In the name of God Amen The xijth day of September in the fower and fortith yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lady Queene Elizabeth, Queen of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith etc. [1601]
I Edward Frye of Peneshurste in the Countie of Kent Yeoman being sicke in bodie but of good and perfect remembrannce, thanks be to Almightie God
I bequeath my Sowle into the mercifull handes of the Almightie God my Maker and Jesus Christ my Reademer and Saviour And my bodie to be buried in the Church yarde of Peneshurste aforesaide nere to the places where my Father was buried
Item I give unto the poore at the daie of my buriall Tenne shillings to be by my Executrix distributed

Item I give Tenne shillings by the yeare for twentie yeares out of my landes in Ashurste in the countie of Kente called Preiste feildes to the use of the poore of Peneshurste to be paide half yearelie to the handes of the Churchwardens for the time beinge to the use aforesaide And for the non paim't yt shalbe lawfull for the Churchwardens to straine and the distresse so taken to leave dryve and carrie awaie and to detaine and keepe until thair be satisfied and paide and the same to be distributed by the parsonne and churchwardens to the use of the poor aforesaide the same to beginne imediatlie after my decease

Item I give to the poore of Peneshurste twelve pence by the yeare forever out of one parcell of Medowe in the Parishe of Lighe [Leigh] next Tunbridge in the Countie of Kente adjioninge to the five Railes against Martins eylandes nowe in the occupation of Mr. James

Item I give to Marie Simes my Sister five pounds of lawfull monies to be paide by my Executors within one yeare next after my decease
Item I give to Anna Woodgate daughter of my Brother Richard Frie six poundes thirtene shillings and fower pence of lawfull monie to be paid in like manner wthin one whole yeare next after my decease
Item I give to Margerie Frie daughter of Richard Frie my brother three poundes of lawfull monie by my executor to be paide within one whole yeare next after my decease
Item I give to Avis Rose ls [50 shillings] to be paide by my executor within one whole yeare next after my decease

Item I give to Anne Frye daughter of John Frie my brother twentie shillings by the yeare during her life to be paide out of my landes in Ashurste aforesaide to be paide by equall porcons wth like clause aforesaide
Item I give to the three Children of Thomas Woodgate, Thomas, Margarett and Elizabeth six shillings eight pence apeece to be paide by my executor within one whole yeare next after my decease
Item I give to the poorer sorte of my godchildren twelve pence apeece to be paid by my executor at theire discretion

The residue of all my goodes unbequeathed my debtes leagacies and Funerall expences paide and discharged I give unto Richard Frye my brother and Edward Frie his sonne whome I ordaine and make my executors of this my laste will and Testament And I doe utterlie renownce all former will whatsoever made before by me

This is the last will and Testament of me the foresaide Edward Frie concerning my Landes and Tennemts. scituate lienge and being in the Countie of Kente

Item I give and bequeath to Richard Frie my brother all that my landes wth a barne called Chauntry landes scituate lienge and beinge in the parrishe of Tonbridge in the Countie of Kente duringe his life and after his decease to Edward Frie his sonne To have and to hold to him and his heires forever

Item I give and bequeath unto Edward Frie my brothers sonne and Thomas Woodgate my Cosen one parcell of lande in preiste woode in the parrishe of Ashurste in the Countie of Kent To have and to holde to them and their heries forever which the ladie Waler claimed

Item I give to Edward Frie my brothers sonne all the residue of my landes called Preistes feld and Preiste wood scituate lienge and beinge in the parrishe of Ashurst aforesaide to have and to hould to him and his heires forever paieng the legacy before given out of the same

Item I give to Edward Frie my brothers sonne all that my landes scituate lienge and beinge in the parrishe of Peneshurste and Liegh in the County of kente (that is to saie) one Tennement wtha barne, orchardes and gardeine wth one peece of lands lienge in Brufcrofte called Dubbleture in Peneshurste aforesaide and one meddowe called lordes meade and one other peece of land called Johns Crofte scituate lienge and beinge in the parrishe of Lighe aforesaide to have and to hold all the aforesaide landes to the aforesaide Edward and his heires forever

In witnes whereof I have sett my seale and published my name the daie and yeare above saide And I ordaine and make my trustie frendes James Beeche and Walter Woodgate the overseers of this my laste will and Testament
