In the name of God Amen the xxth day of October in the yeare of our Lord God [1545]
I John George of the towne and porte off Hathe [Hythe] in the Countie of Kent beinge of pfett [perfect] memory make and ordeyne this my present testament and Las will of all and singler [singular] my goods catalles [cattle] and debtes what soever and in whose handes soever they be in mannr [manner] and forme folowing (that is to wyse)
I bequeth my Soule to Jhes [Jesus] Christ my redemer and Salvioner [e.g. Salvationer = Saviour] to his blessed mother Saynt Mary and to all the holy compangnye [company] in heaven, and my bodie to be buryed in the Churche of Saynt Leonard of Hithe [Hythe]

Item I bequeith to the highe Aultar [altar] ther for recompence of tithes & oblacons [obligations] negligently and otherwise forgotten the reparacon [repair] of the said Chaspell of Saynt Leonard a xls [40 shillings]

Item I bequeith to Alexander Buklande all and singuler my howshold stuff and woodde to remayne wt hym [with him] to hw owne use forever Also I geve to the same Alexandre my space of flewes iij fare? of shotnett and two frameles with all things appteyning [appertaining] *
* These are to do with the fishing industry.
I geve moreover to the same Alexandre two mainds of small hobes and one mainde of herbewe hoth

Item I geve to my Sister Helayne the wife of ...(blank) ... Benford dwelling in the proche [parish?] of Saynt John in Brystoll [Bristol] Surgeon next unto a place called From yate tenne pounds to be paid to her if she be alyve and able to sett yt in London when she shalbe anprpoynted by myn Executors And yf it fortune that the said Helayn my Sister be not alyve to get? the said money in London as aforsaid Then I will that the said tenne pounds before unto her assigned shalbe distbud [distributed] in mannr and forme ensuyng, that is to say

I will thereof to Mayhell [Michael] Bukland Cs [100 shillings] prcl [parcel] and thother fyve pounds thereof residue I will myne Executors shall distrubte monyes (amongst) the most poore people men and women wch [which] dwelleth wtin [within] the towne of Hithe in mannr and forme folowing (that is to knowe) aparte thereof every highe Feast that shall fortune next after and Imediatly folowing my decease qurterly [quarterly] to be fulfilled in such manner distributed wtin the whole yeare next after my said decease

Item I geve to the said Mighell Bukland tenne pounds to be paid to hym as foloweth, that is to wyte, a vh thereof pcell at his aged of xviij [18] yeares, and other vh thereof when he shall come to thage of xx yeares And if it shall fortune the said Mayhell to dye before any of the said yeares of xviij or xx and that my pcell of the same tenne pounds not paid according to thintent [the intent] of this my said testament,

Then I will that so much as of the said 10h [£10] as shall remayne unpaid according to the assignement in manr and forme forsaid made shall remayn to John his brother if he be then lyvinge And if it fortune the said John to de before the tyme aforsaid then I will all the whole parte of the said John assigned shall remayne to Johan his Sister if she then be lyving and if not to her children if she have any And yf she have neither child or children Then I will yt shalbe yelded to the Chapell of Saynt Leonard of Hithe towards the reparacons of the same

Item I bequeith to Thomas Bukland and Edward Bukland my Father(s) boots wt lodge forme roope and all and other singuler suche other apparell as apptenynth [appertaineth] to the same equally between them to be used & had
Item I geve to the same Edward Bukland in money viij marks
Item I geve to the said Thomas and Edward as muche pitche tarre and bords as shall fix for the new repayrng [repairing] of the same bote [boat]

Item I do bequeith to Thomas Mynter my servant one fare of Flowes in mainde of small hobes and one fewe of shotnetts redy to go to the sea & xls [40 shillings] in money
Item I geve to Alexander Bukland tenne markes in money
Item I will to Thomas Bukland one Fare of flewes and one Fare of shotnetts [Does Fare = pair?]
Item I will to Edward Bukland one fare of Shotnetts and one fare of Flewes
Item to Thomas Bukland xls [40 shillings] in mony

Item to John Bukland my godsonne xls to be paid to hym at his age of xx yeares if he then lyve and if he dye before that age, then I will it at that said tyme to be yelded betwen bothe his Sisters by equal aporcons [proportions] to be devided

Item I bequeith to Johan and Margaret the daughters of Alexandre Bukland every of them xxvjs viijd [26 shillings and 8 pence] at the tyme of every of their marriage And yf any of them dye before marriage then I will that the onlyver [on-liver] of them both shall have the whole two partes And (if) they bothe dye before marriage then I will it holy to the reparacon of the Churche of Hithe

Item I bequeith to Thomas Bukland Alexandre Buckland and Edward Buckland all myn apparrell equally betwen them to be devided, except and reserved thereof my crymsyn [crimson] sattey doublett wch I geve to John Taylour

Item I geve to John Miller my Servant halff a fare of flewes and half a fare of shotnetts
Item I bequeith to Thomas the sonne off Alexnadre Buckland a xxs to be paid to hym at his age of xviij years if he lyve so longe and if he dye before thage of xviij yeares, then I will it to be equally devided betwen his brothers then lyving

Item I will that my Crayer* be sold by myne Executors for the best aprice wtall [with all] her takling, And of the money thereof remayng [remaining] I will to Henry Hughson fyve marks
* Crayer: A small single-masted and slow merchant vessel. Built solely for maximum hold capacity, not for its sailing qualities.

Item to John Taylour tenne marks and of the rest thereof I geve to an honest preist to singe for me in the Churche of Saynt Leonard at Hithe by the space of two yeares next ensuyng after my decease gevyinge hym tenne markes by the yeare for his salary and the rest thereof I will to be bestowed at my burying five markes at my monthesmynde [months mind] fyve marks and at my xij monthesmynd a xls

And all the residue thereof I will that my Executrs yerely in almyse to the poore people of Hithe foresaid and Saynt Bartholomews next Hithe unto the tyme that all the whole some of money that the said Crayer shalbe sold for shalbe apleniary ? bestowed

Item I geve to Margaret Hart my Servant all my Wyves apparell as well wollen as lynen [Woollen as Linen] except the worst worsted kyrtell wch I geve to Edward Buklands wif
Item I geve to Johan Vygors half a fare of flewes and half a flewe of shotnetts

The Residue of all & Singuler my goods & Catalles plate ad debts I will unto myn Exeutors to pay my said debtes and p’forme [perform] my legacies wt almesse doing as is above mencoyned [mentioned] for the doing whereof I ordeyne and depute of this my prte [present] testament and last will to be myn Executors Henry Hughson and John Taylour

Witnesses whereof Robert Mede Curat of Hithe - Thomas Johnson parish clark there and Richard Brownyne of Hith forsaid Taylor

Item I geve to Philip Comtyrst of Folkston [Folkestone] xxs

This is the Last Will of me the said John George made in the day and yere abovesaid contnying [containing] my lands and tenements wth thappetenncs [with the appurtenances]

First I will all my part of the house that I now dwell in unto Alexandre Bukland To have and to hold to hym his heyres and assignes for ever

Item I will and geve the Easthouse of my howses indioning [adjoining] together an my huts...s ? to Mighell Bukland to have and to hold to the same Mighell his heires and assignes for ever

Item I geve the West house of the same two howses together ther adioyning to Edward Bukland to have and to hold to hym his heires & assignes for ever
