In the name of God Amen the Last daie of August in the fower & thirteith of the raigne of o[u]r Sovraigne Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God Queene of Ingland Fraunce & Ireland and defender of the faith &c. AO dini 1592
I John Graunte of the p[ar]ishe of St. Peetrs in the Isle of Thanett in the county of Kent Fisherman being sick in body but of pefecte minde & remembrannce (thanks be to God therfore), doe ordayne & make this my testament & Last will in man[ne]r & forme following, that is to say
First I comitt my soule unto Allmightie God my creator & redeemr & my body to be buried in the church yarde of St. Peetrs abovsaid at the discretion of my executor heereundr named

Item I will & bequeath to Robert my sonn the som of five pounds of good & Lawfull money of Ingland And also one dole of shotnett & halfe a diole of herring netts as they shalbe at the time of my death or ells Twentye sixe shillings eyght pence of Lawfull money of England at the charge & Election off Allice my wife & wch saifd fyve pounds to be paid to the said Robert wthin three yers next after my decease & the said netts or xxvjs viiijd to be delivered or paid to the said Robert my sonn or to his assignes at his next coming home into England

Item I geve and bequeath unto John my sonn my p[ar]te being the on(e) halfe of the new Hoye buylt in p[ar]tnershipp w[i]th Willm Kinge called the Richard & John wthall the tacklinges & necessaryes unto her belonginge & also on(e) dole of Shottnetts & halfe a dole of herring netts sea boundres? imediatly after my decease

And I will that the said John my sonn shall pay unto the said Allice my wife the yerly som of twenty shillings during the tearme of Tenn yeares nexte after my decease to be paid and to the said Allice my wife at the Feaste of St. Michhael tharchangell [the Archangel] & thannuncacon [The Annunciation] of o[u]r Lady by even portions the first paiment thereof to begin at the first of the feasts aforesaid w[hi]ch shall next happen aftr my decease, & by no(n) payment of the same that yt shalbe Lawfull for the said Allice or her assignes to distraine in the said hoye

Item I will & bequeath unto Symon my sonn the som of fyve pounds of good & Lawfull money of Ingland to be payd to the said Symon or his assignes at his age of eighteene yeares yf he lyeve so longe,
And yf yt shall happen that any of my said sonns Robert John or Symon to depart this life before they shall com(e) to receave theire severall portions above to them Lymited & bequeathed then I will the Survivor or Survivors of him or them to be heire or heires of his or their pte or pts so dep[ar]ted

Item I will & bequeath to Margarett my doughtr the som of fyve pounds of good & Lawfull money of Ingland to be paid to the said Margarett at her age of eighteene yeares or her day of Mariage wch shall first happen
Item I will unto my daughters Sybill, Willmen, Mary and Allice to either of them the some of five pounds of good & Lawfull money of Ingland whereof Tenn pounds to be paid to the said Sybbill & Willmen wthin two yeares next after my decease & thother Tenn pounds to be paid to the said Marye & Allyce at theire severall ages of eighteene yeares or theire sevrall dayes of mariadge wch shall first happen
And yf it shall happen either of my said five daughters to depte this lif before they shall com(e) to receave theire portions (as above Lymited), then the Survivor or Survivors of her or them then Lyving to be heire or heires to her or them so dep[ar]ted

The residue of all my goods, moveable & Immovable before not bequeathed my deabts & Legacies being paid and this my Will being in all pts thereby p[er]formed & my children being well brought upp allowing to them all things needfull, I wholy geve & bequeathe to the said Allyce my wife, wch said Allyce I mak(e) & ordayne my Executrix of this my Last will & testam[en]t
and Robert Wastel & Richard Norwood ovrseers of the same And I will to either of them for theire paynes to be taken five shillings

These being wittnesses:
Robert Marshe by his marke; Richard Norwood; Silvester Terryt by his marke; Richard Culmer sejr

This is the Last will & testament of the said John Graunte made the day & yeare abovesaid of & upp(on) the disposicon of all my Lands & tenements scituate Lying & being in the said pishe of St. Peeters

Item I will & bequeathe unto Allyce my wif all that my Ten[emen]te scituate & being at Fayre Streate in the said pishe of St. Peetrs wthall the howses edifices buyldings & Lands courts yards & gardens to the same tenet now belonging and appertayning wth thappurtenanncs to be had to the same Allyce & her assignes from & after the feast of St. Michaell tharkangell next ensuing & fully to be complete & ended the same Allice keepinge the reparacons & inclosures of the said Tenet. & lands and paying the Lords rent dew for the same,

And also yelding & paing for & in respect of the said Tenets & Lands unto the said Leonard my sonn from and afte(r) the same Leonard shall accomplishe his age of eighteene years, the yerly som of Thirtie shillings of good & Lawfull money of Ingland to be paid to the said Leonard or to his assignes at the feasts of St. Michhael tharchangell & thannuncacon of or Lady by even portions for & untill the full end & tearme of sixteene yeares yf the said Leonard so longe laste

And from & after the end & tearme of the said sixteene yeares I will & bequeath all & singuler the said Tente & Lands wthall the howses Courts yards & gardebs unto the same belonging & adjoyning wth thappurtenncs shall wholy remayne & com unto my said two sonns Leonard & Silvester to be had to the same Leonard & Silvester to the use of the same Leonard & Silvester theire heires and assignes for ever indifferently to be pted and divided betweene them
Provided allwayes th[a]t yf yt shall happen the said Allyce my wife to dep[ar]t this lyf before thend of the said sixteene yeares then I will the said tenet & Lands wth thappurtenncs imediatly from & after the decease of the same Allyce my wif shall remayne & com(e) to the said Leonard & Silvester In forme as above written

In Witnes whereof I the said John Graunte hereunto have sett my mark & seale dated the daie & yeare first above written

Note: John Grant was buried at St. Peter, Isle of Thanet, Kent on 6th September 1592.
