This is the Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Gates of Edenbridge in the County of Kent Blacksmith as follows

Whereas I have on the day of the date of this my Will taken up and borrowed at Interest the sum of One hundred pounds of and from Mrs Betty Holinden of Edenbridge aforesaid Widow on a Mortgage to her of All that my Messuage or Tenement or Cottage together with all that New End or Building lately erected and Adjoining thereunto and also all that Smith�s Shop thereunto belonging with the Garden Orchard and Appurtenances called Paynters now in the Occupation of myself and my Son in Law Charles Potter situate at the Upper End of the Town of Edenbridge aforesaid

Now I do hereby give and devise the said Messuage or Tenement New Building Smith�s Shop Garden Orchard and Appurtenances and all equity of Redemption thereupon after Payment of the Principal Money and interest which shall be due on the said Mortgage
together with all my Just Debts Funeral Expences and Probate of this my Will
unto my Daughter Hannah the Wife of the said Charles Potter her Heirs and Assigns for ever in consideration of her great care and Attendance upon me in my weak Situation

All the rest and residue of my Estates both real and personal after payment of my Just Debts after payment of my Just Debts Funeral Expences and Probate of this my Will I give devise and bequeath unto my said Daughter Hannah her Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever

And I do hereby Nominate and Appoint her my said Daughter Hannah Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament
hereby revoking all others by me at any time heretofore made
And I do declare this to be my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Gates the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in one Sheet of paper set my hand and Seal this Twenty ninth day of January in the Year of Our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Seven The Mark X of Thomas Gates
