In the name of God Amen The foure and twentieth day of Aprill Anno dini 1650
I Clement George in the County of Kent Grocer being sicke in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks by given to Almighty God therefore Doe ordaine and make my testament and last will in manner and forme following That is to say
First I give and bequeath my Soule unto Almighty God hopeing assuredly through the merritts of Christ my Saviour of pardon and remission of all my sinns And my body to be buried in decent and Christian like manner of buriall at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named
Item I will and appoint a sermon to be made at my Funerall

Item my will is that my Executors hereafter named shall bargaine and sell all my goods and chattells whatsoever towards the payment of my debts and perfourmance of this my last will and after my debts paid and discharged I will and appoint the overplus of all and singular my goods and chattells and also all such debts as are coming unto mee as soon as they can be gotten in shalbe put out for the best advantage and proffitt by my Executors And as such interrest as cann be raised thereof I will shalbe for and towards the education of all my children to be disposed of at the discretion of my executors

And such overplus of my goods and chattells and such debts as are oweing unto me after my debts discharged I will and give unto all my children when the youngest of them shall attaine unto the age of fourteene years to be equally devided amongst such of them as shalbe then living

And if in case the interrest and proffits of such overplus of mony and such debts as are oweing unto me together with the rents of my two messuages hereafter menconed will not suffice for the putting forth to prentice [apprentice] and education of my children Then I will give full power to my executors to take in soe much of the overplus mony and debts as aforesaid as they shall think fitt for an towards the putting or education of my said children or any of them

Item I will and appoint my two brothers in law Richard Harbert and Wm. Burges sole executors of this my testament and last will to whom I give tenn shillings apeece to buy them a ringe Desireing them to take upon them the charge thereof and to perfome the same

This is the last will of me the said Clement (George) made and declared the day and yeare abovesaid Touching the disposition of my two messuages or tenements with thapurtenances [the appurtenances] in Elham

Item I give and bequeath unto Lambert George my sonne my Messuage with thappurtenances wherein I now dwell to him and his heires for ever

And my Messuage or tenement with thappurtenances now in the occupation of Alexander Burnes I give and bequeath unto my sonne Clement (George) and his heires for ever

Neverthelesse my will and meaning is that Lambert my sonne and his heires shall out of the Messuage before given and bequeathed unto him pay unto Richard my sonne at his age of foure and twenty yeares the summe of tenn pounds of lawfull mony of England
And unto my daughters Ann Mary Elizabeth and Thomazine the sume of tenn pounds apeece of lawfull mony of England at their severall and respective ages of one and twenty yeares or within one month then next after

And if the said severall tenn pounds as aforesaid given and bequeathed unto my said sonne Richard and my daughters Ann Mary Elizabeth and Thomazine or any of them or any part or parcel of them or any of them shall happen to be unpaid contrary to this my will Then my will and meaning is that he or her soe being unpaid his her or their legacie of tenn pounds or any part thereof shall or may enter in and upon my said Messuage as aforesaid given and bequeathed unto my said sonne Lambert And the same to have hold and inioy untill he or shee which shall be soe unpaid shalbe fully satisfied and paid the said tenn pounds and all charges and damages thereby susteyned

Provided allwayes and my will is that my executors shall have the letting & disposeing of my Messuage with thappurtenances given unto Lambert my sonne untill my said sonne Lambert shall attaine to his age of Foure and twenty yeares And also of my said Messuages with thappurtenances given and bequeathed unto my said sonne Clement untill he shall attaine unto his age of one and twenty yeares And receive and take the rents issue and proffitts thereof untill my said sonnes Lambert and Clement shall attaine to their said severall ages for and towards the putting out to ‘prentice (sic) and education of my said children

Notes:
Clement George was buried 14th May 1650 at St. Mary the Virgin, Elham.
His wife Ann pre-deceased him and was buried there on 11th April 1645.
Clement George married Ann Clark by Licence on 24th September 1632 at St. Margaret, Canterbury. He was given as: 24, "Grosser" [Grocer] of Elham, father consents. She was 25 of Lyminge, whose parents are dead. Lambert George of Elham, “grosser”, bonds.
Their children (all christened at Elham):
16-Feb 1634 Lambert; 20-Sep 1635 Anne; 02-Apr 1637 Richard; 10-Feb 1639 Clement; 24-Jan 1641 Mary; 04-Dec 1642 Elizabeth; 15-Sep 1644 Tamazine.

Clement George (the Testator) was christened 29th January 1608, s. of Lambert George, at Elham. His siblings: 10 Apr 1599 Thomas; 12 Jul 1601 William; 13 May 1604 Mary; 5 Apr 1607 Tamsin.
Lambert George’s marriage has not been found – but he was christened at Elham on 21st December 1570 – no parents listed – possible four siblings – but as parents not given for any of them, it is supposition.

Tomsin George (born 1607), aged 20, d. of Lambert George; married Richard Harbert (mentioned in the above Will), 24, Butcher, both of Elham on 4th June 1627 at SS Peter & Paul, Temple Ewell (near Dover), Kent.
