In the Name of God Amen
I Edward George of the Parish of Hearne [Herne] in the County of Kent Yeoman being in good health of Body and of sound mind memory and understanding (God be praised for the same) but considering the uncertainty of this mortal Life do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following
First I humbly recommend my Soul unto Almighty God hoping through the Merits Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to receive forgiveness of all my Sins and to inherit everlasting Life my Body to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named And as to my Estate both real and Personal wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I dispose thereof as follows

first I give unto my loving Wife Elizabeth George during the time she shall continue my Widow and unmarried the use of whatever Furniture she chooses which shall be in my dwelling house at the time of my decease

Also I give and bequeath unto my loving Wife Elizabeth George during the time she shall continue my Widow and unmarried as aforesaid an Annuity or Yearly Sum of Fifty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my Son Edward George by four equally Quarterly Payments, that is to say, on Lady Day Midsummer Day Michaelmas Day and Christmas Day the first payment to be paid on such of the said days as shall happen next after my decease
But in case my said Wife Elizabeth George shall marry again after my decease Then and in such case I do hereby give and bequeath unto her the said Elizabeth George only One Annuity of Yearly Sum of twenty five pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my said Son Edward George in the manner hereinbefore mentioned

And it is my Mind and Will that the said Annuities of Fifty pounds or twenty five pounds to be paid as aforesaid shall be in lieu and full satisfaction to my said loving Wife Elizabeth George of all Claims and demands on my real and Personal Estate which she shall or may claim demand or be entitled to by any ways or means whatsoever

And I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto my said Son Edward George and to his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever All my real and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or quality soever the same may be at the time of my decease (subject to the payment of the said Annuities and payment of my just Debts Funeral Expences and the charges of the Probate of this my last Will and Testament

And lastly I do make ordain constitute and appoint him my said Son Edward George full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the said Edward George the Testator have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty first day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy one and in the eleventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God King of Great Britain France and Ireland Defender of the Faith and so forth

This Will was proved at London the sixth day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four before the Worshipful William Scott Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Edward George Esquire the Son of the deceased and Sole Executor named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to Administer

Notes:
Edward George was buried at St. Martin, Herne on 16th April 1784, aged 92.
Edward George was the son of Edward and Bennet George: Edward George (senior), Widower of Chartham married Bennet George, 22 of Monkton on 23rd January 1683 at St. Andrew, Canterbury, by Licence.
Edward George (senior) had previously married Elizabeth Barrett on 5th January 1679 at Chartham. He was Ba., 23., Yeoman; She was Sp., 23. Both were of Chartham. This means Edward was born circa 1656 – or right in the middle of the Commonwealth.

25-Apr 1688 Mary (christened at St. Mary, Chartham;) then all christened at St. Nicholas-at-Wade:
03-Apr 1690 Thomas (Bu: 29 Jul 1690); 02-Jul 1691 Edward; 18-Oct 1693 Thomas (Bu: 17 Oct 1698); 02-Feb 1696 James; 31-Oct 1698 Henry.

Edward George (of this Will), Ba., married Elizabeth Deane, Widow, on 25th March 1727 at St. Martin, Canterbury. Both were “of Reculver”.
Their only known children (all christened at St. Mary, Reculver):
19 Aug 1740 Edward; 6 Apr 1742 Robert (Bu: 10 Sep. 1769 as “Mr.”); 10 Apr 1744 Thomas (Bu: 3 Oct 1767).
