In the name of God Amen, the xxjth [21st] day of Aprill in the xvijth yeare of the Raigne of our Sovraigne Ladye Elizabeth by the grace of God Quene of yngland Fraunce & Ireland, defender of the Feithe &c.
I John Fordride of Elmested in the countie of Kent, Yoman being sicke in bodie but of good and pfitt [perfect] memorie (thanks be to God) Do make and ordeyne tis my p[rese]nte Testament and last will in manner and forme following
First I bequethe my soule to allmightie God and my bodie to be buried in the churche yarde of Elmested aforesaid

Item I will my sonne Thomas shall have my Indenture leas(e), Interest, and terme of yeares unexpired of one leas(e) of the demise and gr[a]nte of John Culpeper Esquier
Item I give to Thomas my sonn my greate Brasse pott
Item I will my sonn Thomas shall have my greate brasse kettle
Item I give unto my sonn Thomas my Chuerne
Item I give unto my sonn Thomas my best Jerkin
Item I give unto my sonn Thomas a paier of sheetes and a paier of blanckettes And a transaine

Item I give unto Margarett my dawghter Five poundes to be paid at her day of mariage or at the age of twentie yeares which day doth first come
Item I give unto Margarett my dawghter my lesser Brasse pott

Item I give unto Thomas Cooke my best coate
Item I give unto Wyllyam Wyboure my frice? coate
Item I give unto Humfrye Pages children a vjd unto either of them
Item I give unto Thomas Cookes children a vjd unto either of them
Item I give unto my sonn John Fordrides children a vjd unto either of them
Item I give unto Jone Noble & Alice Noble a vjd unto either of them
Item I give unto Leonarde Spryes children a xijd
Item I give unto my goddawghter children unto either of them a iiijd

The residewe of all my moveable goodes not bequethed wthin my howse and whereowte my howse I give unto Margerye my wiffe and to hir heiers for ever

This is the last will of me the said John Fordrede made and bye me psnally [personally] declared the day and yeare above written towching the dispostion of certayne of my goods not bequethed

First I give unto Margerye my wiffe two acres and a half of wheat nowe growing upon the ground
Item I give unto Thomas Cooke half one acre of Wheate
Item I give unto Thomas Fordride my sonn eighte wethers, whome I ordeyne and make my sole Executor to see my legacies discharged and my debtes paied

Item I make Humfrye Page and Thomas Noble oversears to see this my last will & Testament fethfully p[er]formed and kepte
Item I geve unto Humfrye Page and Thomas Noble a xijd unto either of them for the[i]r paines Anye thinge to the contrarie in any wise not w[i]th standing

To this Witnesseth: Edward Goodale; Humfrye Page of Elmested; Thomas Noble of Aldington.

Probatum fuit: 30th June 1575

Notes:
John Fordred was buryed the viijth day of May [1575] at St. James the Great, Elmsted (from the original parish register).
Thomas Cooke an aged man was buried at Elmsted 28th February 1583/84.
Thomas Cooke had married an Elisabeth Fordred 29th January 1548 at Elmsted.
10th August 1574 Leonard Sprye married Jone Fordred, at St. Mary, Stelling Minnis.
