In the name of God Amen The xvjth [16th] daye of February in the yere of our Lord God one thousand fyve hundreth seaventye and eight [1578/79]
I Peter Glover of the parrishe of Goodneston(e) next Wingham in the County of Kent yoman being sick in bodye and yet of p[er]fect mynd and memory (thanks be geven to almightie God) do make and ordeyn this my last will and testament in man[ne]r and forme following
First I do geve and bequeath my self wholy into ye hands of almightie God my creator and maker and unto Jesus Christ my alone Justyfier, Savyor and Readeamer By whose most precious blood shedding myne only hope and suer trust and confidence is to be saved and my bodye to be buryed in the churcheyard of Goodneston next unto my daughter

Item I do geve and bequeath unto the Church of Goodneston aforesaid toward the reparacons there two shillings and six pence of Laufull mony of England To be paid ymedyatlie after my decease
Item I do geve and bequeath unto my wif Annes Glover halfe a seame of wheate and halfe a seame of Barly to be paid and delivred unto her by my sonne John Glover at any tyme as she shall have most need to call for the same betwene this and the xxixth daye fo september next comying
Item I do also geve and bequeath unto her during her lif naturall six bushells of wheate and four bushells of barly to be paid and delivred unto hym [her?] yerely on this mornsell? owing That is to say the four bushells of barly and the one half of the said wheate on the first daye of November next ensuing the date hereof and the other half of the said wheate To be paid and delivred unto her on the xxv [25th] daye of Marche then next following and so from tyme to tyme during her naturall lif as aforesaid to her paid & delivred unto her the like Sum and quantities of wheat and barley on the dayes and tymes above mentioned in evry of the said yeres

Item I do geve and bequeath unto my wif one cowe and all my burning wood lyeng & being in my yard at Goodneston belonging to the house where I nowe dwell wth all my p[o]ultry hennes or others whatsoever ymediatlie after my decease
Also I do geve and bequeath unto my wif a yong sowe of one quarter old to be paid and delivred unto her by my son John Glover before the xxixth daye of September next comying
Item I do also geve and bequeath unto her my querne wth the hole fornyture [furniture] thereof durying her naturall lif And after her decease the same to remayn in my house where I am nowe dwelling to the use of my son John Glovr or any other heire by myne appoyntement

Item I do geve and bequeath unto my son Rychard Glover the Sum of thirtene pounds six shillings and viijd of lawfull mony of England to be paid & delivred unto hym by my sonne John Glover when the said Rychard shall accomplishe the age of xxij yeres, twenty shillings whereof my will is that the said my son Richard shold have paid hym by his brother at any tyme before he do come to the said age if he seame in any greate neade thereof

Item I do also geve and bequeath unto my son Richard Glover one pewter platter, two pewter dishes, thre(e) pewter sawsers, six peaces [pieces] in all bearing his mark, one candlestick, a stupnet, a spyt wth a hooke and my Cubbord to be delivred unto hym by my son John Glover at the yeres aforesaid
I do also gyve and bequeath unto hym my cowe bullock of a yere old to be delivred unto hym the xxiij daie of Aprill next comying and an Ewe also to be delivred unto hym on the same day

Item the rest of my houshold stuff ungeven and unbequeathed by whos name soever it be called I do wholy geve and bequeath unto my wif Annes Glover

Item I do geve and bequeath unto my godson Peter Hamond a lambe or two shillings 7 six pence of laufull mony of England To be paid unto hym by my sonne John Glover on the xxiijti [23rd] daye of Aprill next comying

This is the last will and testament of my the said Peter Glovr as touching or concerning my house and lands together wth all and sing[u]ler thapprtenncs [the appurtenances] ther(e) unto belonging lying and being in Goodneston aforesaid where I am nowe dwelling

Item I do geve and bequeath unto my wif Annes Glover out of the farme a contyinnall [continual] annuytye or yerely Rent of ten shillings of England to be paid unto her during her lif naturall at two sevrall tymes in the yere That is to say on the xxvth daye of Marche and the xxixth daye of September by just and equall porcons and the first payment thereof to begyn the xxv daye of Marche next comying owt of my lands aforesaid

for defalt [default] of any suche payment of wch the annuytye is geven unto her by this my will either in parte or in all after the space of xiiij dayes on the wch it ought to be paid and it being laufully demaunded by the said Annes Glover my wif or her assignes at my house wher(e) I nowe dwell and she not satisfied thereof Then it shalbe laufull for her or her assignes into my said house or land to entr and distreyn and the distresses there(e) so taken To lead, dryve and carye awaye and the same to Retayn, wthhold amd kepe when and as often as nede shall require, untill they or any of them be thereof fully satisfied, contented & paid

Item I do geve and bequeath unto her a hempe land in south close for the sowing of half a bushell of hempe seade [seed] during her lif naturall wth free egresse and regresse ther(e) when she will and pasturage for her cowe untill the xxixth daye of September next and ymediatlie ensuing the date hereof
Item I do geve and bequeath unto my wif Annes Glover her dwelling in the chambr of the west end of the house where I nowe dwell during her lif naturall wth free egresse and regresse therunto at all tymes as also to the fire Roome and well so long as she lyveth sole and unmarryed

Item my giftes and bequeathes being accomplyshed and fulfilled I do geve and bequeath my house and lands together wth all and singler thapprtenncs lying and being in Goodneston aforsaid unto my son John Glover for his lyves tyme And after his decease unto his eldest Issue heire male of his bodye laufully begotten and his heyres for ever

For want & defalt of suche yssue in his eldest I do geve and bequeath the same fully and wholy altogether unto the next chyld of last of his laufull issues herie male and ther heires for ever
So that my will is the first son of John Glover deceasing wthout laufull issue that same my house and lands shall descend and go unto his next son and his laufull issue heire male And for want and defalt thereof unto his third or last issue heire male alwayes Provided that the eldest and ther heires shall have the contynance [continuance] ther(e) in so long as ther(e) is any suche laufull issue of hym or them Remayning to enherit the same

for want and defalt thereof my will is and it is my very mynd, meaning and entent that the same my house and lands togethr wth all and singler thapprtenncs as aforsaid and under the Condicons before expressed shall all together fully and wholy descend and go unto my son Richard Glover and his next child or last issue heires male of his body laufully begotten for ever as aforsaid to my son John Glover

for want and defalte of whiche suche his laufull issue heire male my will is and it is my very mynd, meaning & intent that the house and lands abovesaid together wth all and singler thapprtenncs shall fully and wholy descend and go unto the daughters of John Glovr and Richard Glovr my two sons and ther heieres for ever

Provided alwayes that if my house and lands aforsaid do descend unto any the sonnes of Ricd Glovr then the same shall paye unto John Glovers daughter the eldest then lyving the full Sum of thirtene pounds six shillings and viijd of laufull mony of England at one whole entyre payment to the use of her self and her sisters to be devyded among them by just and equall portion(s) And this payment in this sorte to be so made and paid ymediatlie after the same his entrance into or upon any of the lands and house aforsaid or any parte or p[ar]cell thereof
For want and defalte of the wch payment in parte or in all It shall and may be laufull for that same daughter of my son John Glover to entr and distreyn on my lands in any parte or pcell thereof eyther by her self or her assignes as aforsaid unto my wif

As touching all the rest of my goods movable and unmovables by what name soever it be called, Cattle, corne on the grounde or in the Barne, Carte, plowe or whatsoever I do altogether fully and wholy geve unto my sonne John Glover excepting this my giftes and legacies hereabove mentioned And also my debts and funerall expences to be by hym fully satisfied contented & paid

Item I do make and ordeyn John Glovr my son to be my executor charging hym as he will answere before God to see this my will accomplyshed & fulfilled
Also I do make and ordeyn William Heneker of Goodneston ov[e]rseer unto this my will unto whome for his paynes I do geve and bequeath thre(e) shillings and iiijd
