John Groombridge will June 28, 1714
John Groombridge of Thurnham in the county of Kent yeoman being in perfect health and memory I thank God for it too make this my last will and testament in manner and form following revoking all other wills to be void and of none effect.
First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in Christian like manner at the discretion of my executor not doubting but at the day of Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God as touching my worldly goods wherin it has pleased God to bless me

I give and bequeath unto John Bodkin, my grandson the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England
and all the tools in my shop belonging to the trade of a blacksmith and all the stock that shall be found in the shop except what shall belong to husbandry

and in like manner I give and bequeath to my granddaughter, Mary Groombridge the sum of 20 pounds of good lawful money of England to be paid by my executor within 6 months after my decease.

Lastly I give unto my son Charles Groombridge after the death of my dear and well beloved wife ... and lastly I make my wife my only executor if living at my death.
If dead before me the my son Charles Groombridge to be executor in her stead to pay my debts and legacies
