In dei noie amen the xiijth daye of Julye in the yere of oure Lorde god a thowsande fyve hundred fyftye and syxe
I John Gartforde of the paryshe of Charte nexte Sutton Vallannce Do make my testament in this wyse
Firste I bequethe my sowle to allmyghtye god and my bodye to be buryed in xpian buryall wtin the churche yarde of Charte afore saide

Itm I gyve to Wyllyam Hilles my sonne in Lawe my cowe payenge to my sonne Gartforde xiijs iiijd at his daye of maryage
Itm I wyll all my pewter be devyded betwene my two Dawghters by even porcyon
Itm I give to my dawghter Margaret a tubbe of a busshell
Itm I give to her my trendle as yt standythe
Itm I give to my sonne Wyllyam Hilles my beste coate and worsted Dublet
Itm I gyve to John Tryppe my boye a Russet Jacket to make him a coate
Itm I give to Edythe Tryppe one of my wyffes kertles and my dawghter Hylles to have the other

The Resydue of all my goodes and cattalles I give and bequethe to my sonne in lawe Wyllyam Hylles whome I make myne executor
And he to paye my debtes and bequethes here in this my wyll expressed and more yf there be anye
