesus Christ my Saviour to have full remission of all my Sinnes And my body I commend to the Earth from whence it was taken to bee decentlie buried at the discretion of my Executors here after named

Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Wife Susan for Terme of her live Fowerteene Poundes per Annum to bee yssueing out of the Interest of Certaine Summes of money due unto mee upon Specialltie or otherwise Shee the said Susan payeing unto my Sonne Thomas Elgar the Sume of Fortie Shillinges yearely dureing the Terme of her naturall life;

And if itt fortune the said Thomas att the death of the said Susan to bee then liveinge; That then dureing ye life of the said Thomas, my Sonne William shall pay unto him Yearely the Summe of Seaven Poundes from and after the death of Susan my wife as aforesaid

Item I give and bequeath unto George Elgar my youngest Sonne The Sume of One hundred and Sixtie Poundes To bee paied unto him within One yeare next after my decease
Item I give unto him more Fortie poundes To bee paied unto him after the decease of Susan my Wife

Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandchild and Godchild Mary Morris The daughter of Thomas Morris The Sume of Tenne Poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto John Elgar my Grandchild and Godchild the sonne of George Elgar The Sume of Tenne Pounds after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandchild Mary Elgar the daughter of George Elgar The Sume of Five poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto the Child that my Sonne George his wife is nowe Greate withall (If itt live) the Summe of Five Poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Elgar the daughter of my Sonne William Elgar the Sume of Five poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto William Elgar my Grandchild Sonne of my sonne William the Sume of Five poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto Henry Elgar Sonne of the said William The sume of Five Poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto the Child that my Sonne William his wife is nowe bigge withall the Summe of Five Poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife
Item I give and bequeath unto John Elgar my Grandchild and Godchild The Sume of Tenn Poundes after the decease of Susan my Wife

Item further my Will and mynde is Thatt if it fortune That any of my said Grandchildren to dye before the Terme before expressed That then the Legacy of either of them so dyeinge shall come to the other of my grandchildren Surviveing equally to bee divided Amongst them

Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Morris my Sonne in Lawe Twelve pence to bee paid unto him after my decease

Nowe as touchinge the disposicon [disposition] of all my Landes and Tennements in the Parrishe of Newington aforesaid and Eleham [Elham] or else where in the said Countie of Kent I dispose of them in manner and Forme Followenge

First of that wherein I nowe dwell I give and devise unto my said Grandchild Johan Elgar with all and singuler the Appurtenances thereunto belonging, To have And to hold to the said John Elgar (after the decease of Susan my Wife) his heyres and assignes for Ever

Item I give and devise all my Landes and Tenements in Eleham aforesaid with the Appurtenances unto my Sonne William Elgar To have And to hold to the said William Elgar his heyres and assignes for Ever

Lastly I do ordaine and make my well beloved wife Susan and my said Sonne William Elgar full and whole Executors of this my last Will and Testament to see the same Proved my debts and Legacyes paied and my funerall Expences discharged

In Witness whereof I the said John Elgar have to this my present last Will and Testament sett my hand and Seale the day and yeare first above written

This Will was Proved att London before the Judges for Probate of Wills and granting Administracons lawfully authorized The twenty Sixt daye of Aprill In the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Sixe hundred and Sixtie By the Oathes of Susan Elgar the relict and William Elgar the naturall and lawfull Sonne and joint Executors named in the said Will To whom Administracon of all & Singuler the goods chells [chattels] and debts of the said deceased were Committed They being first by Commission Sworne truely to Administer the same Exd.
