In the name of God Amen I John George of the City of Canterbury Farrier being of sound p�fect and disposing mind memory and understanding praised by God therefore revoaking all former wills by me heretofore made doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following / That is to say /
first I recommend my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my gracious and mercifull Creator hopeing and assuredly beleeving to obtaine everlasting life through the pa�sions and meritorious death and sufferings of my blessed lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I committ to the earth to be decently interred by my Executrix hereinafter named

Item I make and ordaine my loveing Wife Jane Executrix of this my will untill my eldest sonn John George shall attaine the age of one and twenty yeares and when and soe soon as my said sonn John George shall attaine his said age of one and twenty yeares then I doe discharge my said wife of this honble [honourable] of the Executorship and make and constitute my said sonn John George Sole Executor of this my will

Item I give and devise unto my said sonn John George and to my youngest sonn Edward George all my messuages lands Tenements and Hereditaments in ye parish of Lynsted or elsewhere in the County of Kent and now in the occupacon of Mercy Ruske widow to them and their heires forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonn William George all those Messuages Tenements with the appurtenances in the parish of All Saints in the said Citty of Canterbury which I hold by lease from the Mayor of the Hospitall of Eastbridge als Kings Bridge in the said Citty

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane George the Sume of two hundred and Fifty poundes of lawfull money of England att her age of one and twenty yeares to be paid her out of my personall estate not bequeathed to any of my said three sonnes but if my daughter shall happen to departe this life before she attaine the said age of one and twenty yeares then I give and bequeath one hundred poundes p�cell [parcel] of the said porcon unto my said sonne John George and the residue of the said porcon vizt. one hundred and fifty poundes I give and bequeath unto my said two sonnes William and Edward George to bee equally devided betweene them share and share alike and if any of my said three sonnes shall happen to depart this life before he or they attaine to the age of one and twenty yeares then I give and bequeath the portion or porcons of him or them soe dyeing unto the Survivors or Survivor of them equally to be devided betweene them share or share alike

And if two of my said three sonnes shall happen to dye before they attain their respective ages of one and twenty yeares then my Will is and I doe hereby give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Jane if she be then liveing the further sum of one hundred and fifty poundes of lawfull money of England to augment her portion to be paid unto her by the said Surviveing sonn att her said age of one and twenty yeares if she soe long live and I do hereby charge all my said Messuages lands and Tenements with the payment of the said one hundred and fifty poundes unto my said Daughter in case the same cannot be raised and paid out of my personal estate

Item I give and bequeath unto my said loveing wife Jane the use of all my plate linnen and household stuffe and the use and profit of the overplus of my money and other p�sonall estate my debts legacys and Funerall expences and Probate of this my Will being paid and discharged for and during the terme of her naturall life
and imediately from and after her death then I give and bequeath the said plate linnen household stuffe and the overplus of money and other my personall estate not herein before given and bequeathed unto my said three sonns John William and Edward George to be equally devided betweene them share and share alike
except Fifty poundes thereof which I doe hereby give and bequeath unto my eldest sonn John George over and above his share and dividend of the residue of the said estate

provided allwayes and my minde and will is that in case my said Wife be married againe then if such husband or husbands as she shall soe marry with shall not within one month next after such intermarriage give sufficient Security to my eldest sonn John George if he be then living or to my other sonnes if he be dead then or to some other sufficient honest p�son in trust for them that the said plate linnen and the overplus of my estate shall not be embezilled or wasted but be fairely kept and delivered or payd to my said children as the same is before given ad bequeathed at the death of my said wife then the said legacy before given to my said wife shall cease and determine and then I give my eldest sonn power and authority to take and recover the same and dispose thereof according to my will herein before declared imediately after such intermarriage and refuseing or neglecting to five such Security as aforesaid

Whereas upon my Marriage with my said loveing Wife I did enter into a Recognizance conditioned for the true payment of the sume of Thirty pounds pannr [per annum] of lawfull money of England unto my said wife during her life att the Feasts of the Birth of our Lord Christ / the Annunciation of the blessed virgin Mary / the Nativity of St. John the Baptist and St. Michaell the Archangell by equal quarterly payments the first payment thereof to beginn att the first of the said Feasts which shall next happen after my deathe

now my will and desire is and I doe hereby order and appoint that the same shall be paid in manner following / that is to say / twelve pounds p annum to be paid by my sonn William George and the Messuages and Tenements and p�mises with the appurtences (sic) in the said p�ish of All Saints [Canterbury] as before herein given to the said William I doe hereby charge with the payment thereof quarterly to my said wife during her life by equal payments and the residue of the said thirty pounds to wich (sic) eighteene pounds p annum to be paid by my said sonnes John and Edward George equally between them And I do hereby charge the Messuages or Tenements Lands and p�mises in Linsted aforesaid given to the said John and Edward George as aforesaid with the payment of the said eighteene pounds by the yeare unto my said wife by equall quarterly payments att the feasts aforesaid

And my further will is and I doe hereby give full power and authority to my said Wife and her assignes to enter upon my said Messuages lands and Tenements and take the rents and profitts thereof untill she be paid the said twelve pounds and eighteene pounds p annum according to my will herein before declared

And I doe hereby will and desire my said loveing wife to educate and bring up all my said Children and place my said sonnes out to some honest and convenient callings fitt for them and I doe will order and appointe my said loveing wife to receive and take the profitts of my said estate reall and personall during the minority of my said Children and for placeing my sonns out apprentices and my will and meaneing is that nothing shall be deducted out of the legacys given to my said Children or any of them for or in respect of their maintnance and educacon and that if my said Wife shall be married againe then I doe will and appoint my said eldest sonn to educate and maintayne his brothers and sister and give him the profittes of my said estate for that purpose and assigne him guardian to them during their minority or untill my said wife shall happen to marry againe for the educacon of all my said children

Thus haveing settled my worldly estate I wholly recommend my selfe to God waiting with patience untill he shall please to take me out of this transitory life and translate me unto the eternall kingdome of glory

In Witnes whereof to this my last will and Testament contayned in Two Sheetes of paper I have to either of them sett my hand and seale this twentyeth day of July in the Yeare of our Lord One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight

Signed Sealed published and Declared by the said John George the Testator to be his last will and Testament in the p�sence of us whose names are subscribed who have also subscribed our hands in the p�sence of the said Testator after the Interlineing of these words �to be paid her out of my personal estate not bequeathed to any of my three sonnes�

John George, Ba., Farrier of Canterbury married Jane Preston, Widow of Faversham, on 11 Sep 1674 at Faversham. Their known children (christened All Saints, Canterbury):
12 Oct 1675 John; 13 Nov 1677 William; 15 Apr 1679 Edward; 6 Apr 1688 Jane.
John George was buried 9th September 1689 at All Saints, Canterbury. His wife Jane�s re-marriage or burial not found.

John George could be the John George christened 1639, s. of John George of Canterbury (and thus m. aged 35) �
or the son of John and Margaret George of St. Mary, Chartham � but not recorded;
or one of the Faversham George�s.
