In the name of God Amen the xj daye of Januarye in the yere of our Lorde God a thowsande v hundreth fyftye and syxe [1556]
I Agnes George of the pishe [parish] of Lyd [Lydd] in the countie of kente beynge sycke in body and of a good remembrannce thanks be geven unto Almyghtye God do make thys my laste wylle and testamente in manr and forme followynge [manner and form following]
Fyrste [first] I bequethe my soule unto allmyghtye God and my bodye to be buryed in the churche yade of Lyd

Item I bequethe unto the hye Aulter [high altar] for my neglegente tythes vjd [6 pence]
Item I geve unto the churche of Lydde xijd
Item I geve to the pore to be dystrybuted [distributed] at my buryenge iijs iiijd [3 shillings & 4 pence]
Item I geve unto Jone Pellane my beste gowne & one shete and a platter
Item I geve to Elyzabethe Pellane my greate kettell, one shete and a platter
Item I geve to Thomas Pellane my kettell wt aryangell and a platter
Item I gyve to Robarte Pellane my beste kettyll wt aryangell and a candellsteke [candlestick]
Item I gyve to my Syster Alys a trendyll the wch [which] she hathe all redye

Item I gyve and bequethe unto George Kyngstone hoods chyldren vjs viijd [6 shillings & 8 pence] the wch ys in my brother Johns hande
Also he hathe vjs viijd more in hys hands of myne the wch I doo gyve unto my executore
Item I gyve unto Kateryne Glover all my lynnen
Item gyve to Rychard Glover iijs iiijd [3 shillings & 4 pence]
Item I gyve unto Elyzabethe Parker xijd [12 pence]
Item I wyll also unto Elyzabethe Parker a wroghte hedbande

Item I gyve unto the pore people of Lydde vjs viijd [6 shillings & 8 pence] yf yt be possyble [possible] to be had of Robarte Knocke of Asheforde [Ashford] ye wch doth owe me a greater sume
Item I do gyve unto Jone Bate xijd
Item I gyve to Edwarde Smythe vjd

Item I gyve all the resydue of my goods my wyll beynge fulfylled & pformed [performed] unto my executor whome I make Peter Glover my mayster [Master]

Also my mynde & Wyll ys that all my goods that ys geve(n) unto my systers chyldren shalbe restored unto them at the age of xvj [16] yeres

These be the wytnesses of my testamente & laste wyll that dothe followe

Notes: Although the parish registers for All Saints, Lydd have commenced before this date (1540 for burials, 1542 for christenings and marriages), there is no record of Agnes George’s burial (however it may have been spelt). There is also no mention of Alice (Alys) or John George.
