In dei noie Amen [In the Name of God, Amen] the 13th April 1513
I Richard George of Est Sutton [East Sutton] beyng yn good mynde and hole remebrannce [remembrance] make or do to be made my testament and last Will yn this manr [manner] of forme
First I bequeith my Soule to allmyghty God and his blessed moder [mother] and lady Saynt Mary Saynt Peter and Paule And all the blessed companye of heven And my body to be buried wtin [within] the churche yard of Est Sutton

Also I bequeith to the high aultr [altar] ther iiijd [4 pence]
Also I geve my Wif Mawde all my movables and my stuff to do the church hir best

This is the last Will of me the said [Richard] George

I wull my Wif Maude have my hous and lande duryng her liff And aft(er) her deceasse to go to the churche of East Sutton upon this condicon that the wardens ther of te foresaid churche yerly at the yeres mynde cause the preste to Sey or Syng A dirage and to say iij masses
And the Residue or overplus to be distributed to thynge most nedefull yn the churche aforesaid

Also I will if that the wardens of the said churche do it not yerely then the hole parisshoners to take the hous and lande unto their custody they doyng as they shall Annswer before allmyghty God

Notes: This Will pre-dates parish registers. There are BT’s available from 1562, but parish registers themselves commence in 1648 (suggesting the early one was lost, stolen or badly damaged).
