In the name of God Amen the Seavententh day of December anno dini 1598
I William Gibbes late of the p[ar]ish of Elmestone and now of the towne & porte of Hithe in the County of Kent gent[leman] being of whole minde and p[er]fecte remembrannce for the which I praise Allmightye God do make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following
First I bequeth my soule to the mercy of God & my bodye to be buried at such seemely & convenient place as my executor hereafter names shall thinke meete, now touching my temporall and worldly goods I will and bequeth the same in manner following

Item I give Edmund my son thirty pounds of lawfull Englishe monye
Item I give & bequethe to Henry Gibbes my sonne thirty pounds of like lawfull monye
Item I give and bequeth unto Stephen Gibbes my sonne twenty pounds of like lawfull money,
all which somes by me given I will shall be paid by mine executor out of fowerscore pounds w[hi]ch William Gibbes the sonne of my sonne John Gibbes deceased standeth bound by his bond & obligatory to be paid to my executor or assignes at such tyme as by the same bonde my executor shall receave the same, or within one moneth next after the resaite [receipt] thereof

Item I will and my minde is that all such houshold stuffe as at any time heretofore was mine & now is in the custodye of any of my said sonnes or in the possession of William Gibbes the sonne of my sonne John Gibbes that the same shalbe & remaine to there uses for ever

And all the residue of my goods & wearing apparrell my funerall performed, I give & bequeth to Stephen Gibbes my sayde sonne for ever, whome I make and ordaine to be the executor of this my prsente testament & last will

Notes: The children of William Gibbes baptised at Elmstone are: Henry 7 Dec 1558; Stephen 17 Dec 1562; John 17 Dec 1578.
