In the name of God Amen the seconde daye of Julye in the yeer of o[u]r Lorde God a thowsand Fyve hundrethe fyftye Seaven and in the iiijth and vth yeer of the Reigne of oure Soveraigne Lorde and Ladye Phillip and Marye, etc.
I Thomas Atcheker other wyse cauled Thomas Harflett doe make and ordaine thys my last will and testament in manner and Forme followinge (that ys to say)
Fyrste I carry my Soule into the infynyte mercye of oure Lorde Jho Chryste by whose passhon glorious resurrection and onlye intercessyon unto God the Father Allmightye I truste to be saved
And my bodye to be buryed in the churche yarde of Ashe on the Northe syde wher my father Lyethe
And I will that the tombe stone ther be layde on my father withe scripture of hys name mencyoninge the daye of hys deathe and wtout [without] pycture And lyke wisse I will that another tombe stone be bought and Layd over me with scrpture mencioninge my name and the daye of my deathe

And I will that at everye of the dayes of my buryall months mynde and twelve months mynde, that the poore people of the sayde p[ar]yshe shall have at everye of the sayde dayes xls [40s] And I will that everye yeer after my discease by the space of vij yeers one quarter of wheat and one quarter of malte shalbe distributed to the poore people within the sayde pyshe of Ashe wher moste nede shalbe

And I gyve to my cosen Thomas Paramorre x Ewes to be payd and delyvered unto hym within one yeer next after my discease
And I gyve to Thomas Paramorre my godsonne v Ewes to be delyvered unto hym when he shall come to the aged of xxj yeers
And I gyve to everye of my godchyldren one ewe to be delyvered to them within one yeer after my discease
And I gyve to everye one of my sonnes Sarvanntes xs

And the Resydew of all my goodes and cattalles my dettes and legacyes contented and payd I will and gyve to Christopher my sonne payenge to my wyffe every yeer after my discease by the space of iiij yeers twentye poundes and to eithr of my daughters Susan and Bennett one hundrethe markes when eyther of them shall accomplyshe thage [the age] of xxj yeers or ells at either of their maryage and that at eyther of their ellections and chayse

And I make and name Christopher Harflett my sonne my executor
And I make and ordaine Wyllyam Gybbs of Elmestone gentleman and John Broke of Ashe my ov[e]rseers whome I gyve Fortye shillinges

And also I gyve unto the sayd Christopher my sonne that my lease, interests and tytle that I have or in tyme to come maye have of and in the manner [manor] of Flete next Sandwiche beinge of thenhyerytennce [the inheritance] of therle [the Earl] of Oxenforde to be had to the sayde Chrystopher and to hys assigns accordinge to the lease to me and to others made

And concerninge the disposicions of all my Landes and tentes sett, lyenge and beinge in Ashe aforesayde, Sandwiche, Woodnisborowghe [Woodnesborough] and Staple in the County of Kent I make and ordaine thys my Last will and testame[n]t in manner and Forme followinge (that ys to saye)

Fyrst I gyve to the sayde Christopher my sonne my mesuage of Moland and all landes and tentes to the sayde mesuage appertayninge, or belonginge, sett, lyenge, and beinge in Ashe aforesayde except one pece of Lande Lyeng at Whytstone

And I gyve to the sayde Christopher all those Landes latelye purchased by my father Raymonde Harflett of Jerome Aldye
And those Landes and tenementes which I severallye at sondrye [sundry] tymes bought of Wyllyam Quylter, Wyllyam Safferey, Robert Southenson, Rychard Mayhew, Wyllyam Gybbes gents, and of Wyllyam Biggs Esquyer deceased in Ashe aforesayde
And the landes and rents purchased of Adam Albye gent. in Ashe and Woodnesborowghe aforesayd
And all those Landes and tenementes Late cauled Obetland of Ser John Sannders otherwyse cauled drover whiche I lately purchased of Wyllyam Hylde gent. and Hewghe Cartewrighte gent.

And the same principall mesuage and nyne peces of Land contayninge in the [w]hole by estymation xiiij acr[es] of Lande severallye, sett Lyenge and beinge in Ashe aforesayde w[hi]ch late dyd appertaine to the Late Chantrye of oure Ladye in Ashe aforesayde and which I Late purchased of Rycharde Nonninges? and Thomas Watton Esquyres excepte one Rode of Lande Lyenge at Well betwene the Lande late Olyver Wrothe gentilman
And also I will and gyve to the sayde Christopher that same one pece of Lande contayninge by estimacion three acres of Lands Lyenge wt Grenedrove in warfeld which I withe John Gason and Stephen Hongham emonges [amongst] other Landes and tentes recyntlye purchased of Sr. Thomas Wrothe Knyght
And also I geve to the saide Christopher one pece of Lande conteyninge by estimacon one acre and halfe one acre lyeng at a place cauled Cockinge in Ashe aforesaid wiche late did app[er]tain to the chapple of overlande

And I gyve to the sayde Chrystopher my sonne the same my howse Landes and ten[emen]ts sett lyeng and beinge at Ashe Streate in Ashe aforesayde Whiche Johen Harflett Wyddow deceased lately helde for terme of her Lyffe
And alsoe I will and gyve unto the sayde Christopher my sonne the same one close of Lande contayning by estymacion iij acres of Lande purchased of John Gason gentilman lyenge and beinge in Ashe Afresayde
And also I gyve to the sayde Christopher my sonne the same one pece of lande lyenge in overlande felde contayning by estymacion halfe one acre And another pece of Lande lyenge besydes the three bredgis [bridges] contayninge iiij acres thre rods and xviij pchs [perches] of Lande in Ashe aforesayde whiche I lately purchased of Olyver Wrothe gent
To have and to holde the sayde mesuage, howse, landes, tentes, rents, and all other the premisses before gyven to the sayde Christopher and to his heires males of hys boddye laufully begotten

And for lacke of suche yssue I will that the said mesuage, landes and tenementes and other the premisses willed to the sayde Christopher shall remayne to Wyllyam my sonne and to the heires males of hys boddye Lawfully begotten
And for lacke of suche yssue I will that the said mesuage, landes and tentes and other the premisses to John my sonne And to the heires males of hys boddye Lawfully begotten
And for lacke of suche yssue I will that the said mesuage, landes and tentes and other the premisses to Vincent my sonne And to the heires males of hys boddye Lawfully begotten
And for lacke of suche yssue I will that the said mesuage, landes and tentes and other the premisses to Edwarde my sonne And to the heires males of hys boddye Lawfully begotten
And for lacke of suche yssue I will that the said mesuage, landes and tentes and other the premisses to George my sonne And to the heires males of hys boddye Lawfully begotten
And for lacke of suche yssue I will that the said mesuage, landes and tentes and other the premisses to Henry my sonne And to the heires males of hys boddye Lawfully begotten

And I gyve to Willyam Harflett my sonne my mesuage sett at Oche? and all those Landes and tentes. to the sayde mesuage belonginge or appertayninge whiche I purchased of Syr Thomas Rotheram knyght sett, lyeng, and beingein Ashe and Woodnesbrowgh aforesayds to be had to the sayde Willyam and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Willyam I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Christopher my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Christopher I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Vincen my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Vincent I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Edwarde my sonne and to hys heires for ever

And I will that the sayde John my sonne shall have the same my mesuage sett at Chapmans And all those landes and tentes to the sayde mesuage apptaynine or belonginge sett, lyenge, and being, in Ashe aforesayde Whiche I purchased of Rychard Monnyngs and Thomas Watton Esquyers to be had and holden to the sayde John and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde John I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Christopher my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Christopher I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Wyllyam my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Wyllyam I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Vincent my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Vincent I will the said mesuage, landes and tentes. to Edwarde my sonne and to hys heires for ever

And I will that the sayde Vincent my sonne shalle have the same my mesuage sett at Well And all thos(e) my Landes and tentes. late purchased of Thomas Powte and John Powte deceased and Willyam Powte, And also I gyve to the sayde Vincent that same one pece of Lande contayninge by estimacion iij acres of Lande which I Lately purchased of the foresayde John Broke
And also I gyve to the sayde Vincent the same one pece of pasture contayning by estymacion v acres of pasture, sett besydes Well aforesayde in Ashe aforesayde whiche I lately purchased of Rycharde Turnour
And I gyve to the sayde Vincent the same ij or iij peces of Brokeland lyenge nere unto the sayde mesuage bytwene the waye and the water course ther(e) contayninge vij roddes of Landes wherof one pece contaynethe one acre and halfe; And the other pece contaynethe one Rodd of Lande whiche I latelye purchased of Olyver Wrothe gent(leman)
And also I will to the sayde Vincent the same one pece of pasture lyenge on the West syde of the sayde watercourse whiche I lately had in exchange of Rycharde Omer to be had and holden to the sayde Vyncent and to his heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Vincent I will the sayde mesuage, Landes, and tentes. to the sayde Christopher my sonne and to his heires for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde Christopher I will the sayde mesuage, Landes, and tentes. to the sayde Wyllyam my sonne and to his heires for ever

And I will that the sayde Edwarde my sonne shall have that same mesuage sett at Well aforesayde And all those Landes and tentes to the same mesuage apptayninge whiche I latelye purchased of Olyver Wrothe gent except the sayde Landes before gyven and assigned And except one pece of mershe [marsh] solde to Thomas Hamon gent whiche mershe I will the sayde Thomas Hamon shalle have to hym and to hys heires for ever
And I will that the sayde Edwarde shall have one rode [rod] of Lande Lyenge at Well betwene the sayde Lands in Ashe aforesayde wch late dyd apptaine to the Late Channtrye of owre Ladye in Ashe aforesayde And wch I Late purchased of Rycharde Monnynges and Thomas Watton Squyres And I will to the sayde Edwarde the same pece of erable [arable] Lande contayninge by estymacion one acre and a halfe lyenge on the Northe syde of the waye Ledinge to the sayde mesuage whiche I late had by exchange of thaforesayde Rycharde Omer to be had and holden to the sayde Edwarde and to hys heires for ever

And I will to the sayde George my sonne my howse sett in the p[ar]ishe of Saint Peter in Sandwiche agaynst the conduyt [conduit] in the fyshmarket ther(e) and one lyttle garden at nlotessole? in Sandwiche aforesayde And that same one tenement set at Oche aforesayde and the Landes and tentes. to the sayde tente. or mesuage appertayninge in Ashe and Woodnesbrowghe aforesayde wch I lately purchased of John Broke of Ashe aforesayde
And also that same mershes contayninge by estymacon xx acres in Woodnesbroughe aforesayde whiche the sayd Raymonde Harflett my father purchased Edward Oxenden gent deceased to be had and holden to the sayde George And to hys heyres for ever
And for lacke of yssue of the sayde George I will the sayde mesuage, howses, garden, Landes, and tentes. to Christopher my sonne and to hys heyres for ever

Provided alwayes that my will and mynde ys that my sayde sonne Christopher shall have the order, rule and custodye as well of hys brethern of the [w]hole blude as of all the sayde mesuages, landes and tentes. to the sayde Wyllyam, John, Vyncent, Edwarde, and George my sonnes gyven
And the same to demyse and to aferme Lett and the yssues Revenues and pffyttes [profits] thereof yerly to take, and receive untyll everye of the same Wm., John, Vincent, Edwarde and George shall come to their severall ages of xxjti [21] yeers
And wt the sayde yssues, Revenewes and pffytts aswel to kepe the reparacons of the saide mesuages, Landes and tentes. Hosts ? fynde the sayd Wyllyam, John, Vincent, Edward and George to scole [school] or to occupacyons
And the overplus thereof remayninge I will shalbe payde to everye of my sayde sonnes for the purcon [portion] to hym willed as everye of them shalle accomplyshe their severall agis of xxj yeers

And of nethermore I will and gyve to my sayde sonne Henrye all those Landes and tentes. Lyeng and being in Ashe aforesayde and Staple wch I Latelye purchased of Rychard Covert Squyre to be had and holden to the sayde Henrye and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of ysuue of the sayde Henrye I will the sayde Landes and tentes. to Chrystopher my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of ysuue of the sayde Christopher I will the sayde Landes and tentes. to Willm. my sonne and to hys heires for ever
And for lacke of ysuue of the sayde Willyem I will the sayde Landes and tentes. to John my sonne and to hys heires for ever

And I will that my wyffe shall have the auth? parte of my howsholde stuffe and my chyldren to have the rest indifferentlye bitwene them to be shyfted and devyded by my sayde overseers or one of them and bylkes? therof made withe the pryce of everye thinge And after that so doone and made the partys and porrions [parts and portions] of my sayde chyldren to remayne in the custodye of my sayde Executor
And by hym to be delyvered to my sayde chyldren as they or anye of them shall come to their severall ages of xxjti yeers or at the daye of marriage or the trwe pryce therof, as well whiche price or howsholde stuffe as the age or marryage to be at thecellation of hym or them to whome suche howsholden stuffe or pryce therof shalbe due

And I will that my Wyffe shalle have vj kyen [cows] the best she can chewse
And I will that my Wyffe shall have xxxs yerly for terme of her lyffe out of all my Lands and tentes. to my sayde sonne John gyven to be payd to her at the feastes of thannunciaion of oure Ladye and Sainte Mighell tharchangle by even porcions
And I will that she shalle have xxxs yerlye for terme of her lyffe out of all the Landes and tenementes to my sayde sonne Wyllyam gyven to be paid to her at the sayde feastes by even porcons

An for lacke of payment yt shalbe Lawfull for her to distrayne in either of the Lands of the sayde Wyllyam and John for the sayde several somes of xxxs wherewt they be severally charged And the distresses so severallye taken yt shalbe Lawfull for her to impound and the same to detaine untyll she be thereof fowrthe withe tharreragis [the arrearages] yf any shalbe by either of them severally as they be charged fulllye satisfyed contentyd and payde

And further I will yf any imbyginyte [ambiguity], question or doubt happen to cayse, or be founde of in or uppon this my Last Will and testament that the same imbyginyte, questyon or doubt shalbe amended, refourmed and ordered accordinge to the order and judgment of Wyllyam Payne of Cantterburye, gent
And I will that the sayde order and judgment so by the sayde Wyllia Payne to be made shalbe as good and effecionall in the Lawe to all intentes constructions and purposes nothinge I had specially written, made, and declared the same in thys my pr[e]sent Last will and testament to the contrarye not wthstandinge to the wch Willm Paine for suche order by hym to be made I gyve xls [40s]

Thomas Harflete was buried at St. Nicholas, Ash on 4th April 1559.
The manor of Fleet next Sandwich is mention in Edward Hasted’s History and Topography ... of the County of Kent, thus:
... the Manor (was) carried by Anne de Sandwich to the family of Septvans, alias Harflete, alias Atchequer (and was repurchased by Harfleet).
